Thistledown Racino continues its schedule of thoroughbred racing with an eight-race card of allowance and claiming races Tuesday, July 7, 2020.

The forecast for North Randall, Ohio, on Tuesday calls for scattered thunderstorms, with temps around 90 degrees and mild winds at five mph.

I cover the three richest races here, but you can always find the complete list of Thistledown Racino’s races, including entries, jockeys, and wagering options, at our leading horse racing betting sites.

My Thistledown Racino picks and betting tips for Tuesday are below. Post time for the first race today is 12:50 PM (EDT).

  • Post Time: 2:20 PM
  • Purse: $15,000
  • Distance: 5-1/2 furlongs
  • Conditions: For Three Year Olds And Upward Which Have Started For A Claiming Price Of $5,000 Or Less In 2019 – 2020 Or Claiming Price $8,000

Race 4 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Shadow Tracer, T D Houghton, 5/2
  • 2 Johnny U, A Santos, 3/1
  • 3 Lock On, H Berrios, 8/1
  • 4 Small Town Hero, L R Rivera, 7/2
  • 5 Ohio Player, C P Pilares, 6/1
  • 6 Bowman, E Barbaran, 10/1
  • 7 Springmeier, J A Bracho, 6/1

Race 4 Prediction and Pick

I think at 8/1, Lock On, with veteran jockey Hector Berrios in the irons, is a surprise upset in this race. With 15 money finishes out of 29 career starts—eight of them wins—this five-year-old gelding has the best record in this field.

Race 4 Tip

Bet the 10/1 Bowman, with Eric Barbaran aboard, to show. This four-year-old gelding moneyed in 12 of his 21 career starts, winning four of them.

  • Lock On

  • Post Time: 3:20 PM
  • Purse: $15,000
  • Distance: 1 mile
  • Conditions: For Three Year Olds And Upward Which Have Started For A Claiming Price Of $5,000 Or Less In 2019 – 2020 Or Claiming Price $8,000

Race 6 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Eskendulce, L R Rivera, 5/2
  • 1A Double the Laugh, R Mejias, 5/2
  • 2 My Cowboy, R Feliciano, 7/2
  • 3 King Valero, SCRATCHED
  • 4 Make the Rules, SCRATCHED
  • 5 Last Drop of Wine, SCRATCHED
  • 6 Viski Jones, E Barbaran, 10/1
  • 7 Wickets Way, L Machado, 3/1

Coupled Entries – 1 – Eskendulce, 1A – Double the Laugh

Race 6 Prediction and Pick

The 5/2 moneyline favorites—the two coupled entries, that is—are both outstanding in this field in terms of stats. Both have moneyed in roughly two-thirds of their career starts and won about 30% of them. Ranking them both, you have Eskendulce, with Luis Rivera aboard, with a slight edge over Double the Laugh, ridden by Ricardo Mejias.

Race 6 Tip

At 10/1, a good show bet would be Viski Jones, ridden by veteran jockey Eric Barbaran. This seven-year-old gelding finished in the money 22 of his 35 career starts, winning five of them. He may not know how to win, but he sure knows how to get paid.

  • Eskendulce/Double the Laugh

  • Post Time: 3:50 PM
  • Purse: $21,500
  • Distance: 6 furlongs
  • Conditions: For Three Year Olds And Upward Which Have Never Won Two Races

Race 7 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Watch Your Step, F Salazar Becerra, 10/1
  • 1A Classic Butch, F Salazar Becerra, 10/1
  • 2 Homers Magic, A Santos, 8/1
  • 3 Attuck, L A Gonzalez, 6/1
  • 4 Muy Caro, L Machado, 5/1
  • 5 Tiz Smart, D J Haldar, 12/1
  • 6 God’s Will Be Done, H L Rosario, Jr., 15/1
  • 7 Arba, A Bracho, 3/1
  • 8 Tio Perico, Y L Correa, 4/1
  • 9 Mine’s Dialed In, C P Pilares, 20/1
  • 10 Uncle Bud, E Barbaran, 6/1

Coupled Entries – 1 – Watch Your Step, 1A – Classic Butch

Race 7 Prediction and Pick

I like the second-favored (4/1) entry in this race—Tio Perico, ridden by apprentice jockey Yarmarie Correa. Plenty of reasons why: This three-year-old colt has a better record than the favorite, with five money finishes out of ten career runs. And Correa has a solid wins/WPS record for someone at her career level. And let’s not forget those sweet, sweet weight allowances that have Tio Perico carrying at least 10 pounds less than the rest of the field.

Race 7 Tip

An actual viable 20/1 longshot! Still, Mine’s Dialed In is worth only a show bet against this field, despite veteran jockey Christian Pilares. This four-year-old colt moneyed two of his four career starts.
