Tampa Bay Downs Picks for Monday, June 1, 2020 – Free Horse Racing Betting Tips

Thoroughbred racing at Tampa Bay Downs continues with an afternoon of eight mostly maiden and claiming races for Monday, June 1, 2020.

The forecast for Tampa Bay for Monday calls for scattered thunderstorms with a 50% chance of rain, highs in the upper 80s, and winds around 15 mph.

I cover the three richest races here, but remember that you can always find Tampa Bay Downs’ entire list of races at our recommended horse racing betting sites.

Post time for the first race at Tampa Bay Downs on Monday is 12:50 PM (EDT). Let’s take a look at my predictions and tips.

  • Post Time: 1:20 PM
  • Purse: $15,000
  • Type: CLAIMING
  • Distance: 1 mile (turf)
  • For Fillies And Mares Three Years Old And Upward Which Have Never Won Two Races. If deemed inadvisable by management to run this race over the turf course, it will be run on the main track at One Mile and Forty Yards.

Race 2 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Bramble Berry, J C Ferrer, 4/1
  • 2 Toolcat, H Villa-Gomez, 8/1
  • 3 Feets of Feather, A Santos, 15/1
  • 4 Shikaka, R Mena, 2/1
  • 5 Baci, D Centeno, 7/2
  • 6 Charging Renee, A Suarez, 6/1
  • 7 Bareback Fun, K Mendez, 15/1
  • 8 Adios, J L Rivera, Jr., 6/1

Race 2 Prediction and Pick

The second-favored (7/2) thoroughbred in this race is my choice here: Baci, ridden by Daniel Centeno. This four-year-old filly has a good (but not great) record of seven career starts, three finishes in the money—one of those a win. The secret here is her pilot—Centeno is the winningest jockey in this race, and that will make the difference.

Race 2 Tip

A show ticket could pay dividends on the 15/1 Feets of a Feather, with Ademar Santos in the irons. This filly has moneyed in five of her 11 career starts, one of those being a win.

  • Baci

  • Post Time: 2:20 PM
  • Purse: $12,500
  • Distance: 1 mile (turf)
  • For Maidens, Three Years Old And Upward. If deemed inadvisable by management to run this race over the turf course, it will be run on the main track at One Mile and Forty Yards.

Race 4 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Analyzeyourvision, W A Garcia, 9/2
  • 2 Capture the Ride, A A Gallardo, 4/1
  • 3 Graycapade, SCRATCHED
  • 4 Go Aba Go, T B Mejia, 20/1
  • 5 Papa’s Place, S Spieth, 7/2
  • 6 Recliner, J A Garcia, 30/1
  • 7 Swift Kid, J A Batista, 10/1
  • 8 Cark, R Mena, 5/2
  • 9 Bee by the Sea, A Santos, 8/1
  • 10 Handsome Coyote, J R Herrera, 20/1

Race 4 Prediction and Pick

I think the third-favored (4/1) horse in this maiden race—Capture the Ride, piloted by Antonio Gallardo—is the one to bet on. Five career starts for this four-year-old gelding results in two money finishes—a solid record in this field. And Gallardo is the top jockey in this race.

Race 4 Tip

I don’t see anything else impressive enough to risk two bucks on in this race—not even to show. If you still feel the need to bet on a longshot, just don’t put anything down on Recliner (30/1). This horse finished in the money three times in his 27 career starts. Frankly, I think jockey Jose Angel Garcia lost a bet.

  • Capture the Ride

  • Post Time: 4:25 PM
  • Purse: $20,000
  • Distance: 1-1/16 miles (turf)
  • For Maidens, Three Years Old And Upward.

Race 8 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Astroturf, SCRATCHED
  • 2 Economic Policy, A A Gallardo, 5/2
  • 3 Quid, SCRATCHED
  • 4 In Honor of Artie, J A Garcia, 30/1
  • 5 Juror, A Suarez, 7/2
  • 6 Holy Cross, G Wales, 30/1
  • 7 Saucy Derek, S Spieth, 15/1
  • 8 Felix the Fox, H Villa-Gomez, 9/2
  • 9 Spice Road, SCRATCHED
  • 10 My Chitu, R Mena, 20/1

Race 8 Prediction and Pick

This will probably be one of the tightest matches of the day, but I’m sticking with the 5/2 favorite, Economic Policy, with Antonio Gallardo in the irons. As with any maiden race, each horse’s career starts are negligible and hardly indicative of future results, forcing everyone to look to the jockey—and Gallardo has an impressive habit of riding winning horses, so I’m with him.

Race 8 Tip

At 15/1, Saucy Derek, ridden by Scott Spieth has a shot at a surprise win here. Spieth is a top jockey, and five career starts with one finish in the money is actually a fair-to-middlin’ record in this maiden field.
