Santa Anita Park Picks for Friday, May 29, 2020 – Free Horse Racing Betting Tips

Santa Anita Park offers up an 8-race assortment of maiden and claiming matches for Friday, May 29, 2020.

The Friday forecast for Arcadia, California, continues the week’s trend of partly cloudy skies, with a zero percent chance of rain, highs in the low 80s, and winds around 12 mph.

I’m covering the two stakes races as well as one of the richer claiming races here, but you can always find the full card of Santa Anita races, entries, jockeys, trainers, and wagering options at one of the leading horse racing betting sites.

Post time for the first race at Santa Anita Park on Friday is 12:30 PM (PDT). Now, let’s move on to my tips, picks, and predictions.

  • Post Time: 12:30 PM
  • Purse: $50,000
  • Distance: 4-1/2 furlongs
  • Conditions: For California Bred Or California Sired Maidens, Fillies Two Years Old

Race 1 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Monicat, A T Gryder, 4/1
  • 2 Felicidad Legada, E Flores, 12/1
  • 3 Stars of Bluegrass, D Van Dyke, 7/2
  • 4 Smoothlikebuttah, R Fuentes, 5/2
  • 5 Governor Goteven, T J Pereira, 6/1
  • 6 Koko’s Mom, C E Lopez, Jr., 20/1
  • 7 Miss Glorious, A Cedillo, 2/1

Race 1 Prediction and Pick

I like the 2/1 favorite in this maiden race: Miss Glorious, with veteran jockey Abel Cedillo in the irons. This two-year-old is one of only two fillies in this field with any career starts—one, to be exact, in which she came in fourth.

Race 1 Tip

Save your longshot money—none of the longer odds entries are worth the risk.

  • Miss Glorious

  • Post Time: 1:33 PM
  • Purse: $50,000
  • Distance: 5-1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 30 feet)
  • Conditions: For California Bred Or California Sired Maidens, Fillies And Mares Three Years Old And Upward

Race 3 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Lets Get Wild, A Cedillo, 2/1
  • 2 Tiger’s Princess, J Valdivia, Jr., 30/1
  • 3 Our Romance, R Fuentes, 5/1
  • 4 Gifted Talk, A T Gryder, 10/1
  • 5 Ride Sally Ride, T J Pereira, 12/1
  • 6 What a Family, M Gutierrez, 12/1
  • 7 Bella Chica, U Rispoli, 5/2
  • 8 Fireproof, F Prat, 3/1

Race 3 Prediction and Pick

This one could be pretty tight for a maiden race, with top jockeys Abel Cedillo, Ruben Fuentes, Flavien Prat, and Umberto Rispoli fighting it out. I like the third-favored horse (3/1) in this match—Fireproof, with Flavien Prat aboard. While Fireproof is a cypher in this match, with no career starts, Prat’s the best of the best in this race, and that matters.

Race 3 Tip

At 12/1, What a Family, ridden by Mario Gutierrez, strikes me as undervalued and worthy of a modest investment.

  • Fireproof

  • Post Time: 3:41 PM
  • Purse: $51,000
  • Distance: 5-1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 30 feet)
  • Conditions: For Fillies Three Years Old Which Have Never Won $15,000 Other Than Maiden, Claiming Or Starter Or Which Have Never Won Two Races Or Optional Claiming Price Of $80,000

Race 7 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Kustom for Karl, U Rispoli, 3/1
  • 2 Bella Vita, SCRATCHED
  • 3 Lighthouse, D Van Dyke, 2/1
  • 4 Lofty, G Franco, 9/5
  • 5 Mean Sophia, A Cedillo, 12/1

Race 7 Prediction and Pick

Every jockey in this race takes their job seriously, and this will almost certainly be the tightest race of the day. Still, I’m sticking with the 9/5 favorite, Lofty, with Geovanni Franco in the irons. Franco has the best wins/WPS stats in this race, and Lofty has moneyed in five of her six career starts, with three of those wins.

Race 7 Tip

The only long odds (12/1) in this race belong to Mean Sophia, with Abel Cedillo aboard. Cedillo is a solid contender, and Mean Sophia has won one of her three career starts. It could happen.

  • Lofty
