Race 1 Prediction and Pick
I’m going with the 8/5 moneyline favorite (and my nomination for the Most Honestly-Named Thoroughbred Ever) U S S Costly, ridden by Charles Oliveros. This is a maiden race, so we can toss out any hope for meaningful statistics. Instead, we look at each horse’s connections—jockey, trainer, etc. In this case, I dislike Oliveros—or to be more precise, his statistics—less than I dislike those of the jockeys riding the next three moneyline-favored horses in this field.
Race 1 Tip
I have two probable show ticket success stories for this race: Harvest Gold (at 30/1), ridden by Yuri Yaranga, and One Spur McGirr (at 20/1), ridden by Luis Colon. I like Yaranga because he has finished in the money for nearly half his starts, and I don’t see him slowing down anytime soon. And I like Colon because he is the winningest jockey in this race. So, two show tickets.

I like the third-favored (4/1) entry in this field–Go Uncle Bob, with Keivan Serrano aboard. This four-year-old colt has a better record than the two horses the moneyline fancies more: Four finishes in the money out of five career starts, two of them wins.

No long odds wagers are worth the risk, but it’s possible you would find a happy ending with a show ticket on 8/1 Actspectation, with Luciano Hernandez in the irons. This four-year-old gelding has moneyed four times in his eight career starts, winning two of them.

Race 6 Tip
Not long odds by any means, but at 8/1, Flatter Me Sydney with Charles Oliveros aboard looks like a probability. This four year-old filly has moneyed six of her 18 starts.
