Free Horse Racing Picks and Betting Tips for Mountaineer Racetrack – Monday, June 1, 2020

| June 1, 2020 12:52 am PDT

While the racetrack remains closed to spectators until further notice, Mountaineer Casino Racetrack & Resort in New Cumberland, West Virginia is offering an eight-race card of mostly claiming matches for June 1, 2020.

The forecast for Monday in New Cumberland calls for mostly sunny skies with a slight (10%) chance of rain, temperatures in the low 70s, and mild breezes around 7 mph.

While I’m covering the three richest races here, remember that you can find all the Mountaineer Racetrack races, including entries, odds, and wager options, at our recommended horse racing betting sites.

  • 8 Life Mission, SCRATCHED
  • 9 Volcano Bay, L Hernandez, 30/1
  • 10 Unbridledselection, A Gonzalez, 15/1

Race 1 Prediction and Pick

I’m sticking with the 5/2 favorite in this maiden match: Gobarrybarry, with Luis Quinones aboard. This four-year-old gelding has moneyed one time in 6 career starts—not a bad record in this field.

Race 1 Tip

About the riskiest I’ll get here is Royal Leige at 6/1, and that’s mostly owing to his jockey, Deshawn Parker. If Parker doesn’t know how to get his mount across the finish line first, then I can’t even.

Pick
  • Gobarrybarry
    5/2

RACE 2

  • Post Time: 7:25 PM
  • Purse: $10,400
  • Type: CLAIMING
  • Distance: 5 furlongs (turf)
  • For Three Year Olds And Upward Which Have Never Won Three Races. If necessary will be run same distance Main Track.

Race 2 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 My Brother Steve, W Ortiz, 8/1
  • 2 Baysider, L R Rivera, 7/2
  • 3 Empty Talk, N Vigil, 6/1
  • 4 Mr Chocolate Chip, L Hernandez, 20/1
  • 5 Andrew the Giant, O J Mayta, 8/1
  • 6 Mo Satin, A Williams, 20/1
  • 7 Captain Regan, C Oliveros, 12/1
  • 8 Maximum Factor, L M Quinones, 9/2
  • 9 Listen to the Lion, T D Houghton, 12/1
  • 10 Stay Awesome, SCRATCHED

Race 2 Prediction and Pick

I like the second-favored (7/2) horse here—Baysider, with Luis Rivera in the irons. This gelding has 34 career starts with 18 of those in the money and two wins.

Race 2 Tip

Another 6/1 sleeper is Empty Talk, ridden by Noel Vigil. This five-year-old gelding has moneyed three times in six career starts—two of those wins. Nothing longer-shotty looks good.

Pick
  • Baysider
    7/2

RACE 7

  • Post Time: 9:30 PM
  • Purse: $12,400
  • Type: STARTER ALLOWANCE
  • Distance: 4-1/2 furlongs
  • For Three Year Olds And Upward Which Have Started For A Claiming Price Of $5,000 Or Less In 2019 – 2020.

Race 7 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Wills Defence, SCRATCHED
  • 2 Greg Rules Da, A Bracho, 2/1
  • 3 Shackleson, A Gonzalez, 6/1
  • 4 That’s Buckbeak, L M Quinones, 12/1
  • 5 Treetop Flyer, T D Houghton, 10/1
  • 6 Sir Kowboy, A R Ramgeet, 6/1
  • 7 Springmeier, L R Rivera, 7/5

Race 7 Prediction and Pick

I’m going with the 7/5 favorite here: Springmeier, with Luis Rivera in the irons. This eight-year-old gelding achieved 17 money finishes in 36 career starts, nine of them wins.

Race 7 Tip

I don’t see any long odds entries worth the risk, so keep your longshot money in your pocket.

Pick
  • Springmeier
    7/5
