Harrah’s Louisiana Downs continues its schedule of thoroughbred racing with a seven-race card of maiden and claiming matches on Wednesday, July 8, 2020.
The forecast in Bossier City, Louisiana, for Wednesday calls for scattered thunderstorms, temps in the upper 80s, and winds around eight mph.
As always, I cover the three richest races here, but you can find the complete list of races for Louisiana Downs, including entries, jockeys, and wagering options, at our recommended horse racing betting sites.
My Louisiana Downs picks and tips for Wednesday are below. Post time for the first race today is 3:05 PM (CDT).
Post Time: 3:05 PM
Type: MAIDEN CLAIMING
Distance: 1 mile and 70 yards
Conditions: For Accredited Louisiana Bred Maidens, Fillies And Mares Three Years Old And Upward. If deemed inadvisable by management to run this race over the turf course, it will be run on the main track at 1 Mile and 70 Yards
Race 1 Runners and Odds Forecast
1 Little Girls Rule, K J Smith, 9/2
2 G’s Deadline, J Dominguez, 8/5
3 Souvenir Channel, H Del-Cid, 6/1
4 Haute Cuisine, J Gilligan, 6/1
5 Lady King, O Martinez, 7/2
6 X Minus One, G Mora, 4/1
Race 1 Prediction and Pick
One of the worst fields ever. The entry with the best record is the 8/5 moneyline favorite, of course, but that record is three money finishes in seven career starts. Okay, so I’ll play along: My pick is G’s Deadline, ridden by Joel Dominguez.
Race 1 Tip
No long odds in this race. Best if we just move on.
Post Time: 4:55 PM
Type: ALLOWANCE OPTIONAL CLAIMING
Distance: 1 mile and 70 yards
Conditions: For Three Year Olds And Upward Which Have Never Won Three Races Other Than Maiden, Claiming, Starter, Or State Bred Allowance Or Which Have Never Won Four Races Or Claiming Price $20,000. If deemed inadvisable by management to run this race over the turf course, it will be run on the main track at 1 Mile and 70 Yards
Race 5 Runners and Odds Forecast
1 Bullet Bandit, SCRATCHED
1A Destiny Awaits, A Trujillo, 15/1
2 Pursuit of a Dream, SCRATCHED
3 Budro Talking, SCRATCHED
4 Nobrag Justfact, SCRATCHED
5 Take That for Data, R E Eramia, 5/2
6 Nate’s Attack, J Dominguez, 12/1
7 More Ice, G Mora, 8/1
8 Tashkent, K J Smith, 15/1
9 Majestic Sign, SCRATCHED
Race 5 Prediction and Pick
I’m going with the second-favored (5/2) entry in this race—Take That for Data, with top jockey Richard Eramia aboard. This five-year-old gelding moneyed in nine of his 19 career starts, winning four of them.
Race 5 Tip
Lots of long-odds opportunities in this race, but the one I think is the most likely to pay is the 15/1 Tashkent, ridden by Kevin J. Smith. This five-year-old moneyed nine of his 15 career starts, winning four of them. You’ll note this horse has a better record than the top two moneyline favorites and then wonder why I’m not recommending a win bet here. Well, who says I’m not?
Take That for Data
Post Time: 5:49 PM
Distance: 5 furlongs
Conditions: For Fillies And Mares Three Years Old And Upward Which Have Never Won A Race Other Than Maiden, Claiming, Or Starter Or Which Have Never Won Two Races. If deemed inadvisable by management to run this race over the turf course, it will be run on the main track at Five Furlongs
Race 7 Runners and Odds Forecast
1 Lebkuchen, G Mora, 7/2
2 Trefoil, F T Rodriguez, 20/1
3 For Reef’s Sake, SCRATCHED
4 Shallow River, J Dominguez, 5/2
5 Marrazano, H Del-Cid, 10/1
6 Goodnight Gracie, SCRATCHED
7 Sunshine Deelite, SCRATCHED
8 Boston Cadillac, J Gilligan, 7/2
9 Bluebird Sing, K Kellenberger, 15/1
Race 7 Prediction and Pick
I’m in agreement with the moneyline—I’m going with the 5/2 favorite, Shallow River, with top jockey Joel Dominquez in the irons. This four-year-old filly finished in the money for eight of her nine career starts, three of them wins.
Race 7 Tip
At 15/1, I think Bluebird Sing, with Kody Kellenberger aboard, is a slight undervalue in this race. This three-year-old filly moneyed in two of her four career starts, winning one of them. But more importantly, various weight allowances—including Kellenberger’s five-pound apprentice allowance—has her running this race carrying at least nine pounds less than her competition. Try a show ticket.
