| June 1, 2020 1:13 am PDT

Thoroughbred racing at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas continues with a 9-race variety pack of maiden, allowance, and claiming matches.

The forecast for Monday in Grand Prairie is mostly cloudy skies with a zero percent chance of rain, highs in the mid-80s, and winds around 8 mph.

While I’m covering the three richest races here, you can find all the Lone Star Park races, including entries, odds, and wager options, at our recommended horse racing betting sites.

Post time for the first race at Lone Star Park on Monday is 1:35 PM (CDT). My picks and tips are below.

RACE 5

  • Post Time: 3:43 PM
  • Purse: $35,000
  • Type: ALLOWANCE
  • Distance: 5 furlongs (turf)
  • For Fillies Three Years Old Which Have Never Won A Race Other Than Maiden, Claiming, Starter, Or State Bred Allowance Or Which Have Never Won Two Races. If Deemed inadvisable by management to run this race over the Turf course, it will be run on the main track at Five Furlongs.

Race 5 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Hailey’s Day, A Contreras, 9/2
  • 2 My Fol, D P Vergara, 20/1
  • 3 Stalemate, S Elliott, 7/2
  • 4 Lucky Every Day, R A Vazquez, 8/1
  • 5 Boston Cadillac, D Cabrera, 10/1
  • 6 Collecting Stars, I V Diego, 12/1
  • 7 Lil Red Vette, W De La Cruz, 6/1
  • 8 Lady Gwen, L Wade, 3/1
  • 9 Nautical Gem, C McMahon, 10/1

Race 5 Prediction and Pick

I’m going to go with the second-favored (7/2) horse here: Stalemate, with Stewart Elliott in the irons. With a record identical to the favorite (six career starts, three money finishes, one win), this filly has a slight advantage in starting position, and another skosh of advantage in her jockey. I think those add up to a win.

Race 5 Tip

At 20/1, My Fol–ridden by Daniel Vergara and in an early staring position–is a distinct possibility in this race. Two money finishes in six career starts (one win) says your best bet is a show.

Pick
  • Stalemate
    7/2

RACE 6

  • Post Time: 4:15 PM
  • Purse: $36,000
  • Type: ALLOWANCE OPTIONAL CLAIMING
  • Distance: 6 furlongs
  • For Fillies And Mares Three Years Old And Upward Which Have Never Won Two Races Other Than Maiden, Claiming, Starter, Trial Or State Bred Or Which Have Never Won Three Races Or Claiming Price $30,000.

  • 1 Ruffenuff, O Mojica, 7/2
  • 1A Raider, L Wade, 7/2
  • 2 Brave Daisey, S Risenhoover, 12/1
  • 3 Play Unified, C McMahon, 5/2
  • 4 Karate Hottie, D Cabrera, 3/1
  • 5 Kasserine Pass, R E Eramia, 5/1
  • 6 Shaharazad, R A Vazquez, 8/1
  • 7 Wasabi Girl, S Elliott, 8/1

Coupled Entries – 1 – Ruffenuff, 1A – Raider

Race 6 Prediction and Pick

I think the second-favored (3/1) Karate Hottie, with David Cabrera aboard, has the best chance in this race. This four-year-old filly has 16 money finishes in 19 career starts, seven of them wins. And Cabrera is one of the most successful jockeys in this match.

Race 6 Tip

The 8/1 Shaharazad, with Ramon Vazquez aboard, is the riskiest bet I’d want to make in this race. This filly has a respectable record for this field: Eight money finishes out of 17 career starts, with four of them wins. Vazquez helps make up the difference.

Pick
  • Karate Hottie
    3/1

RACE 8

  • Post Time: 5:15 PM
  • Purse: $38,000
  • Type: ALLOWANCE OPTIONAL CLAIMING
  • Distance: 5 furlongs (turf)
  • For Three Year Olds And Upward Which Have Not Won Two Races Other Than Maiden, Claiming, Starter, Trial Or State Bred In 2020 Or Claiming Price $40,000. If Deemed inadvisable by management to run this race over the Turf course, it will be run on the main track at Five Furlongs.

Race 8 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Lawton, D Cabrera, 5/2
  • 1A Imma Bling, D Cabrera, 5/2
  • 2 Game Loading, R E Eramia, 15/1
  • 3 Share the Upside, S Elliott, 7/5
  • 4 Nicky Numbers, W De La Cruz, 30/1
  • 5 Jareth, C McMahon, 10/1
  • 6 Silver City Blues, A Contreras, 30/1
  • 7 Basic Chance, R A Vazquez, 20/1
  • 8 J C’s Nightcap, L J Luzzi, 20/1
  • 9 Channel Won, Q Hamilton, 9/2
  • 10 Fine Mate, L S Quinonez, 30/1
  • 11 Vivid Verse, L Wade, 15/1

Coupled Entries – 1 – Lawton, 1A – Imma Bling

Race 8 Prediction and Pick

I’m going to stick with the 7/5 favorite here—Share the Upside, with Stewart Elliott in the irons. This gelding posted 10 finishes in the money out of 15 career starts, and five of those were wins.

Race 8 Tip

At 20/1, Basic Chance is a real sleeper in this field. This six-year-old gelding has 19 money finishes in 30 career starts, and 11 of those were wins. He almost doesn’t need top jockey Ramon Vazquez aboard to seal the deal, but as long as he’s along for the ride, we should be, too.

Pick
  • Share the Upside
    7/5
