Free Horse Racing Picks and Betting Tips for Keeneland Race Course – Thursday, July 9, 2020

| July 9, 2020 12:21 am PDT

Thoroughbred racing at Keeneland Race Course continues for Thursday, July 9, 2020, with a nine-race card of maiden, allowance, and claiming matches.

The forecast for Thursday in Lexington, Kentucky, calls for mostly sunny skies with a 20% chance of rain, temperatures in the low 90s, and light breezes around four mph.

I cover the three races with the largest purses here, but you can always find the complete list of Keeneland races, entries, and wagering options at one of our top horse racing betting sites.

My Keeneland picks and betting tips can be found below. Post time for the first race on Thursday is 1:05 PM (EDT).

Race 5 Prediction and Pick

This is going to be a tight race, but I like one of the second-favored (5/1) entries in this contest—Jen Take Charge, with Corey Lanerie in the irons. This four-year-old filly finished in the money for three of her five career starts, one win and two seconds. She definitely knows how to get paid.

Race 5 Tip

None of the longer odds entries in this race are worth the risk.

Pick
  • Jen Take Charge
    5/1

  • 10 Freedom Passage, M Mena, 30/1
  • 11 Moral Reasoning, T Gaffalione, 5/2
  • 12 Be Nimble, G Corrales, 30/1

Race 7 Prediction and Pick

I like the second-favored (3/1) entry in this race, as well—Ella Brilla, ridden by Adam Beschizza. This three-year-old filly moneyed all five of her career starts—one them a win.

Race 7 Tip

Don’t listen to that 50/1 longshot’s siren song—there are sometimes very good reasons for such long odds. Instead, look at the 20/1 longshot, Fashionable Lady, with Florent Geroux aboard. This three-year-old filly is a bit of a wildcard here, but her single money finish out of two career starts was a win, so she definitely knows where the fine line is drawn. Worth a show ticket.

Pick
  • Ella Brilla
    3/1

RACE 8

  • Post Time: 4:57 PM
  • Purse: $79,000
  • Type: ALLOWANCE OPTIONAL CLAIMING

  • 6 Summer Delivery, T Baze, 12/1
  • 7 Honey Parade, J Graham, 20/1
  • 8 Dos Vinos, M Murrill, 5/2
  • 9 Lead Guitar, T Gaffalione, 9/2
  • 10 Club Car, C J Lanerie, 4/1

Coupled Entries – 1 – Inthemidstofbiz, 1A – A. P. Princess

Race 8 Prediction and Pick

I like the 5/2 moneyline favorite Dos Vinos, ridden by Mitchell Murrill. This four-year-old filly finished in the money in all four of her career starts, winning two of them (see tip).

Race 8 Tip

It’s possible the three moneyline favorites will cross the finish line first and in numerical order (#8, 9, #10), so a trifecta bet reflecting that might be prudent. Still, I like the 15/1 odds on Mom’s Red Lipstick, with Brian J. Hernandez Jr. aboard. This three-year-old filly moneyed all three of her career starts, winning two of them—putting her statistically ahead of all three of the moneyline favorites. Worth a show bet if not a win ticket.

Pick
  • Dos Vinos
    5/2
