Keeneland Race Course thoroughbred racing continues for Friday, July 10, 2020, with seven regular races as well as two big-purse stakes races: The Beaumont Stakes and the Maker’s Mark Mile Stakes.
The forecast for Friday in Lexington, Kentucky, says it’s probably going to be a rainy day, with scattered thunderstorms, temps in the upper 80s, and winds around ten mph.
I cover both stakes races as well as one of the richer races here, but you can always find the full card of Keeneland races, entries, and wagering options at one of our leading horse racing betting sites.
My Keeneland picks and betting tips for Friday are below. Post time for the first race today is 1:05 PM (EDT).

Race 5 Runners and Odds Forecast
1 Thirstforlife, M Mena, 8/1
2 Guest Suite, E Esquivel, 8/1
3 Scars Are Cool, T Gaffalione, 7/2
4 Treasure Trove, J Graham, 8/1
5 Royal Mesa, R Bejarano, 6/1
6 Title Ready, C J Lanerie, 6/1
7 Bourbon Resolution, C Landeros, 3/1
8 Troubling Moon, B J Hernandez, Jr., 4/1
Race 5 Prediction and Pick
I suspect this race is a toss-up between the second- and third-favored entries, but I am going with the 4/1 Troubling Moon, with Brian J. Hernandez Jr. in the irons. This five-year-old gelding moneyed four of his seven career starts, three of those wins. And Hernandez is no slouch in the pilothouse, either.
Race 5 Tip
You could make a show bet on just about any of the remaining seven horses in this race and have a good chance of seeing a modest payday, but I think the most realistic show bet would be on the 6/1 Royal Mesa, with Rafael Bejarano aboard. Since Bejarano is the winningest jockey in this race, does it really matter what Royal Mesa’s record is? Well, just in case: seven out of 12 money finishes, three of them wins.
I’m going with one of the second-favored (3/1) entries in this race—Wicked Whisper, with top jockey Joel Rosario in the irons. This filly finished in the money two times out of three career starts, both of them wins.
Race 7 Tip
Go ahead, throw down two bucks for a show ticket on the 12/1 Turtle Trax, with Brian J. Hernandez in the irons. This filly finished in the money four times in seven career starts, two of them wins.
RACE 8 – Maker’s Mark Mile Stakes (Grade I)
Post Time: 4:57 PM
Distance: 1 mile (turf)
Conditions: For Four Year Olds And Upward
Race 8 Runners and Odds Forecast
1 Hembree, J Castellano, 12/1
2 High Crime, L Saez, 30/1
3 Parlor, F Geroux, 10/1
4 Raging Bull, J Rosario, 9/5
5 English Bee, J Graham, 10/1
6 Everfast, R Santana, Jr., 15/1
7 Emmaus, B J Hernandez, Jr., 20/1
8 Without Parole, I Ortiz, Jr., 5/2
9 Next Shares, J R Velazquez, 8/1
10 War of Will, T Gaffalione, 6/1
Race 8 Prediction and Pick
I’m sticking with the 9/5 moneyline favorite in this race—Raging Bull, with Joel Rosario aboard. In a field like this, a horse really has to have the chops to succeed, and this five-year-old has them: ten money finishes out of 13 career starts—six of them wins.
Race 8 Tip
At 30/1, High Crime with Luis Saez in the irons is a bit undervalued here. Try a show bet on this four-year-old colt who finished in the money six times in nine career starts, two of them wins.
