Free Horse Racing Picks and Betting Tips for Gulfstream Park – Wednesday, July 8, 2020

| July 8, 2020 12:07 am PDT

Thoroughbred racing at Gulfstream Park continues for Wednesday, July 8, 2020, featuring a ten-race card of claiming, allowance, and maiden matches.

The forecast for Wednesday in Hallandale Beach, Florida, calls for scattered thunderstorms, temperatures around 90 degrees, and winds in the nine-mph range.

I always cover the three races with the largest purses here, but you can always find the complete list of Gulfstream Park races, entries, and wagering options at one of our highest-rated horse racing betting sites.

Post time for the first race at Gulfstream Park on Wednesday is 12 PM (EDT). Now, let’s take a look at my predictions, picks, and tips.

RACE 2

  • Post Time: 12:30 PM
  • Purse: $33,500
  • Type: MAIDEN CLAIMING
  • Distance: 5 furlongs
  • Conditions: For Maidens, Fillies Two Years Old

Race 2 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Watermelon Sugar, V Lebron, 9/2
  • 2 Dark Blue Flame, M G Pino, 4/1
  • 3 Special Inclusion, E Jaramillo, 5/2
  • 4 Heart of God, A Burgos, 30/1
  • 5 Kitten’s Dream, M Fuentes, 30/1
  • 6 My Glory, S Gonzalez, 5/1
  • 7 Shouldaknownbetter, S Camacho, 12/1
  • 8 Nag Nag Nag, E J Zayas, 7/2
  • 9 Dial a Lady, L Reyes, 20/1
  • 10 C’Est Parti, B C Boulanger, 30/1

Race 2 Prediction and Pick

I’m sticking with the 5/2 moneyline favorite in this maiden race for two-year-olds—Special Inclusion, with Emisael Jaramillo in the irons. This filly has the best workout history in this field, and Jaramillo is the winningest jockey in this race.

Race 2 Tip

I like to pay particular attention to apprentice jockeys—and their weight allowances—for my long-shot picks, but both the apprentices in this race are aboard fillies that earned nothing but a “poor” in my statistics. So keep that longshot money in your pocket for later.

Pick
  • Special Inclusion
    5/2

RACE 3

  • Post Time: 1:02 PM
  • Purse: $36,000
  • Type: CLAIMING
  • Distance: 1-1/16 miles (turf, rail at 72 feet)
  • Conditions: For Three Year Olds. If deemed inadvisable to run this race over the turf course, it will be run on the main track at One Mile

Race 3 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Makabim, E J Zayas, 3/1
  • 2 Threshold, V Lebron, 7/2
  • 3 Blessed Journey (MTO), M Meneses, 3/1
  • 4 Plato (MTO), E Jaramillo, 5/2
  • 5 Indy’s Jewel, A S Arroyo, 8/1
  • 6 Cardiac Kid, E S Prado, 9/2
  • 7 Kunal, A A Rodriguez, 5/2
  • 8 Strong Ending, J Trejos, 4/1

Race 3 Prediction and Pick

This could be an entirely different race if it moves to dirt, but on turf, with no scratches, I’m going with the second-favored (3/1) entry, Makabim, ridden by top jockey Edgardo Zayas. This three-year-old gelding finished in the money for seven of his ten career starts, two of those wins.

Race 3 Tip

No real long odds in this race, so once again, save your longshot money. Sure, there’s one apprentice riding (Joseph Trejos aboard Strong Ending), but in this field, the odds would have to be much better than the 4/1 moneyline assigned.

Pick
  • Makabim
    3/1

RACE 9

  • Post Time: 4:13 PM
  • Purse: $47,000
  • Type: ALLOWANCE OPTIONAL CLAIMING
  • Distance: 6 furlongs
  • Conditions: For Fillies And Mares Three Years Old And Upward Which Have Never Won $10,000 Once Other Than Maiden, Claiming, Starter Or State Bred Allowance Or Which Have Never Won Two Races Or Claiming Price $25,000

Race 9 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Baccarat Fashion, E J Zayas, 5/2
  • 2 Sayonara Baby, L Reyes, 3/1
  • 3 Takecharge Mirella, J Trejos, 6/1
  • 4 J’s Indian Charm, R D Allen, Jr., 4/1
  • 5 Bargainaire, A Burgos, 7/2
  • 6 Trevess, M Meneses, 6/1

Race 9 Prediction and Pick

Another tight race, and I’m going to stick with the 5/2 moneyline favorite—Baccarat Fashion, ridden by top jockey Edgard Zayas. This five-year-old mare moneyed in 11 of her 21 career starts, winning four of them.

Race 9 Tip

The best I can find here is the 4/1 J’s Indian Charm, with Ronald Dale Allen Jr. aboard, and the return on a show ticket just doesn’t make it worth it. But if you can find longer odds on this entry, however, give it a go—perhaps even for a win bet. This six-year-old mare finished in the money 18 of her 41 career starts, with 11 wins.

Pick
  • Baccarat Fashion
    5/2
