Gulfstream Park Picks for Friday, June 19, 2020

Gulfstream Park thoroughbred racing continues with nine maiden, allowance, and claiming matches on Friday, June 19, 2020.

The Friday forecast for Hallandale Beach, Florida, calls for scattered thunderstorms, temperatures in the mid-80s, and winds around 10 mph.

While I cover the three richest matches here, you can always find the full list of Gulfstream Park races, entries, and wagering options at these leading horse racing betting sites.

Post time for the first race on Friday is 12 PM (EDT). Here are my Gulfstream Park picks and betting tips for today.

  • Post Time: 12:00 PM
  • Purse: $65,000
  • Distance: 5-1/2 furlongs
  • Conditions: For Maidens, Fillies Two Years Old

Race 1 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Fouzia, P Lopez, 4/1
  • 2 Wholebodemeister, C Olivero, 15/1
  • 3 Acting Lucky, M A Vasquez, 7/2
  • 4 Hara, E J Zayas, 3/1
  • 5 Flight to Shanghai, S Camacho, 6/1
  • 6 Tantalizing Gal, M G Pino, 12/1
  • 7 Dannyhill, L R Reyes, 10/1
  • 8 Audrey, C A Torres, 15/1
  • 9 Gulf Coast Gal, SCRATCHED

Race 1 Prediction and Pick

Predicting anything about a maiden race of two-year-olds is the absolute definition of a fool’s errand. That said, I’m going to stick with the moneyline and bet on Hara at 3/1, with top jockey Edgard Zayas in the irons. This filly has only a single career start, but she moneyed in that, which puts her in the top three of this field. Throw in her performance during workouts and the fact that her pilot is one of the winningest jockeys at Gulfstream these days, and I think we have a winner.

Race 1 Tip

I don’t see any of the long-odds entries in this race doing anything but following the three top moneyline favorites across the finish line.

  • Hara

  • Post Time: 2:37 PM
  • Purse: $47,000
  • Distance: 1 mile (turf, rail at 96 feet)
  • Conditions: For State Bred Three Year Olds And Upward Which Have Never Won A Race Other Than Maiden, Claiming Or Starter Or Which Have Never Won Two Races Or Claiming Price $20,000. If deemed inadvisable to run this race over the turf course, it will be run on the main track at One Mile

Race 6 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 My Point Exactly, P Lopez, 3/1
  • 2 Drillomatic, SCRATCHED
  • 3 Unlockthepotential, L Reyes, 10/1
  • 4 Ambassador Jim, E Jaramillo, 10/1
  • 5 Allurstra (MTO), M A Vasquez, 9/2
  • 6 Krammy Boy (MTO), SCRATCHED
  • 7 Rhythmia, J Bravo, 7/2
  • 8 Didnt Do It, E J Zayas, 12/1
  • 9 Sublime Appeal, R Maragh, 4/1
  • 10 Valiant Virtue, S Camacho, 6/1
  • 11 Cpt. Rhett Butler (MTO), SCRATCHED
  • 12 Til the End, M Meneses, 8/1
  • 13 Fourth Design (MTO) , C A Torres, 15/1

Race 6 Prediction and Pick

I like the second-favored (7/2) entry in this race: Rhythmia, ridden by Joe Bravo. This four-year-old gelding moneyed in 12 of his 20 career starts, with five of those wins.

Race 6 Tip

I don’t see any long-odds entries worth the risk.

  • Rhythmia

  • Post Time: 3:41 PM
  • Purse: $48,000
  • Distance: 5 furlongs (turf, rail at 36 feet)
  • Conditions: For Fillies Three Years Old Which Have Never Won $10,000 Once Other Than Maiden, Claiming, Starter Or State Bred Allowance Or Which Have Never Won Two Races Or Claiming Price $50,000

Race 8 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Classy Beast, E Jaramillo, 20/1
  • 2 Song River, C A Torres, 5/1
  • 3 Mane Attraction, M Fuentes, 20/1
  • 4 Fujairah, S Gonzalez, 15/1
  • 5 Mrs. Maisel, M A Vasquez, 20/1
  • 6 Carolyn’s Smile (MTO), E Jaramillo, 6/1
  • 7 Swirling Candy, S Camacho, 2/1
  • 8 Fly On Angel, P Lopez, 6/1
  • 9 Poseidon’s Passion, E J Zayas, 4/1
  • 10 Solid as a Rock (MTO), E J Zayas, 7/2
  • 11 Tony’s Rose, A A Rodriguez, 9/2
  • 12 Queen Abarrio, SCRATCHED
  • 13 Bibiana (MTO), S Camacho, 4/1

Race 8 Prediction and Pick

I can’t ignore the 6/1 Fly On Angel, ridden by Paco Lopez. In six career starts, this filly has never finished worse than fourth. She’s finished in the money five times, with three of those wins.

Race 8 Tip

At 20/1, Mrs. Maisel—with Miguel A. Vasquez in the irons—is a possible show ticket. This filly moneyed in four of her eight starts, with two of those wins.
