Churchill Downs Picks for Friday, June 12, 2020

Churchill Downs thoroughbred racing continues for Friday, June 12, 2020, with a 9-race schedule of maiden, claiming, and allowance races.

The forecast for Louisville for Friday predicts mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 80s with zero percent chance of rain and 8-mph breezes.

While I cover the three richest matches here, you can always find the complete card of Churchill Downs races at one of these leading horse racing betting sites.

A – Coupled Entries – 1 – Bulletin, 1A – Copper Town

B – Coupled Entries – 2 – Tell Your Daddy, 2B – Elusive Mischief

Race 3 Prediction and Pick

Plenty of talent in the irons in this race. I’m sticking with the 3/1 moneyline favorite here: Just Might, with Gabriel Saez aboard. This four-year-old gelding finished in the money in 11 of his 14 starts, three of those wins.

Race 3 Tip

No long odds entries in this race, but I’m going to bet Copper Town, with Gerardo Corrales in the irons, to show. At 7/2 moneyline for this race, this six-year-old has finished in the money in five of his seven starts, winning three of them.

Pick
  • Just Might
    3/1

RACE 6

  • Post Time: 3:42 PM
  • Purse: $83,000
  • Type: ALLOWANCE OPTIONAL CLAIMING
  • Distance: 1 mile (turf)
  • Conditions: For Three Year Olds And Upward Which Have Never Won $10,000 Twice Other Than Maiden, Claiming Or Starter Or Which Have Never Won Three Races Or Claiming Price $62,500. If deemed inadvisable by management to run this race over the turf course, it will be run on the main track at One mile

Race 6 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Limonite, R Santana, Jr., 8/1
  • 2 Uncapped, B J Hernandez, Jr., 15/1
  • 3 Ballagh Rocks, T Gaffalione, 7/5
  • 4 Mick’s Star, J Graham, 10/1
  • 5 Celerity, C H Borel, 50/1
  • 6 Forloveofcountry, A Beschizza, 20/1
  • 7 Set Piece, F Geroux, 9/5
  • 8 Carom, M Garcia, 8/1
  • 9 Krewe Chief, C J Lanerie, 10/1

Race 6 Prediction and Pick

I’m going with the second-favored (9/5) entry in this race: Set Piece, ridden by Florent Geroux. This four-year-old gelding has finished in the money four of his six career starts, with three of those wins.

Race 6 Tip

As usual, I find myself unable to resist 50/1 longshots—at least if they show possibilities. Celerity, with Calvin Borel aboard, is not likely to win, but the five-year-old gelding did finish 12 of his 26 starts in the money—winning five. Worth a modest investment in a show ticket.

Pick
  • Set Piece
    9/5

RACE 8

  • Post Time: 4:46 PM
  • Purse: $81,000
  • Type: ALLOWANCE OPTIONAL CLAIMING
  • Distance: 1-1/8 miles
  • Conditions: For Three Year Olds Which Have Never Won A Race Other Than Maiden, Claiming, Starter, Or State Bred Or Which Have Never Won Two Races Or Claiming Price $75,000

Race 8 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Fort Knox, G Saez, 12/1
  • 2 Giocare, M Garcia, 12/1
  • 3 Extraordinary, F Geroux, 10/1
  • 4 Hunt the Front, J Talamo, 5/1
  • 5 Earner, R Santana, Jr., 6/1
  • 6 Kadesh, M Mena, 12/1
  • 7 Oxide, C J Lanerie, 6/1
  • 8 Sharecropper, C J Hernandez, 8/1
  • 9 Wrecking Crew, D Cohen, 8/1
  • 10 Man in the Can, T Gaffalione, 5/1
  • 11 Violent Pass, J Rocco, Jr., 12/1
  • 12 Dean Martini, J Graham, 10/1

Race 8 Prediction and Pick

I like Tyler Gaffalione’s mount Man in the Can at 5/1 moneyline in this race. This colt moneyed in three of his four career starts—all of them wins. Think he’s trying to tell us something?

Race 8 Tip

Not real long odds, but 10/1 is enough for me to flag Dean Martini, with James Graham aboard, as undervalued in this race. This gelding has moneyed in seven of his eight starts, winning one of them. Definitely worth a show ticket.

Pick
  • Man in the Can
    5/1
