Free Horse Racing Picks and Betting Tips for Charles Town Races – Thursday, May 28, 2020

Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races continues its thoroughbred meet with mostly maiden and claiming races for Thursday, May 28, 2020.

Rain seems to be the fate of Charles Town, West Virginia. The forecast is again for thunderstorms, with temps in the low 80s, and the wind around 10mph. Pay no attention to that really big boat they’re building on the hill over there.

You can find all the Charles Town Races, including the entries, jockeys, trainers, odds, and wager options, at these recommended horse racing betting sites.

Post time for the first race on Thursday is 7 PM (EDT). My Charles Town Races predictions, picks, and tips follow below.

  • Post Time: 8:55 PM
  • Purse: $17,000
  • Distance: 6-1/2 furlongs
  • For Accredited West Virginia-Bred Maidens, Fillies And Mares Three, Four, Five, And Six Years Old.

Race 5 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Bella Femmina, R Maldonado, 6/1
  • 2 Kim’s Diamond, J Rivera, 12/1
  • 3 She’s Right, K Morales, 12/1
  • 4 Sing Frosty, W Rocha, 12/1
  • 5 Celia’s Pride, V Rodriguez, 9/2
  • 6 Quincys Way, J Villegas, 5/1
  • 7 Marylee, F Peltroche, 5/2
  • 8 Cryptocrossing, R Latchman, 7/2

Race 5 Prediction and Pick

I’m going to stick with the 5/2 favorite in this maiden race, Marylee, with Fredy Peltroche aboard. This filly has not had good luck in her last few starts, with a bump in one race that may have cost her a win, and a lost rider due to a heel-clipping incident in another. That said, she still has two money finishes in her eight career starts.

Race 5 Tip

This is a very even field as far as jockeys go, which is where I tend to look when the horses are rather lackluster or, as in this case, inexperienced. So, to make a long story short: Save your longshot money for a later race.

  • Marylee

  • Post Time: 9:50 PM
  • Purse: $24,500
  • Type: CLAIMING
  • Distance: 7 furlongs
  • For Accredited West Virginia-Bred Three Year Olds And Upward.

Race 7 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Sudden Breeze, SCRATCHED
  • 2 Little Big Sime, W Rocha, 10/1
  • 3 Siente El Viento, J Simpson, 12/1
  • 4 Grumpelstiltskin, A Bocachica, 7/5
  • 5 Owen’s Way, G Almodovar, 8/1
  • 6 Cat Come Home, F Peltroche, 15/1
  • 7 Bacoli, J D Acosta, 4/1
  • 8 Awsome Faith, A Lopez, 6/1
  • 9 Who’s My Boss, K Morales, 15/1

Race 7 Prediction and Pick

I like the third-favored (6/1) in this match—Awsome Faith, ridden by Antonio Lopez. This seven-year-old gelding has moneyed 28 times in his 47 career starts, with nine of those being wins. Lopez is also at the top of his game, so there you are.

Race 7 Tip

I’m not seeing any longer odds wagers worth the risk in this race.

  • Awsome Faith

  • Post Time: 10:18 PM
  • Purse: $28,000
  • Distance: 4-1/2 furlongs
  • For Fillies And Mares Three Years Old And Upward Which Have Never Won Two Races.

Race 8 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Zippy Jo, A Lopez, 15/1
  • 2 Sweetonthegents, C J Delgado, 8/1
  • 3 Campy Cash, A Bocachica, 8/5
  • 4 Adabel, K Morales, 15/1
  • 5 At the Half, K Trotman, 9/2
  • 6 Nice n’ Broad, W Ho, 7/2
  • 7 Mabel, R Latchman, 8/1
  • 8 Lucky Fever, J Montano, 6/1

Race 8 Prediction and Pick

I’m going with the 8/5 favorite in this race, Campy Cash, ridden by veteran jockey Arnaldo Bocachica. One of the three least experienced horses in this field (see below), Campy Cash has already shown promise with two money finishes (one a win) in her three career starts.

Race 8 Tip

Another inexperienced horse it the filly Lucky Fever, ridden by Jose Montano. At 6/1, this three-year-old rivals the favorite in “git ’er done” attitude, with three finishes in the money (one win) out of five career starts. Throw in Montano’s winning abilities, and it could happen.
