Charles Town Races Picks for Thursday, June 25, 2020

Thoroughbred racing continues at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races for Thursday, June 25, 2020, with nine mostly maiden and claiming matches.

The forecast for Charles Town, West Virginia, on Thursday says mostly sunny skies with a 20% chance of rain, highs in the low 80s, and mild breezes around seven mph.

I cover the three races with the largest purses here, but you can always find the complete list of Charles Town races at the best horse racing betting sites.

My Charles Town picks and betting tips for today are below. Post time for the first race on Thursday is 7 PM (EDT).

  • Post Time: 7:57 PM
  • Purse: $28,000
  • Distance: 6-1/2 furlongs
  • Conditions: For Accredited West Virginia-Bred Fillies And Mares Three Years Old And Upward Which Have Never Won A Race Other Than Maiden, Claiming, Starter, Or Waiver Claiming Or Which Have Never Won Two Races

Race 3 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 U S Funds, L A Batista, 10/1
  • 2 Secret Castle, F Peltroche, 2/1
  • 3 Mary’s Listed Next, J Rivera, 20/1
  • 4 Campania, W Ho, 7/2
  • 5 Yodel Lady, R Latchman, 15/1
  • 6 Dancing Destiny, SCRATCHED
  • 7 Lady’s Cork, A Lopez, 10/1
  • 8 Lady Madison, V Rodriguez, 15/1
  • 9 Singindownthelane, S Diaz, Jr., 3/1

Race 3 Prediction and Pick

I’m not nearly as impressed with the 2/1 favorite as the moneyline seems to be, but then again, I don’t see any horse I can point to as a better alternative. So it’s the 2/1 favorite for me: Secret Castle, with Fredy Peltroche in the irons. This three-year-old filly moneyed four out of her seven career starts, with one of those a win.

Race 3 Tip

I think 15/1 underestimates Yodel Lady, with Reshawn Latchman aboard, and I have a two-dollar show ticket that says I mean it. This four-year-old filly finished in the money for 13 of her 21 career starts, with three of those wins. Mathematicians reading this may have already noticed that her career stats are slightly better than those of the favorite’s in terms of percentages. Makes you say “hmmmm.”

You might also consider a show ticket for the 10/1 Lady’s Cork, with Antonio Lopez in the irons. This five-year-old mare also shares similar WPS stats with the favorite, but additionally, her jockey is the winningest in this race.

  • Secret Castle

  • Post Time: 8:25 PM
  • Purse: $17,000
  • Distance: 4-1/2 furlongs
  • Conditions: For Accredited West Virginia-Bred Maidens, Fillies And Mares Three, Four, Five, And Six Years Old. Three Year Olds, 118 Lbs.; Older, 124 Lbs

Race 4 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Queen of Anything, L A Batista, 5/1
  • 2 Buff N, D Thorpe, 3/1
  • 3 Daffydill, C Hiraldo, 7/2
  • 4 Bayou Bougie, A Lopez, 5/2
  • 5 Got Any, J Simpson, 15/1
  • 6 Bronze Diva, SCRATCHED
  • 7 Sing Frosty, W Rocha, 8/1

Race 4 Prediction and Pick

I’m going with the 5/2 moneyline favorite for this maiden race: Bayou Bougie, ridden by Antonio Lopez. As in most maiden races, none of the competing horses have much to brag about, but at least Bayou Bougie moneyed in her single career start. It also helps that Lopez is one of the more experienced and skilled jockeys in this race.

Race 4 Tip

I see no long-odds entries in this race worth the risk.

  • Bayou Bougie

  • Post Time: 10:17 PM
  • Purse: $18,000
  • Type: CLAIMING
  • Distance: 6-1/2 furlongs
  • Conditions: For Fillies And Mares Three Years Old And Upward Which Have Never Won Two Races

Race 8 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Gallinella, A Bocachica 9/5
  • 2 Cool Mo, SCRATCHED
  • 3 So Red the Rose, J Rivera, 15/1
  • 4 Right Notion, C Hiraldo, 10/1
  • 5 Love Happy, G Almodovar, 8/1
  • 6 Debraw, J Schneider, 12/1
  • 7 Boca Birdie, A Lopez, 10/1
  • 8 Pimm and Proper, R Latchman, 12/1
  • 9 Northern Heat, S Diaz, Jr., 12/1

Race 8 Prediction and Pick

I like the 9/5 favorite in this race, Gallinella, with Arnaldo Bocachica aboard. This four-year-old filly has finished in the money eight times in 11 career starts. Also, Bocachica.

Race 8 Tip

Riskiest I want to get in this race is 10/1: Right Notion, with Christian Hiraldo in the irons. This four-year-old filly has moneyed four times in her six career starts. Worth a show ticket.

  • Gallinella
