RACE 3

  • Post Time: 8:03 PM
  • Purse: $28,000
  • Type: ALLOWANCE
  • Distance: 7 furlongs
  • Conditions: For Accredited West Virginia-Bred Fillies And Mares Three Years Old And Upward Which Have Never Won Two Races

Race 3 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Navy Sword, A Bocachica, 9/5
  • 2 C V’s Campfire, S Diaz, Jr., 9/2
  • 3 U S Funds, L A Batista, 15/1
  • 4 Secret Castle, F Peltroche, 4/1
  • 5 It’smyintension, R Latchman, 6/1
  • 6 Commcat, C J Delgado, 6/1
  • 7 Campania, W Ho, 5/1

Race 3 Prediction and Pick

I have to agree with the moneyline on this race and go with the 9/5 favorite: Navy Sword, with top jockey Arnaldo Bocachica aboard.  This three-year-old filly has one money finish in four career starts—and that was a win. Sure, not great even in a field of show tickets looking for a spot marked X, but with the pole position and the winningest jockey in this race aboard, it will happen.

Race 3 Tip

I don’t see any long-odds entries worth the risk in this race.

Pick
  • Navy Sword
    9/5

RACE 5

  • Post Time: 9:03 PM
  • Purse: $28,000
  • Type: ALLOWANCE
  • Distance: 4-1/2 furlongs
  • Conditions: For Three Year Olds And Upward Which Have Never Won A Race Other Than Maiden, Claiming, Starter, Waiver Claiming Or State Bred Races Or Which Have Never Won Two Races

Race 5 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Castle Five, A Lopez, 6/1
  • 2 Rock On, G Larrosa, 10/1
  • 3 Joopster, L A Batista, 4/1
  • 4 Best Shot, C Hiraldo, 8/1
  • 5 Correjon, J Montano, 3/1
  • 6 Zafir, A Bocachica, 7/2
  • 7 Wills Defence, K Trotman, 20/1
  • 8 Windsor Legend, R Maldonado, 20/1
  • 9 Smoky Blues, F Peltroche, 20/1
  • 10 Windsors for It, G Almodovar, 8/1

Race 5 Prediction and Pick

I’m sticking with the 3/1 favorite here: Correjon, with veteran Jose Montano in the irons. Correjon has 16 finishes in the money out of 31 starts—and eight of those were wins. Add that admirable record to Montano’s solid wins/WPS stats, and you have the key to the winner’s circle.

Race 5 Tip

For your longshot money, I like Wills Defence, with veteran jockey Keimar Trotman aboard, at 20/1. Deserving of at least a show bet if not a win ticket, this six-year-old gelding has a record rivalling that of the moneyline favorite—16 money finishes in 34 starts, and eight of those were wins.

Pick
  • Correjon
    3/1

RACE 8 – Fancy Buckles Stakes

  • Post Time: 10:25 PM
  • Purse: $50,000
  • Type: STAKES
  • Distance: 4-1/2 furlongs
  • Conditions: For Registered Accredited West Virginia Bred Fillies And Mares Three Year Olds And Upward

Race 8 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Lil Linder, W Rocha, 15/1
  • 2 Remy’s Rocket, C Hiraldo, 4/1
  • 3 C R Case’s Legacy, A Lopez, 5/1
  • 4 Twirling Owen, J D Acosta, 3/1
  • 5 Unaquoi, A Bocachica, 7/2
  • 6 Summer Frock, F Peltroche, 20/1
  • 7 Manarola, C J Delgado, 9/2
  • 8 Nellysford, G Almodovar, 6/1

Race 8 Prediction and Pick

This stakes race promises to be one of the tightest of the day, with plenty of talent riding plenty of serious contenders. I’m going to stick with the 3/1 favorite here: Twirling Owen, with J. D. Acosta in the irons. This three-year-old filly will see plenty of competition, but with four money finishes out of eight starts—all of them wins—it seems likely she will prevail.

Race 8 Tip

I don’t see any long-odds entry here worth the risk of even a show bet.

Pick
  • Twirling Owen
    3/1
