I like the 5/2 favorite in this race—Derek’s Boy, with J. D. Acosta in the irons. This three-year-old gelding has moneyed three of his five career starts, with one win. This race should add a second win to that record.

At 12/1, Ocasionally Classy, with Joseph Schneider aboard, is worth a modest show ticket. This three-year-old gelding has five money finishes in his 11 starts, with one of those a win.

Tough choice here between the two top moneyline faves, but I’m going to stick with the 9/5 favorite, Grumpelstiltskin, piloted by Arnaldo Bocachica. This six-year-old gelding moneyed 14 times in his 26 career starts, with seven of those wins.

I’m positive the second-favored (2/1) entry, Ellie’s Lil Man, with Christian Hiraldo aboard, will finish in the money, but a show ticket just wouldn’t provide the payday I look for in one of my “tips.” On the other hand, Dionysus’ Chalice at 10/1, with Darius Thorpe in the irons, would provide a better return on a show ticket investment. This five-year-old gelding has finished in the money 18 times out of 33 career starts, with six of those wins.

I like William and Mary at 4/1, with Gerald Almodovar aboard. This five-year-old gelding has finished in the money for 13 of his 18 career starts, with eight of those wins. Sure, there are arguments for the three more favored entries in this race, but none so convincing as William and Mary’s record plus Almodovar’s win stats.

None of the long odds entries in this race are worth the risk. Best I can do is Opera Nite at 9/2, with Arnaldo Bocachica in the irons. This seven-year-old gelding moneyed in 15 of his 20 career starts, with seven of them wins. Worth a show bet, if not a win ticket—particularly because Bocachica is the winningest jockey in this race.
