Energetik-BGU vs. Smolevichi Belarusian Premier League

It seems a long time ago that Energetik-BGU was surprising everyone and topping the Belarusian Premier League. Successive defeats have seen the Minsk club drop down the table.

But the visit of Smolevichi gives Energetik-BGU an excellent chance to put some more points on the board as the top-flight new boys are still to win a single game this season.

You can find the odds, my prediction, and my betting pick below in this Energetik-BGU vs. Smolevichi betting preview.

Energetik-BGU vs. Smolevichi Odds

Energetik-BGU to Win+112
The Draw+222
Smolevichi to Win+264

The home side is the definite favorite here, but BetOnline doesn’t have that much between the two clubs. I would have expected Energetik-BGU to be odds on to win this game, so the price for the home win looks good to me. Smolevichi has struggled to adapt to the Premier League, and I don’t see this game as being the one where it manages to achieve its first win.

Energetik vs. Smolevichi Match Preview

Energetik-BGU started the ball rolling on the opening day of the season when it beat BATE 3-1 and heralded a new year with a bunch of surprise results. Two more wins followed, and suddenly, the Students were making everyone sit up and take notice. But three consecutive defeats have given the league table a more conventional look again.

The latest defeat was a comprehensive 3-0 reverse against Neman, and that made it three games without registering a single goal as well. Energetik-BGU visibly tired towards the end (somewhat ironically given its name) and allowed Neman to score all its goals in the last 15 minutes. A renewed effort is needed here if that great start isn’t to be wasted.

The good news for Energetik-BGU is that Smolevichi is finding things very tough in the top flight this season. The minnows from just outside the capital at least managed to score a goal in its home defeat to Dinamo Minsk. But the visitors were already 3-0 up by then and had the game won.

A crumb of comfort for Smolevichi boss Aleksandr Brazevich is that his side has not completely capitulated yet and is only conceding just over a goal a game on average. But with just three goals of its own to celebrate in six games, the attacking players in the squad really need to step up soon.

Prediction and Betting Pick

  • Energetik-BGU to Win

A win here would catapult Energetik-BGU back into the top positions in the league, and although that position would be slightly flattering, it would be just what the young squad deserves after the way it started the season. Mid-table seems to be a more natural habitat, but that would be an improvement on last year, and three points against Smolevichi here should be easily achievable.
