Early Shevchenko vs. Andrade Betting Odds and Analysis

| March 1, 2021 8:12 am PDT

Valentina Shevchenko’s next fight goes down at UFC 261 on April 24 for the UFC women’s flyweight title.

Shevchenko’s next opponent? Why, it’s none other than former strawweight champ, Jessica Andrade.

The Brazilian will be aiming to become just the second two-weight world champion in UFC history. What a feat that would be.

I’ll be looking at the odds for Shevchenko vs. Andrade and providing a little analysis to boot. You’ll find the Shevchenko vs. Andrade tale of the tape, and a little more to help you get to grips with this interesting matchup.

So, stay with me for all of that.

However, if you’re betting on Shevchenko vs. Andrade, please feel free to head over to the best MMA betting apps to check things out. I would recommend reading my take on this first, but it’s your call!

I’m going to start things off by breaking down the Shevchenko vs. Andrade betting odds.

Let’s go.

Early Odds for Shevchenko vs. Andrade

  • Shevchenko -335
  • Andrade +225

BetOnline has released odds for Valentina Shevchenko vs. Jessica Andrade.

Shevchenko’s odds to beat Andrade make her the favorite to win at UFC 261, and that’s exactly what I was expecting.

With that said, I think the line for Shevchenko vs. Andrade will look more lopsided soon.

I’m predicting the line will close at -650 for Shevchenko, at the very least, and around the +350 for Andrade. That seems a fair estimate based on previous trends and experience of betting on Shevchenko fights.

For example, in Shevchenko’s last fight, she opened at -750 against Jennifer Maia before closing at -2500 on the night of UFC 255 in November 2020. That’s a lot of pulling power.

She is one of the most dominant fighters in the UFC and is a very popular choice among bettors.

I don’t find Andrade’s odds to beat Shevchenko appealing at all. Stylistically, I think this is a bad fight for her and she’s in for a long night against the champ.

How Shevchenko Can Beat Andrade

Shevchenko is one of the best technicians in MMA history. Period.

Naturally, UFC bettors are going to gravitate towards her whenever she fights. She is a highly accomplished striker with fantastic fundamentals, as well as devastating speed, accuracy, and general movement.

The early Shevchenko vs. Andrade odds are clear that she is the more superior fighter, according to the bookies.

Even if the betting line is only hinting at how dominant she could be in this fight, there’s no doubt who the gambling favorite for Shevchenko vs. Andrade is.

The earlier you take Shevchenko’s odds to beat Andrade, the better price you will get. It’s that simple.

The UFC women’s flyweight queen is the longer and more cerebral of the pair, and fights from a southpaw stance. She will use her diverse bag of tricks to incapacitate Andrade by breaking her down incrementally.

Naturally, if she sees an early opening, Shevchenko could make a calculated risk and go for the stoppage.

You can never rule that out with a fighter that can crush like The Bullet.

She knows the Brazilian is very strong on the inside and in the clinch. She likes to walk her opponents down, cutting the cage off with the threat of explosive swings.

Her main goal here is to push them up against the fence before using her explosive strength and power to bore holes in the woman opposite.

But “The Bullet” has the movement, timing, and distance management skills to keep Andrade guessing.

The more she can make “Bate Estaca” swing and miss, the more Andrade will grow frustrated, abandon her gameplan, and effectively fight Shevchenko’s way.

I have previously provided Shevchenko analysis in the form of a breakdown of her strengths and weaknesses. I’d suggest giving it a read to help you, especially if you are wagering on Shevchenko vs. Andrade to win real money.

The Strengths and Weaknesses of Valentina Shevchenko

Valentina Shevchenko is the consummate mixed martial artist. We live in a time when both hyperbole and over-exaggeration are par for the course. But the Kyrgyzstan-born fighter consistently lives up to the hype, despite the immense pressure that is on her...

How Can Andrade Beat Shevchenko?

First off, can Andrade beat Shevchenko?

Well, that is a possibility. She is a former UFC strawweight world champion with significant power, great cardio, and a lot of strength.

Her intentions will be to get inside Shevchenko and deny her the space to create opportunities. Knowing The Bullet creates a lot of her offense from defense, this is easier said than done.

Andrade is more effective with striking from boxing range, preferring to blast off short with hooks when inside. She does tend to telegraph her shots and her attacks aren’t exactly created from the most imaginative of angles. She is a brawler, first and foremost, that will be hoping to catch Shevchenko cold.

Katlyn Chookagian – UFC Fight Night 180 – KO Round 1
Rose Namajunas – UFC 237 – KO Round 1
Karolina Kowalkiewicz – UFC 228 – KO Round 1
Joanne Calderwood – UFC 203 – Submission Round 1
Jessica Penne – UFC 199 – TKO Round 2
Larissa Pacheco – UFC Fight Night 51 – Submission Round 1

Another area where Andrade will be looking to test the champ is on the ground.

But in order to take her down, the Brazilian will have to find a way inside her opponent. Anyone looking at the early odds for Shevchenko vs. Andrade, and thinking of gambling on Andrade to win, will be hoping that she can work her way in.

Now, this is easier said than done. It doesn’t mean that Andrade won’t be able to hit her, of course, but Shevchenko’s elusiveness and defensive acumen will make her a much harder target.

If she lands though…

Andrade’s Key Skills

  • Submissions

The betting odds for Andrade will grow closer to fight night.

So, if you are looking to bet on Andrade at UFC 261, you’ll be hoping that she can get the upper hand in this fight by way of the best tools in her arsenal.

Are you betting on Andrade to beat Shevchenko? If you are, you’re certainly going against popular opinion.

There is no doubt that she has a chance, of course.

Who Will Win Between Shevchenko and Andrade?

I won’t make my betting pick for Shevchenko vs. Andrade just yet.

I’ll leave that closer to the fight.

But as I said above, you’ll get the best odds for Shevchenko to beat Andrade the earlier you bet. So, if you’re already convinced by what you have read above, think about making your move sooner rather than later.

If your early inclination is to take a gamble on Andrade, holding off would be a better idea. Her odds will almost certainly improve closer to fight night.
