There are some big games in Nicaragua this week, and this is definitely one of them. The most decorated club in the country’s history welcomes a Walter Ferretti side coming off the back of an incredible 7-0 win over Chinandega at the start of the week.

With both clubs looking good for the playoffs, now might be the time to make a statement to the rest of the league. A win for Diriangen would consolidate its position in the top three, while Walter Ferretti would really open up the table if it took the points here.

After that impressive goal haul on matchday 12, it is a little surprising that online sportsbook BetOnline has Walter Ferretti’s odds still relatively long for the victory. There is a quick turnaround in games this week for the club from Managua, but that price is tempting. Diriangen has been impressive at home in the Clausura, though, so maybe the draw is a better bet.

Diriangen’s season has stalled somewhat over the past week, with a surprise draw with Las Sabanas followed by a loss to new league leaders Managua. This game would seem to be a perfect opportunity for the Caciques to make a play for the top spots in the league.

The win in Managua against Walter Ferretti earlier in the campaign came near the start of Diriangen’s nine-game unbeaten run, and a victory here would get its championship hopes back on track before the playoffs begin.

Walter Ferretti fans are probably still celebrating the 7-0 win against Chinandega. The visitors may have had a man sent off just before the break, but the scoreline was almost unprecedented in the Nicaraguan league where goals are not always so forthcoming.

Concentration will be key if Walter Ferretti is to come away from Diriamba with anything, however. The hosts have only conceded in one game during the Clausura and boast the stingiest defense in the entire league.

I’m torn between going for a home win or the draw here, but I’m going for the latter thanks to the more attractive odds. I don’t think Walter Ferretti can repeat that goal-fest performance from the other day, but the team’s confidence will be high. So a share of the spoils might be a realistic outcome for what should be a very good game.
