Dinamo Minsk vs. Slutsk Betting Preview – Belarusian Premier League, May 2
The traditional powerhouse of Belarusian soccer takes on this season’s surprise league leaders this week as Slutsk travels to the capital to take on the once-mighty Dinamo Minsk.
Slutsk has surprised everyone this season but has deserved its position at the top of the table. Whether it can keep this form up is the interesting question. Dinamo Minsk will be hoping that this weekend is the beginning of the decline, and you can read all about my take on the match in this Dinamo Minsk vs. Slutsk betting preview.
Online sportsbook BetOnline makes Dinamo Minsk the favorites here, and that is understandable even if the difference in pricing of the two teams is probably a little larger than I would have expected. Slutsk has played tremendously well so far this season, but everyone is waiting for the wheels to fall off. Dinamo might be able to kick-start that fall from grace.
Dinamo Minsk vs. Slutsk Match Preview
Although I described Dinamo Minsk as the powerhouse of Belarusian soccer, that moniker is largely down to its status during the Soviet era and the early years of the Premier League. Even before BATE took over as the dominant side, Dinamo had had to make do with being one of the also-rans, finishing in the top two or three. Last year’s fourth-place finish suggested that a major upheaval was needed.
There were a lot of new arrivals in the offseason, and that might have been the reason behind the poor start to the campaign. But recent results have been better, with the 3-1 victory over Smolevichi last weekend a very convincing way to make it three wins in its last four games. Slutsk will be a tougher nut to crack, but there are signs of a Dinamo resurgence now.
Slutsk’s position at the top of the league sums up the way the Belarusian 2020 season has started. But it is less surprising when you look at who it has had to play so far. Only the fixtures with Shakhtyor Soligorsk and Dynamo Brest would have been regarded as hard games, and those two have hardly begun this season in the best form anyway.
The most recent win against Belshina suggested that this Slutsk team does have the determination and the fight to be competitive this season, but the league leaders allowed the bottom-placed side to come back from two goals down to almost snatching a point. Only a second from Mohammed Bala three minutes from time saved the points for Slutsk. It could be that Slutsk’s time in the spotlight is coming to an end.
Dinamo Minsk vs. Slutsk Pick
Dinamo Minsk to Win-157
I have a feeling that there will be a lot of people looking at the Belarusian Premier League table and predicting another Slutsk win for this weekend. But that would be without taking into account the way these two have played in recent weeks and, more importantly, who they have played. It is a shame that BetOnline has not been similarly fooled into thinking that Slutsk can beat anyone this season, as better odds for a home win would make the wager even more tempting.
