Deportivo Las Sabanas vs. Real Madriz Pick – Nicaragua Primera Division, April 1, 2020

Las Sabanas looks to salvage some pride from a disappointing Clausura as it welcomes Real Madriz to town. But the visitors will still feel as though there is a real chance to make the playoffs this season and will be expecting to go home with all three points.

Real Madriz enjoyed its biggest win of the season in the reverse fixture earlier on in the campaign and should be able to repeat that performance against a struggling Las Sabanas that has not won a game since the first days of February.

Bookmaker BetOnline has this game much closer than I imagined and seems to think that home advantage might help a Las Sabanas side that has not profited from that factor in quite a while. Real Madriz is just about the only team in the league that doesn’t usually draw games, so I’m not sure the price there is worth it, either.

The surprise of Las Sabanas’ Apertura season seems a long time ago now, as it languishes at the foot of the table in the second half of the year. Just one win from 12 games has the club seven points from the top six, but it would seem unlikely that a gap of that magnitude could be made up.

Another defeat at the weekend — this time away at Real Esteli — continued the misery. But the narrow 1-0 scoreline might give the players some much-needed confidence going into this one.

Real Madriz’ win over Deportivo Ocotal on matchday 11 was crucial in its hopes of making it into the top six at the end of the season. Bordas Lester left it late to make sure of the points in the 2-0 victory, but it definitely kept Madriz in the hunt.

The game between these two earlier in the season at the Estadio Solidaridad Augusto Cesar Mendoza ended in a procession for Real Madriz, and a few more goals against Las Sabanas should be expected this week.

Real Madriz may have only won one game away from home during the Clausura, but Las Sabanas looks there for the taking at the moment. Real Esteli did struggle to make its superiority pay at the weekend, but if Madriz can get an early goal, the heads could drop quite quickly throughout the home team.
