Las Sabanas hauled itself off of the bottom of the table in the week thanks to a draw with Jalapa and is all but out of the playoff race. But there is still pride to play for ahead of this game with Managua.

The league leaders seem to be enjoying the rest of clubs struggling to keep up as the Clausura regular season draws to a close. This fixture could be tougher than the table suggests, however, and you can get my thoughts on it below in this Deportivo Las Sabanas vs. Managua FC betting preview.

Managua is the big favorite here, and that is understandable given its position in the league and recent form. But could there be the possibility of a Las Sabanas surprise? The club from near the Honduras border has picked up a few points recently and might be in the mood for some more mischief-making.

Las Sabanas managed a 0-0 draw in the week when it faced Jalapa, and that makes it just one defeat in the last six games in what has been the club’s most successful period of the Clausura season. Most of the games have been drawn, but that’s better than nothing.

Local rivals Deportivo Ocotal replaced Las Sabanas at the foot of the table thanks to that point, and there might even be a renewed hope of making the playoffs, as it did in the Apertura.

But Managua is a different proposition than the type of opposition Las Sabanas has faced recently. The league leaders survived a stoppage time scare against Ocotal on Wednesday to pick up three more points and continued its unbeaten streak to nine games. There won’t be many that don’t expect that run to extend to ten this weekend.

After losing to Real Esteli in the Apertura final, Managua will want to give itself as much chance of making the playoffs as easy a ride as possible. A top-two finish could be guaranteed with a win against Las Sabanas, so expect head coach Emilio Aburto to put out an attacking side for this one.

Even at these odds — and with Managua playing away from home — there is not much to convince me that the best team in the country during the Clausura won’t go on to win another game in Las Sabanas. Deportivo could run the league leaders close, but this should go down as an away win.
