Daily Fantasy Basketball Sleepers For Friday, January 17th
Thursday night was bonkers, as seemingly every high-priced or intermediate option went off. Suffice to say, if you had the right guys mixed in with my NBA DFS sleepers, you were sitting pretty.
It’s fun to bask in your glory of a successful night, but we can’t waste much time with Friday’s seven-game slate awaiting us. Hit up the best NBA sportsbooks for the latest lines and see which daily fantasy basketball value picks I like for tonight at DraftKings:
Best NBA DFS Point Guard Sleepers
- Dejounte Murray – San Antonio Spurs ($5.4k)
- Darius Garland – Cleveland Cavaliers ($5.1k)
- Shabazz Napier – Minnesota Timberwolves ($5k)
I can’t really quit Murray. Yes, his run is unreliable, but he’s dirt cheap given his upside and a date with the pathetic Hawks is to die for.
Darius Garland keeps getting good run for the Cavs and is scoring at a solid rate. He’ll be in play at this price against a bad Grizzlies defense.
My favorite point guard value is Napier, though. He’s getting right around 30 minutes and could see his role grow from here with Jeff Teague traded to the Hawks recently. His matchup against the Pacers stinks, but hopefully the departure of Teague locks him into a strong role.
Top NBA DFS Shooting Guard Sleepers
- Norm Powell – Toronto Raptors ($5.5k)
- Tim Hardaway Jr. – Dallas Mavericks ($5.1k)
- Matisse Thybulle – Philadelphia 76ers ($4k)
Powell is healthy and pushing for 30 minutes a night again for the Raptors. That won’t be a huge deal for long, but Fred VanVleet is still sidelined and a juicy matchup with a terrible Wizards defense awaits.
Kristaps Porzingis still isn’t back, which obviously keeps Luka Doncic within striking distance of god level, but also could make the Mavs a source of value. One guy to consider is THJ, who can shoot for 30 minutes and a nice usage rate.
The best value at this spot may end up being Thybulle, who has logged 27+ minutes in each of his last two outings. His offensive game still has a way to go, but he gets defensive stats and is getting nice run with Joel Embiid still out.
NBA DFS Small Forward Value Picks
- T.J. Warren – Indiana Pacers ($5.3k)
- Cedi Osman – Cleveland Cavaliers ($4.7k)
- Kent Bazemore – Portland Trail Blazers ($4.6k)
T.J. Warren is incredibly inconsistent, but tonight he’s also pretty cheap. I’ll gladly take the discount against a weak Timberwolves defense.
I’m not a huge fan of Cedi Osman’s game, but he has a good role in Cleveland and usually plays 30+ minutes. He can get it going offensively and feels like a solid value in a plus spot against Memphis.
Small forward has some nice value up top, but the best cheap play could be the menacing Kent Bazemore. He’s very tough to trust, but he has a 30+ minute role and did just drop 32 fantasy points in his last game.
Best NBA DFS Power Forward Sleepers
- Davis Bertans – Washington Wizards ($5.3k)
- OG Anunoby – Toronto Raptors ($5.2k)
- Mike Muscala – Oklahoma City Thunder ($4.9k)
Washington has been limiting both Bertans and Bradley Beal after they returned from injuries, so we definitely need to be cautious with these guys. That said, Bertans is too cheap for his role and if he can come close to 30 minutes, I don’t mind taking a flier on him in GPPs.
On the other side of this Wizards vs. Raptors game is my preferred play in OG Anunoby. Toronto is down FVV right now and this kid will get his fair share of minutes. BetOnline has this game total at a healthy 229, so I will be actively looking for the right Toronto player to roster tonight.
I don’t have a ton of faith in Muscala – especially at this price – but he could hold onto a sizable role if Nerlens Noel is out again tonight.
Top NBA DFS Center Sleepers
- Gorgui Dieng – Minnesota Timberwolves ($5.6k)
- Dwight Powell – Dallas Mavericks ($5.1k)
- Damian Jones – Atlanta Hawks ($4k)
Karl-Anthony Towns could return tonight, but if he’s again out we need to consider Dieng. His role has been all over the place lately, but his most recent contest saw him return to fantasy relevance.
There’s also Powell, who could smash again if Zinger stays out. Powell is a great price and faces a bad Blazers defense that has had difficulty stopping big men.
I also don’t mind Damian Jones, as Alex Len is out again and the Hawks will need his size.
It’s too early to feel amazing about this slate, as there are a lot of superstars worth paying up for, but we can’t know for sure just how much value we have to work with.
There are still some solid salary savers to start with, but unless the floodgates open up and we get some elite punts, rolling out Luka Doncic seems a bit too ambitious.
Build your NBA DFS lineups how you prefer, but this could end up being more of a balanced slate for me. Regardless of which way you go, hopefully these daily fantasy basketball sleepers find you well.
