Two of the better teams in K League 1 come together on Sunday as Daegu entertains Ulsan Hyundai, with the visitors having the chance to go top of the league if Jeonbuk falters on Saturday.
Daegu has impressed in particular in the last few weeks, and its pre-season promise is definitely beginning to materialize. Keep reading for my full Daegu vs. Ulsan Hyundai prediction and betting pick.
Odds for Daegu vs. Ulsan Hyundai
Daegu to Win+190
Ulsan Hyundai to Win+150
BetOnline is going with Ulsan to have a very good chance of coming away from Daegu this weekend with another three points, but I’m not quite as sure that the home side is there for the beating. The Sky Blues have played some very good soccer recently, and the price for a home win — or the draw — looks good.
Daegu vs. Ulsan Hyundai Match Preview
After Cesinha was rested for the majority of the cup game last week, the Brazilian returned for the league fixture with Gwangju, orchestrating a second-half comeback that gave his side the points. He even popped up in the last minute to add to his personal goal tally, and he is looking like the league MVP at the moment.
Three goals in the first ten minutes of the second half won the game, with veteran Dejan Damjanovich bagging a brace in the process. Now Daegu welcomes Ulsan to its home stadium full of confidence and looking like it could be the one that challenges the top two in the second half of the regular season.
Ulsan’s defeat to Jeonbuk a couple of weeks ago was a huge disappointment for the Horangi as the reigning champions had been unconvincing and it had looked like the time was right to take over at the top. A very comfortable 4-1 win at home against bottom-of-the-table Incheon was the perfect way to come back from that, but this game is much more of a test.
Manager Kim Do-hoon will know that dropping any points from now on will give Jeonbuk a massive advantage but that beating Daegu away from home is going to be very difficult. Striker Junior will be looked at as the main focus of attack, and he will hope to add to an already impressive goal haul of 12.
Prediction and Pick
Daegu to Win
The draw is probably the safer bet here and still comes with some attractive looking odds, but Daegu is looking so good at the moment that I think the better value is actually to back the Sky Blues at home for the win. Cesinha has been incredible so far this season and could be the one that influences how this game goes as well.
