Man Utd +175
Inter Milan +325
Sevilla +500
Bayer Leverkusen +600
Wolves +600
Shakhtar Donetsk 1200

Their attacking trio is a huge threat, but there are plenty of teams that can beat them in one game. The likes of Inter and Wolverhampton, as well as Bayer Leverkusen and Sevilla are a huge threat.

EL Predictions

Before I share my Europa League predictions, let me make two quick disclaimers. The first one is what you see here is my expectations of what’s going to happen. They can serve as some pointers, but they are not betting picks. There is a separate section for that, where I factor the latest Europa League betting odds, too.

The second disclaimer is that I will keep my predictions updated based on the latest event, so you can come back after every round to find out my Europa League tips for the futures and outrights.

Europa League Winner Prediction

  • Manchester United to win the 2020 Europa League

There’s little doubt that Manchester United is the strongest team left, and the Red Devils playing against one of the worst teams left in Europa League’s Last 8. They have been excellent since the restart of the English Premier League, especially on the attacking end.

Paul Pogba looks good on his return, the young trio up front is devastating, and Bruno Fernandes has picked where he left off before the break. The only concern is David De Gea’s form, and that could be a problem in a single-leg elimination format.

Europa League Last 8 Predictions

  • Manchester United to advance vs Copenhagen

The clash between Manchester United and Copenhagen is arguably the most one-sided quarterfinal. The Red Devils are way better than their opponents and the main favorite for the Europa League trophy.

They have the superior squad and even if the manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decides to rotate and give some of his players rest, that shouldn’t be a problem.

  • Inter Milan to advance vs. Bayer Leverkusen

This tie is probably the toughest to predict and I’m not sure what to expect. Both sides have strong teams and will be eager to fight for the trophy. It seems that Inter has the better players on paper, so I’m backing the Italians, but it should be close.

  • Sevilla to advance vs. Wolverhampton

I underestimated Sevilla in the previous round and it was an obvious mistake. The Spanish side’s quality and the good traditions in the Europa League make them a threat to anyone.

If you add Wolverhampton’s inconsistent form since the restart of European soccer, it’s hard to see anything else but a win for Sevilla here.

  • Shakhtar Donetsk to advance vs. Basel

Basel was impressive in both games against Eintracht Frankfurt and the team shouldn’t be underestimated. And yet, Shakhtar looked like a juggernaut against Wolfsburg and the Ukrainians certainly will be aiming high in the Europa League.

I expect a deep run for Shakhtar and Basel doesn’t look like the side that could stop the Ukrainians on the way to the semifinals.

Europa League Betting Picks

This is where I intend to share my Europa League betting picks throughout the tournament. Similarly to the predictions section, there will be regular updates based on the latest odds and news regarding the tournament.

Here’s what I have for you right now.

Pick
  • Sevilla to beat Wolves
    +128

It’s hard to overlook the price of almost +130 for Sevilla to beat Wolves based on what we’ve seen recently. The Spanish side’s ability to control the tempo against Roma was extremely impressive and I believe we’ll see more of the same in the last 8.

You would normally expect a similar approach by the Wolves, but the English team has struggled since the rest of the English Premier League. It will be hard against Sevilla and the Spaniards are simply better right now.

Pick
  • Shakhtar Donetsk to beat Basel
    +108

I believe that Shakhtar is one of the dark horses of the 2020 Europa League and the team had a favorable draw for the quarterfinals. Basel is a solid opponent that demolished Eintracht Frankfurt, but the Germans have been inconsistent this season and can’t play well against teams that defend well.

The next clash will be much harder for Basel and the Ukrainians should be able to dominate the ball and create chances. The first goal will be crucial, but I believe that Shakhtar is the favorite here and can get the job done.”

UEFA Europa League Restart Format and Key Dates for 2020

We’ve had an official announcement by UEFA in June that the Europa League would be coming back in August and that the competition will finish. The format is quite different than what we’re used to, though, so let’s take a look at what’s going to happen by the end of the tournament.

The first step would be to finish the Last 16. There are six ties which completed the first leg, so they will continue as usual with a second clash, and the winners will be determined by the aggregate score.

Here are the dates for these six fixtures.

Wednesday, 8/5 – 6:55 pm CET

  • Shakhtar Donetsk vs. Wolfsburg
  • Copenhagen vs. Istanbul Basaksehir

Wednesday, 8/5 – 9:00 pm CET

  • Manchester United vs. LASK

Thursday, 8/6 – 6:55 pm CET

  • Leverkusen vs. Rangers

Thursday, 8/6 – 9:00 pm CET

  • Basel vs. Eintracht Frankfurt
  • Wolves vs. Olympiacos

There are also two ties that were postponed before the first games were played. UEFA decided that they should take place in a single-game elimination format at neutral venues in Duisburg, Germany. Here are the starting times.

Wednesday, 8/5 – 9:00 pm CET

  • Inter Milan vs. Getafe

Thursday, 8/6 – 6:55 pm CET

  • Sevilla vs. Roma

Once the round of 16 is completed, the remaining teams will play in the so-called Europa League 2020 Final Eight event. Each clash will be a single-leg elimination on neutral venues in Germany, instead of two games.

The competition will be over by August 21st, according to UEFA’s plans. Here are the dates for the last three stages of the 2020 Europa League.

  • Last 8 – August 10-11th
  • Semifinals – August 16-17th
  • Final – August 21st

All Europa League betting plans you might have should take into account the changes. The lack of fans and the single-leg format are the key here. They open the door to more surprises, and the games should be closer.

Latest News and Updates

It’s clear now that that Chris Smalling won’t be part of Roma’s squad for the rest of the competition. The English defender was forced to return to Manchester United, as both clubs failed to extend his loan deal.
July 31st
UEFA published an interesting article that sums up the performance of all teams that will be involved in the Europa League several days ago, and I certainly recommend you read it. It’s a good starting point for anyone who intends to bet on the competition.
