Ciampa to Beat Cole and Other NXT Takeover Portland Picks
This week’s WWE event will take place in Portland. The NXT Takeover features plenty of exciting matches and several titles on the line. The likes of Tommaso Ciampa, Adam Cole, Keith Lee, Finn Balor, Rhea Ripley, and others will be part of the show.
Here are my 2020 NXT Takeover Portland predictions and analysis.
Ciampa to Beat Cole
I don’t see any other way to start my NXT Takeover picks but with the main fight between Tommaso Ciampa and Adam Cole.
We all knew this one was going to happen as Ciampa never technically lost the NXT Takeover title. He has been eager to get Goldie back, and since Adam Cole is the one holding it, the championship match between those two was inevitable.
The belt will be on the line, and the question here is what WWE wants to do with the wrestlers. I believe that Ciampa’s development has reached a stage of his career in which the championship makes a lot of sense again.
That’s why I’m going to back him. Cole should receive an opportunity to get revenge somewhere in the future.
Ripley to Beat Belair
The next of my NXT Takeover Portland predictions is dedicated to the Women’s NXT Championship. Rhea Ripley just earned the title, and she will have to defend it against Bianca Belair.
The contender earned the right to challenge after several impressive performances recently, including a run at the 2020 Royal Rumble that saw her eliminate eight opponents.
I believe that the WWE has been building her as a strong challenge for Ripley, but I think the champion is the one that will be pushed even further. Her story needs more time at the top, so I think we will see a victory for Rhea Ripley over Belair.
Kai to Beat Nox
One of the more interesting storylines that will see another chapter in NXT Takeover Portland is the one that involves Dakota Kai and Tegan Nox. Those two will be involved in a street fight, and I believe the WWE might be setting them up for a trilogy down the road.
It all started after Kai betrayed her former teammate, and Nox got her revenge in a January fight. The audience loved this once, so I can certainly see a win for Kai and a third fight somewhere in the near future for those two.
Dijakovic to Beat Lee
Another title will be on the line in Portland, and I’m talking about the NXT North American Championship. Reigning champ Keith Lee will face Dominik Dijakovic, and those two know how to pump the crowd.
Most people expect to see the belt with Lee at the end of the bout, but I think this might be one of the surprises that WWE has for us.
A victory for Dijakovic will open the door to a rematch soon, so backing the contender here seems like a good idea.
Balor to Beat Gargano
Another match from the fight card features the first-time clash between Finn Balor and Johnny Gargano. They were supposed to fight in Takeover: WarGames, but the latter had a neck injury.
But it was only a matter of time before we would see them against each other. I’m having a bit of trouble picking a winner here, but I believe that Balor’s trajectory requires a victory more than Gargano’s. He is one of the guys who should be chasing the NXT title soon, and he needs to build some hype.
The Undisputed Era to Beat the BroserWeights
I finish my NXT Takeover Portland predictions with the tag team match between the Undisputed Era (Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly) and the BroserWeights (Matt Riddle and Pete Dunne).
The champions are the favorites here, and I think they will retain their belts. Riddle and Dunne put a strong display in the 2020 Dusty Rhodes Classic, but I think it’s a bit early for them to beat the Undisputed Era.
A dramatic loss here works for both teams and opens the door for another match in the future, so I will back Fish and O’Reilly to win this one.
