Borussia Monchengladbach vs. Wolfsburg Betting Preview – Bundesliga, June 16

These two clubs sit next to each other in the league table but have vastly different aspirations for the rest of the season.

Borussia Monchengladbach is looking for the points to help with finishing in the top four, while Wolfsburg is concentrating on making one of the Europa League spots its own.

I’m a little surprised that the online betting sites have not made Monchengladbach an odds on favorite to win this one. But with both sides battling for all the points it can, it makes sense that the game is so closely priced.

Wolfsburg has looked good recently, so the more adventurous might want to look at the draw or the away win.

Borussia Monchengladbach only just missed out on the Champions League last season and is desperate not to repeat that disappointment this year. But results have not been fantastic since the restart – and a few more wins in the last three games are needed.

There was almost a point won from the game with Bayern at the weekend, before Leon Goretzka popped up right at the death to break Monchengladbach hearts. With both Lewandowski and Muller suspended it looked like there was a chance for the visitors to record a positive result. But it was not to be.

Now Die Fohlen must raise its game again to see off the challenge of a Wolfsburg side who has made sixth place its own for quite a while now and should be able to finish in one of the three Europa League places now on offer. The battle is not won yet though, so this promises to be an intriguing encounter.

Much of Wolfsburg’s threat will come from Wout Weghorst, who scored another brace in the draw with Freiburg on Saturday evening. The Dutch striker thought he had given his team the win before the visitors scored two either side of half time for the game to end in a very fair draw.

Monchengladbach will need to keep a close eye on Wout Weghorst but I fancy the home side to win the three points that would keep the pressure on Bayer Leverkusen as they run their own personal race for the fourth Champions League place.

It will be a huge loss if Marcus Thuram misses out after going off after just ten minutes of the game against Bayern, but the win is still very possible.
