Borussia Monchengladbach vs. Union Berlin Betting Preview – Bundesliga, May 31
After two disappointing results in a week, it looks as though Borussia Monchengladbach’s title aspirations have been dealt a hammer blow. Die Fohlen now welcome Union Berlin on Sunday.
One of the smaller clubs in the Bundesliga, Union has not enjoyed the best of times since the restart either and will be looking for points to help with its own battle against relegation. I’ve provided my Borussia Monchengladbach vs. Union Berlin prediction and betting pick below.
Odds for Borussia Monchengladbach vs. Union Berlin
Although Monchengladbach’s title challenge is surely all but over, it will still be looking to pick up enough points to make sure Champions League qualification is achieved this year. So it is not hard to see why bookmaker BetOnline has the home side as favorite for the win here. Union could be in for a tough time on Sunday afternoon.
Borussia Monchengladbach vs. Union Berlin Preview
From leading the way earlier in the season, it now looks as though Borussia Monchengladbach will have to be content with a top four finish and the Champions League soccer that will bring next season. The loss to Bayer Leverkusen last weekend was a blow, but the goalless draw with Werder Bremen on Tuesday was a major disappointment.
If anything it was Werder Bremen who looked more likely to score a goal and one point ended up being more than Monchengladbach might have deserved. Manager Marco Rose will need to work out how to lift his players now, as there is still a lot to play for over the final six games.
Union Berlin managed to win back some pride after the mauling at the hands of Hertha, with a draw with fellow strugglers Mainz on Wednesday. From looking just about safe before the extended break, Die Eisernen is now definitely involved in a relegation fight.
Although Union will probably escape an automatic drop down, that relegation play off spot is now an unwanted center of attention for Urs Fischer and his players. Every game at the moment is a “must not lose” rather than a “must win,” perhaps, but the fight and determination from earlier in the season needs to be found quickly.
Borussia Monchengladbach to Win-200
Union might have come back from the shambles of the Berlin derby defeat, but going to Monchengladbach and coming away with anything is a tall order. I fully expect the Berlin side to fight every last challenge from now on, but there is too much talent in the home team that still needs to play well to ensure a top-four finish. This should end in a Monchengladbach victory.
