After the loss to Bayern Munich a few weeks ago, it doesn’t seem likely that Dortmund will be able to claim the Bundesliga crown after all. But there are good signs for next year’s challenge already.
Hertha stands in its way this weekend. That would not have been much of a threat before the break, but now the Berlin club is one of the form teams in the league. This could be one of the games of the day, and you can find out my full thoughts on this match below with my Borussia Dortmund vs. Hertha Berlin prediction and betting pick.
Odds for Borussia Dortmund vs. Hertha Berlin
Borussia Dortmund to Win-298
Hertha Berlin to Win+614
Can Bruno Labbadia inspire another Hertha miracle? The new manager at the Olympiastadion has turned around the club to the point that there have even been mentions of a possible Europa League qualification. The draw with Leipzig suggests anything can happen now with Hertha, so the odds for a draw might not be as outlandish as they first seem.
Borussia Dortmund vs. Hertha Berlin Preview
Losing twice to Bayern Munich over the course of the season without scoring a single goal probably means that Dortmund was never good enough to stop the Bavarian giant cruising to yet another title. But with the addition of Erling Braut Haaland, things could be very interesting next year, especially if players such as Jadon Sancho stick around.
The thrashing of Paderborn last weekend showed that Dortmund has no time for any more surprise results, so that would suggest that Hertha’s mini revival will be halted at the Westfalenstadion on Saturday. This game will be much closer than it would have been two months ago, but Dortmund looks very good at the moment.
But Hertha has not been that bad, either. That is something of an understatement, actually, as the Old Lady has completely turned around its fortunes under new boss Bruno Labbadia and seen players like Matheus Cunha and Vedad Ibisevic take control of games. Even misfiring striker Krzysztof Piatek has started scoring again.
The draw with RB Leipzig showed that the other victories over Hoffenheim and Union Berlin were no fluke, and that was followed up with last weekend’s win against Augsburg. That game was more even than expected, but Hertha obviously feels like it can beat anyone these days.
Prediction and Pick
Borussia Dortmund to Win
It is very tempting, but surely Hertha can’t keep its good form going and actually beat Borussia Dortmund in its own stadium? If Cunha is absent once again, that result will be even harder to attain, and I don’t think Dortmund will allow the Berliners to play with the kind of confidence that has been shown in the last few weeks. This could be an excellent game, but a home win seems to be the way to go.
