Borussia Dortmund vs. Bayern Munich Betting Preview – Bundesliga, May 26, 2020

If Bayern Munich wins at the Westfalenstadion on Tuesday evening, then there will not be many fans thinking that the Bundesliga title will be going anywhere but Bavaria for an eighth successive season.

Dortmund will know that at least a draw is crucial for its own championship aspirations, but a win would narrow the lead at the top to just one point and really open things up for the remaining six games.

I understand why BetOnline has made Bayern the favorite to come away from Dortmund with all three points, but that does make the odds for a home win or draw look very tempting. Dortmund has looked very impressive since returning to action and has a very good chance of getting something from this game, in my opinion.

The only surprising thing about Dortmund’s win at the weekend over Wolfsburg was that Erling Braut Haaland didn’t manage to get on the scoresheet. He allowed his side’s wingbacks get in on the action as what looked like a potentially tricky fixture was navigated without much trouble in the end.

That win kept the pressure on Bayern, as well as keeping a gap between it and RB Leipzig, and manager Lucien Favre knows that his players have an excellent chance to blow the title race wide open here. A home win would not be the biggest surprise of the season and Bayern will have to be on top form defensively right from the start.

There is, of course, plenty of defensive talent in the visiting team to deal with Dortmund’s attacking players. But Bayern does generally rely on the brilliance of its own forward play to make up for any problems at the back. A late flurry from Eintracht Frankfurt at the weekend was swatted away by two late goals that gave the game a 5-2 result in the end.

Bayern will also have to work out how to defend against Haaland for the first time. The Norwegian sensation may not have found the net against Wolfsburg, but he does have 13 goals from just 13 games in all competitions so far at Dortmund. If Bayern is able to stop him then it probably deserves the title.

When you look at the players that Bayern Munich has at its disposal, it is difficult to bet against the reigning champions. If it is not the league’s top scorer, Robert Lewandowski, finding the net again, it is new young stars like Alphonso Davies getting in on the action. But Dortmund has enough stars of its own, and I think that the Bundesliga title race has a few more twists and turns in store for us yet.
