Betting Preview for Stipe Miocic vs. Francis Ngannou 2
Just looking at the latest odds for Stipe Miocic vs. Francis Ngannou 2 has me stoked.
If you’re planning on betting on the Stipe vs. Ngannou rematch, I’m sure you’re feeling just as pumped ahead of this huge fight.
The action goes down on Saturday, March 27, at the UFC APEX. In addition to being the most highly anticipated rematch in heavyweight history, it’s also a great opportunity to make some money gambling on UFC 260.
The majority of the UFC 260 betting action will be on the main event, of course. So, I’ll be looking at the Stipe vs. Ngannou 2 line to pinpoint where the betting value is before providing a little analysis of how both match up.
Will Stipe score two wins over Ngannou, or is it time for “The Predator” to shine as the first African heavyweight champion in the history of the promotion?
Before I get into my thoughts heading into this one, I want to share the best UFC 260 odds for Stipe vs. Ngannou that I’ve found with you.
Best Stipe and Ngannou Odds
I’ve been doing some UFC 260 line shopping, as you can see from the prices above.
The top odds for Stipe to beat Ngannou are over at BetOnline. If you’re looking for where to find the best price for Ngannou to beat Stipe, head over to MyBookie.
As the UFC 260 odds for the main event suggest, this fight is tough to call. Although opening odds were a little questionable, the latest Miocic vs. Ngannou line is beginning to reflect this.
The Cameroonian opened as an even larger favorite than he did before the first fight between the pair back in January 2018. One of the best UFC betting sites had Ngannou’s odds to beat Miocic at -225, with Stipe +190 to win, which was… interesting.
It goes without saying that the betting value is with Stipe. I’m expecting that he will still enter this fight as a slight underdog on the night and for his odds to settle around the +110 to +120 mark by March 27.
Let’s see what shape he is in heading into UFC 260.
How Stipe Beats Ngannou
This is the third straight fight where Stipe Miocic enters as the betting underdog.
In fact, the fireman has been the dog in five of his last eight bouts. Considering he has won seven from his last eight, that’s not a bad return at all.
Stipe is still an underrated fighter, especially with MMA casuals. He’s not a flashy, obnoxious champion with a soundbite for every occasion. On the contrary, he is a humble, likable character that epitomizes the American blue-collar work ethic and pride in labor.
But more importantly, he is one of the most gifted heavyweights in mixed martial arts history. And this is what to keep in mind if you are betting on Stipe to beat Ngannou at UFC 260 on March 27.
Here’s Stipe’s record since winning the UFC heavyweight strap for the first time.
|Daniel Cormier||Win by Decision||UFC 252|
|Daniel Cormier||Win by TKO||UFC 241|
|Daniel Cormier||Loss by KO||UFC 226|
|Francis Ngannou||Win by Decision||UFC 220|
|Junior dos Santos||Win by TKO||UFC 211|
|Alistair Overeem||Win by KO||UFC 203|
If you were to ask why Stipe beats Ngannou, my first response would be that he’s done it before.
He has the psychological edge heading into this bout and is the more technical and cerebral of the pair.
One of the most impressive parts of Stipe Miocic’s game is his adaptability. He has a fantastic training setup with Marcus Marinelli and his team that gives him such an advantage over his opponents.
Strategically, Miocic has consistently brought the right game plan into fights, so it is hard to see him coming in cold against Ngannou this time.
Perceived as nothing more than a powerful knockout artist, the African knows that he will be up against the smarter, more technically gilded, and better-rounded opponent. Does power, alone, justify Ngannou’s right to be the betting favorite for UFC 260’s main event.
Psychology will play a big part in this fight. It doesn’t matter where UFC 260 is held. If Stipe’s mind is locked in, it’s going to be very difficult for Francis to get to him.
Stipe’s Best Attributes
- Ring IQ
I put together a piece that covers the strengths and weaknesses of Stipe Miocic.
Rather than expanding on his strengths here, you will find answers to any questions you have surrounding what he does well (and not so well) there.
How Ngannou Beats Stipe
The party line is that Ngannou has improved since losing to Stipe at UFC 220.
But let’s be honest here — has he really? I mean, where is the evidence?
Ngannou’s record in his last four fights is four wins by first-round KO. Heading into his first fight with Stipe back in January 2018, his record from his previous four was… four wins by way of first-round KO.
Before you look to capitalize on Ngannou’s odds to beat Stipe, it’s worth considering that we have no idea if he has improved since that loss. We know he hits like a truck, but he has not gone beyond the first round nor been pushed by anyone close to the champion’s level.
Picking at his four-fight streak, we can see that he starched an awesome heavyweight in Curtis Blaydes, albeit for the second time. But did Derrick Lewis’ recent KO of Blaydes somewhat tarnish that achievement?
Ngannou beat Cain Velasquez, but Cain was so over the hill that he was swimming in the valley below and subsequently retired after injuring himself in the bout.
A win over Junior dos Santos was about as surprising as snowfall in Siberia. His starching of Jairzinho Rozenstruik was awesome, but Rozenstruik’s timid loss against Cyril Gane recently has made it look less impressive.
Still, I’m not looking to play him down here. Ngannou can beat Stipe. In fact, Naggou can knock Stipe into another realm with just one shot. But he’s had little to no fighting time since losing by decision in the most boring fight in the history of mankind, and this could affect him at UFC 260.
The simple fact is that if he can’t land that shot on Stipe, he will be lost.
Ngannou’s Best Attributes
Everything you need to know about Francis Ngannou can be written on the back of a postage stamp.
He is the most powerful puncher to ever don gloves in a mixed martial arts contest. All Ngannou needs is to find his range and let loose. If he lands, it’s goodnight Irene.
But, what else does he offer? The short answer is nothing. His grappling and submission skills are not exactly lauded.
I guess when you possess one of the most terrifying punches in history, they don’t need to be, right?
Well, not unless you come up against a fighter as technically sound as Miocic.
