A win and a loss has been the start for both these clubs this season as the players get used to the new campaign. But it will be Shakhtyor who will be expected to be more successful this year after the performances of the last few seasons.
A home game gives Yurii Vernydub’s side the chance to consolidate its position as one of the best teams in the league, and it can look to last season’s convincing wins over Neman for inspiration.
I provide my take in this Shakhtyor Soligorsk vs. Neman Grodno betting preview.
Shakhtyor Soligorsk vs. Neman Grodno Odds
Shakhtyor Soligorsk to Win-302
Neman Grodno to Win+899
BetOnline has looked to the last few years’ performances of both teams to price this game, and the odds are to be expected considering Shakhtyor’s standing in the Belarusian game. This should end in a first home win of the season, but those prices for an away win or even a draw might tempt a few.
The opening day defeat to Torpedo for Shakhtyor Soligorsk was a bit of a surprise, but then there were more than a few shocks on matchday 1 as virtually all the big teams fell to smaller opposition. An away win against a misfiring Gorodeya side next up was the perfect response, and Shakhtyor is now the big favorite to pick up the three points here.
Darko Bodul should be given another chance to get off the mark this season up front, but Shakhtyor has a good midfield unit that can also weigh in with the goals if needed. This could be just the chance for the attacking players to work together and come up with some positive results.
Neman’s two goals soon after the break against Vitebsk last time out proved decisive, but only two other clubs scored fewer in the league last year, and a strong defensive performance is probably most needed against Shakhtyor. The defeat in the opening game against Isloch was more predictable, and it is fixtures like this one that Neman is more likely to lose as the season progresses.
Last year’s meetings between these two sides do not make for pleasant reading for Neman boss Igor Kovalovich. Nine goals conceded with none scored in just two games was a particular low, and there doesn’t seem to be enough strength in the squad to turn those defeats into victories this year.
Shakhtyor Soligorsk vs. Neman Grodno Pick
Shakhtyor Soligorsk to Win
The odds for a home win do not make for healthy winning returns, but it does seem to be the only conceivable outcome from this game. Neman’s position in the table is a false one due to the lack of games played so far, and I fully expect Shakhtyor to win this fixture and be involved around the top of the table for the majority of the season.
