Betting Preview for 2021 UEFA Champions League Quarter-Finals
As usual, the Champions League Round of 16 did not disappoint.
Porto stunned everyone by dumping Juventus out of the competition, while PSG advanced at the expense of Barcelona. Elsewhere, Liverpool managed to get the better of RB Leipzig, with Chelsea seeing off Atletico Madrid.
Defending UCL champion Bayern Munich also remains in the tournament, alongside Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Borussia Dortmund.
But are you ready to bet on the Champions League quarter-finals?
In this post, I share my predictions for every Champions League quarter-final tie. As well as looking at the odds for the UCL quarter-finals, I also check out the latest Champions League winner odds for 2021.
Let’s get right into it!
2021 Champions League Quarter-Final Draw
The 2021 UCL quarter-finals get underway on Tuesday, April 6, with Real Madrid hosting Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund visiting Manchester City. On Wednesday, April 7, Bayern Munich welcomes PSG, while Chelsea travels to Porto. The second legs will take place the following week.
Here is the Champions League quarter-final draw in full.
- Real Madrid vs. Liverpool
- Manchester City vs. Borussia Dortmund
- Bayern Munich vs. PSG
- Porto vs. Chelsea
As you can see, the quarter-final draw has dished up backstories and subplots galore. Bayern and PSG clash for a repeat of last season’s UCL final, while Liverpool will be seeking revenge on Real Madrid following the 2017/18 final.
Having been heavily linked with a move for Erling Haaland, Man City faces an intriguing battle against Dortmund. Chelsea arguably has the most favorable tie, although Porto showed everyone what they are capable of against Juventus.
Before we get into my Champions League quarter-final predictions, let’s take a look at the updated 2021 UCL winner odds.
Latest Champions League Winner Odds for 2021
Here are the latest odds for the Champions League winner in 2021.
Before the Round of 16, Bayern was the bookmakers’ favorite to win the Champions League in 2021. But as you can see, Man City has overtaken the German giant and is now the clear frontrunner.
With Thomas Tuchel working wonders at Chelsea, the Blues’ odds have dropped significantly in recent weeks. Liverpool is also expected to challenge for the trophy, as is PSG.
Real Madrid isn’t among the obvious favorites to clinch the crown, although you can’t write off the Spanish powerhouse altogether. In reality, Dortmund and Porto aren’t expected to upset the 2021 Champions League winner odds.
Right, let’s get stick into my UCL quarter-final predictions.
Predictions for Every Champions League Quarter-Final
In this section, I share my predictions for every Champions League quarter-final tie and look at the odds for each team to qualify for the semi-finals.
Real Madrid vs. Liverpool
Although Liverpool has enjoyed huge success over the past couple of seasons, I’m sure that Jurgen Klopp’s men will still be desperate to gain revenge on Real Madrid after what happened in the 2016/17 UCL final.
Los Blancos won 3-1 on that occasion, with Loris Karius gifting them two goals via a couple of infamous mistakes. But a lost has changed since then.
Liverpool went on to win the Champions League the following year before clinching the EPL title last term, yet a recent dip in form has seen the Reds lose a lot of credibility. Still, the manner with which Liverpool cruised past Leipzig in the previous round was mightily impressive.
On the flip side, Real Madrid appears to have rediscovered some form following a testing mid-season downturn. Zinedine Zidane’s men have only lost one of their last 18 La Liga games and sealed an easy 4-1 aggregate win over Atalanta in the Round of 16.
In all honesty, this tie could go either way. But I can see Liverpool edging it. The Reds have looked seriously strong in Europe of late, while Real hasn’t found life easy in the UCL this season.
Manchester City vs. Borussia Dortmund
It’s safe to say that everybody connected with Borussia Dortmund would have been hoping to avoid one team in the quarter-finals – Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola’s unstoppable machine enjoyed a mammoth 21-match winning streak between December and March. And to make matters worse for Dortmund, the Cityzens have only lost one of their previous 33 games in all competitions.
If BVB is to get the better of Man City over two legs, Erling Haaland will need to maintain his outrageous record in the Champions League. The 20-year-old has already netted 24 goals in 21 UCL appearances, including ten in six this season alone.

|Erling Haaland||Borussia Dortmund||10||6||1.71|
However, City’s backline has been almost impenetrable in recent months. Led by Ruben Dias and John Stones, Guardiola’s men have kept countless clean sheets this term, with a routine 4-0 aggregate victory coming against another German team – Borussia Monchengladbach – in the last round.
Regardless of whether Haaland does add to his tally in the quarter-finals, Man City should beat Dortmund pretty comfortably.
Bayern Munich vs. PSG
The reigning UCL champions flexed their muscles in the Round of 16, seeing off Lazio without any problems. After winning the first leg 4-1 in Italy, Bayern claimed a 2-1 home win in the second leg – advancing 6-2 on aggregate.
You probably won’t be surprised to hear that Robert Lewandowski got on the scoresheet in both games against Lazio. Remarkably, the lethal striker has netted 42 goals in 36 games this season, with two hat-tricks coming in his last three Bundesliga outings.
Robert Lewandowski passed 40 club goals at the weekend for the sixth straight season. He’s the only player in Europe’s top leagues to have done it every season since 2015/16 ?March 22, 2021
The Parisians also made light work of their last opponent, crushing Barcelona 5-2 on aggregate. Having bagged a hat-trick at Camp Nou, Kylian Mbappe scored his sixth goal in three UCL games as PSG got the job done in the second leg.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men haven’t had it all their own way domestically this term. The top four sides in Ligue 1 are separated by just four points now, although PSG currently leads the way.
Just like last season, I’m expecting Bayern to overcome PSG. The French giant will no doubt give Hansi Flick’s men a run for their money, but Lewandowski and co. should be too strong for the Parisians.
Porto vs. Chelsea
Before the Round of 16, Chelsea was priced at roughly 20.00 to win the Champions League this year. But having conquered Atletico Madrid, the Blues are now among the favorites to go all the way.
Chelsea’s odds may have dropped significantly due to a favorable quarter-final draw, but the drop in price is also down to the team’s recent resurgence. The Blues are yet to taste defeat in 12 games under Tuchel, picking up eight wins and four draws along the way.

Meanwhile, Porto will probably still be buzzing after knocking out Juventus in the previous round. Despite losing the second leg 3-2, Sergio Conceicao’s men eventually progressed on away goals, with Sergio Oliveira bagging a brace to seal a 4-4 aggregate draw.
The Dragons are also flying back home, having lost just two of their 24 Liga NOS matches this season. An 18-game unbeaten streak has filled the team with heaps of belief, but it is difficult to imagine Porto dispatching Chelsea over two legs.
Tuchel has transformed his side into a frightening force, so I’m confident that Chelsea advance to the semi-finals.
Closing Thoughts on the UCL Quarter-Finals
Having taken everything into account, I’m expecting Liverpool, Man City, Bayern Munich, and Chelsea to advance from the UCL quarter-finals.
The bookies’ Champions League odds reflect the power of the EPL clubs in the competition – and I’m backing all three English teams to reach the last four.
Man City and Chelsea should qualify with relative ease, although Liverpool will have to be at their very best to overcome Real Madrid. Bayern Munich’s tie with PSG will be close, but I’m confident the defending champs will get the job done.
That’s it for my Champions League quarter-final betting preview. If you’re planning to wager on the upcoming UCL games individually, make sure you check out the match previews in our soccer picks section.
