Betting Odds and Contenders for the 2021-22 Stanley Cup

| August 31, 2021 10:38 am PDT

The NHL is set to begin its upcoming season on October 12th, 2021. The league is also set to go back to its normal length of 82 games, instead of last season’s 56 due to COVID-19. This is great news for hockey fans, as we begin to get back to normal in the sports world.

With almost double the amount of NHL games for us to watch this season, let’s take a look at the favorite, as well as other contenders for the Stanley Cup in the 2021-22 season.

Stanley Cup Odds for 2021-22

Colorado Avalanche+625
Tampa Bay Lightning+650
Vegas Golden Knights+900
Boston Bruins+1200
Carolina Hurricanes+1200
Toronto Maple Leafs+1400
New York Rangers+1600
New York Islanders+1800
Florida Panthers+2000
Dallas Stars+2200

The list above showcases the teams with the best odds to win the Stanley Cup going into the 2021-22 NHL season. For the rest of the team’s pricing, feel free to head over to Bovada.

Just keep in mind that Stanley Cup odds can and will change leading into the year. What may look like good or bad pricing now could change drastically over the next month or so.

Of course, that’s a huge reason why looking at 2021-22 Stanley Cup odds right now could be vital for bettors looking to maximize their betting upside.

Right now, the Colorado Avalanche look like the team to beat regarding Stanley Cup odds.

After being eliminated by the Vegas Golden Knights in Round 2 of the 2021 playoffs, the Avalanche find themselves as the most favored team, odds-wise, to win the Stanley Cup this season.

The Avalanche finished tied with the best record in the regular season last year and they had a great offseason, so it is not a huge surprise to see them at the top.

The Tampa Bay Lightning were the 2020-21 Stanley Cup winners, and they find themselves right behind the Avalanche in the odds rankings.

They will be looking to repeat as champions for the third year in a row, which would make them the first team to do so since the New York Islanders won four years in a row from 1980-1983.

Should the Avalanche Be Favored?

The Colorado Avalanche had a disappointing end to their season last year.

After finishing 39-13-4, they tied the Vegas Golden Knights for the best record in the NHL (both had a .732 winning percentage), while also tying the Golden Knights for most points in the league with 82.

Their regular season was incredible, but they couldn’t bring the Stanley Cup to Colorado at the end of the season.

They will be looking to right the ship and finish the job in 2021-22.

They acquired Goalie Darcy Kuemper, defenseman Kurtis MacDermid, as well as resigning captain left-wing, Gabriel Landeskog this offseason. They still have Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar for 2021 as well.

This team was capable enough to win last season, and they are very capable of winning it this year.

Viable Stanley Cup Contenders

Besides the Avalanche, there are some other teams that should be regarded as contenders to win the 2021-22 Stanley Cup.

You can probably assess that to a degree just by looking at the odds for who will win the Stanley Cup this year, but pricing is only part of the picture.

Let’s look at which teams besides the Avalanche could win it this year.

Tampa Bay Lightning (+650)

The Lightning are obviously another big contender this year after winning the championship in the past two seasons.

They are led by captain Steven Stamkos, as well as Nikita Kucherov, Andrei Vasilevski, Brayden Point, and more.

The back-to-back champs are right behind the Avalanche in the odds race, which may motivate them even more for this season.

Vegas Golden Knights (+900)

The Golden Knights did trade away their recent Vezina Trophy winner, Marc-Andre Fleury. He was sent to the Chicago Blackhawks and the team replaced him on the roster with Laurent Broissoit.

Goalie play probably won’t be as good as it was last season, but they still have a capable team to win the Stanley Cup this season.

Their roster consists of skaters Mark Stone, Alex Pietrangelo, Max Pacioretty, William Karlsson, and goalie Robin Lehner.

The Golden Knights have been impressive since its founding in 2017, and they are shooting for the Stanley Cup in 2021.

Boston Bruins (+1200)

The Bruins seem to be a little underrated coming in at their current odds. They have a solid team featuring Patrice Bergeron, David Pastrnak, Brad Marchand, Taylor Hall and newcomer Nick Foligno.

They finished third in the Eastern Division to a record of 33-16-7 and eliminated the Capitals in the first round of the playoffs in five games. They ended up being eliminated in the second round by the Islanders in six games.

After falling two series short of the Stanley Cup, the Bruins will be looking to redeem themselves in the 2021-22 NHL season.

Betting on the 2021-22 Stanley Cup Winner

With the Tampa Bay Lightning and Colorado Avalanche looking to be the favorites coming into the season, I’m going to cast my vote on the Boston Bruins.

It is always hard to win a Stanley Cup, let alone three in a row. That could be reason enough to shy away from the Lightning and look elsewhere in 2021-22.

They could very well get the job done again in the upcoming season, but I prefer to bet on someone with some longer odds.

My favorite team to target at top NHL betting sites at this point in the season is going to the Boston Bruins.

They have profitable odds (+1200), which is about double the odds of the Avalanche and Lightning. Nick Foligno could be the final piece the Bruins need to take their team to the next level. They will be looking to win their first Stanley Cup since 2011 and end the Lightning’s streak at two.

Obviously, there is a reason for the Avalanche and Lightning being heavily favored. They both have great rosters and didn’t lose a bunch of talent in their offseasons.

But when you want to place a season-long bet, you want to make sure it’s worth it. I think the Bruins odds are profitable, and the team is good enough to win it this season.
