Why Spence Beats Garcia
Much has been made of Errol Spence Jr’s recovery from a car crash that could have taken the champion’s life. And so it should.
In simple terms, no one other than Spence and his inner circle knows what shape he is in ahead of this fight. Miraculously, “The Truth” escaped that one-car collision in October 2019 with just a broken jaw and a few other minor injuries.
How will his jaw hold up against a precision puncher like Garcia? Are his reflexes and ability to train affected by the crash? Is he the same boxer?
From what I have gathered, I don’t believe the injuries that he sustained are serious enough to cause significant damage or lead to concern over his ability to box at a high level. And for that reason, I think it is safe to bet on Spence to beat Garcia in December.
Garcia is a talented boxer that can cause Spence trouble. But there is no doubt that his best days were at 140 pounds. Coming into this fight against the biggest and arguably the best there is at 147, he will have trouble. A fit and healthy Spence is almost guaranteed to move up to 154 in the future and the chances are he will do well at that weight class. Garcia, like his namesake Mikey, might find that his strength is too much.
He has the power, the technique, the skills, and the nous to make this a really tough night for Swift. His 72″ reach to Garcia’s 68.5″ will be telling, especially as he operates from southpaw and has good footwork.
I see Spence winning this fight by unanimous decision, but expect Garcia to be competitive for the first few rounds.

By far the easiest and most common bet is the moneyline pick. All you need to do is choose the fighter you want to win, place your stake, and that’s it! Seriously, it’s that easy.
In this fight, I am choosing Spence to beat Garcia at odds of -500. I see the champion as a better fighter than Swift. More than this, Spence is the type of fighter that Garcia struggles with, and that is factored into my decision.
