Bournemouth vs. Fulham Betting Preview

A lot of people will overlook the EPL match between Bournemouth and Fulham this week.

The fate of both sides is pretty much clear at this point of the season, and they haven’t performed well recently.

However, I feel that the game might provide some exciting moments. More importantly, I think the  odds at some of the best soccer betting sites show some promise in one of the markets.

I will share my complete Bournemouth – Fulham preview and finish it with a betting pick based on the analysis of the two sides.

I already did the same for the match between West Ham and Leicester, so feel free to check it out.

Bournemouth vs. Fulham Odds

Let’s see what betting odds BetOnline has offered for the match between Bournemouth and Fulham.

Bournemouth to Win1.64
Fulham to Win4.90
Over 3 Goals1.89
Under 3 Goals1.92

Despite the shaky form of Bournemouth, the home side deserves to be the favorite here. The Cherries are a decent team that has a distinguished style of play. Not many other clubs with modest budgets can say the same.

A good example of exactly the opposite is Fulham. The Cottagers failed to build an identity despite signing some great players. The price they’ll pay is a return to the Championship next season.

Under the circumstances, it’s no wonder that the odds for Bournemouth to win are 1.64. In fact, I think it might be a bit higher, considering how fragile this Fulham side is.

I expect to see some goals here, so the line for the totals seems right. The defense of the visitors is in shambles, but they can find the net every now and then too. I don’t think there is value in this market, but let’s preview both teams before moving on to my final pick.

Bournemouth Team News and Analysis

The start of the season was exceptional for Bournemouth. A string of good results made sure that the team won’t be involved in the relegation battle. A solid mid-table finish was on the cards, but the Cherries didn’t exactly build on their strong beginning.

An injury to their main striker Callum Wilson derailed the side towards the end of 2018, and it hasn’t been able to recover completely ever since. Bournemouth has been inconsistent and often sloppy. I think that their lack of confidence might have been an issue.

The Cherries’ last game certainly helped in that regard, as they trashed Brighton 5-0 away from home. The likes of Gosling, Fraser, and Wilson all found the net.

The side has a great opportunity to keep their momentum by facing the atrocious Fulham. Bournemouth should be able to have more of the ball for most of the game and patiently find cracks in the visitor’s defense.

Considering how bad Fulham is at the back, there should be plenty of chances for the Cherries. They have the players to hurt the opposition, and I expect a couple of goals for the home team.

I’m a bit concerned about the Bournemouth defense, as it has shown ups and downs recently. And yet, the team has recorded a couple of clean sheets at home since the start of 2019. Even if the Cherries concede, they should be able to make up for it at the other end. The likes of Fraser and Wilson could go on a rampage.

Eddie Howe will be able to count on them and most of his squad. If we exclude a couple of long-term injuries, there are no suspensions or new health issues.

Fulham Team News and Analysis

We’ve seen the story of Fulham many times before. A newcomer to the EPL buys some good players, starts the season inconsistently, and never recovers. Managers change, there are decent performances, but the results are simply not good enough.

The problem with the side is that it can’t play on the same level for the full 90 minutes. We’ve seen stretches when Fulham actually looks solid at the back, and suddenly, the team concedes 2 or 3 goals in quick succession.

The problem is even bigger away from home. The Cottagers have played 17 games and lost 15 of them, drawing the other two. They are by far the worst visitors in the English Premier League.

The Fulham defense has shipped 44 goals in 17 away games, and I honestly can’t see how you could expect to survive with such a record. Even Huddersfield is going better in its visits.

A lack of organization at the back has been easily exploited by pretty much any team that Fulham has faced so far. The side is leaking chances in all kinds of situations, both from open play and set pieces.

I don’t see a reason why anything will be different against Bournemouth, and another ugly defeat may be on the cards. Once Fulham concedes, the team usually collapses, and the home team simply has too much for that not to happen once again.

The only bright side is the lack of injuries or suspensions, but this hasn’t helped Fulham too much up to this point.

Bournemouth vs. Fulham Prediction and Betting Pick

Bournemouth is the much better team and has the home advantage. The convincing victory against Brighton should have restored some confidence too, so the Cherries are the overwhelming favorite against Fulham in my book.

The Cottagers will probably stay competitive for some period of the game, but I expect them to concede a couple of goals sooner or later.

The price of 1.64 for the home side to win is solid, but I would prefer a bit more adventurous approach. My final betting pick would be Bournemouth to cover the -1 Asian handicap. The odds of 2.04 are more than decent and come with a bit of insurance.

If the Cherries win by one goal margin, you still get your stake back. Since my prediction would be something like 3-1 in their favor, I can’t resist the temptation to go for Bournemouth -1 AH.

Final Words

I hope that the Fulham team doesn’t suddenly find out how to defend, but I don’t think the probability of that is too high. The side is shipping goals with such ease that I simply can’t skip this bet.
