Let’s get into the Golden Globes Betting Guide and what you can expect from a betting perspective.
Key Details for the 2022 Golden Globes
This will be the 79th Golden Globe Awards to honor the best film and American TV of the 2021 year, chosen by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). The presentation for the awards will take place on January 9th of 2022.
As far as watching the Golden Globes, the network has yet to be determined.
NBC announced that they would not televise the ceremony in support of a boycott against the HFPA. Multiple media companies have expressed their thoughts about the HFPA’s lack of efforts to support diversity.
The HFPA will still go through with the Golden Globes whether it is televised or not. Obviously, it being televised would make money for them, so I am sure they will get a deal done with a company sooner rather than later.
The HFPA has reportedly committed to at least 13% black membership, after the recent rumors. It will be something to keep an eye on, but the Golden Globes are very unlikely to be canceled.
January 3rd marks the deadline for the final ballots, while the ceremony will occur on the 9th. Let’s just hope we will be able to watch this great award show.
2022 Golden Globes Odds
The odds are the biggest thing to look at when betting on the Golden Globes. Looking at the odds allows you to see which nominations are most likely to win. It is also a great chance for you to see if you like the pricing of certain bets.
For example, if you loved Leonardo DiCaprio’s performance in “Don’t Look Up,” he has a very profitable price at (+1000) for Best Actor in a Musical/Comedy.
Let’s take a look at some top awards and the odds for their nominations.
Best Actor (Drama)
- Will Smith (King Richard): -230
- Benedict Cumberbatch (The Power of the Dog): +270
- Denzel Washington (The Tragedy of MacBeth): +900
- Mahershala Ali (Swan Song): +1200
- Javier Bardem (Being the Ricardos): +1400
Will Smith has been nominated for his 5th Golden Globe in the Best Actor category. He has yet to win one of the awards, but he is the favorite to win this year due to his role in the film “King Richard.”
Benedict Cumberbatch is second odds-wise on this list. He is close at +270, so he isn’t too far behind Will Smith. He played Phil Burbank in The Power of the Dog, a film that has “themes such as animal cruelty, apart from love, grief, resentment, jealousy and sexuality.”
Best Actress (Drama)
- Kristen Stewart (Spencer): -200
- Olivia Colman (The Lost Daughter): +550
- Nicole Kidman (Being the Ricardos): +600
- Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye): +700
- Lady Gaga (House of Gucci): +900
Kristen Stewart has a hefty lead in the award for Best Actress (Drama). Her -200 doesn’t seem that bad when considering the drop off to the next option.
The film was inspired by the British royal family and Princess Diana. Stewart plays Princess Diana and follows her story about her divorce and decision to leave the royal family.
After Stewart, it really is a shot in the dark. Olivia Colman, Nicole Kidman, and Jessica Chastain are all neck and neck odds-wise. Lady Gaga isn’t too far behind for her role in “House of Gucci.”
I think there is some serious value here either way. If Kristen Stewart ultimately does not win, whoever does will come with a solid return on investment.
Best Actor (Musical or Comedy)
- Andrew Garfield (tick, tick…Boom!): -280
- Peter Dinklage (Cyrano): +330
- Leonardo DiCaprio (Don’t Look Up): +1000
- Cooper Hoffman (Licorice Pizza): +1200
- Anthony Ramos (In the Heights): +1200
Andrew Garfield’s role as Jonathan Larson in “tick, tick…Boom!” has earned himself the favorite to win Best Actor (Musical or Comedy). The musical is about Jonathan Larsen and his journey in New York City about being an aspiring composer.
Peter Dinklage is the closest one behind him on the odds list for his role in Cyrano. Dinklage plays Cyrano de Bergerac in the musical that is also nominated for Best Motion Picture as well.
The great Leonardo DiCaprio is third after Dinklage. Garfield and Dinklage are a close one and two, while everyone else is a bit far behind. DiCaprio will be looking to win his 4th Golden Globe award for his role in the star-studded cast of “Don’t Look Up.”
Best Actress (Musical or Comedy)
- Rachel Zegler (West Side Story): -130
- Alana Haim (Licorice Pizza): +110
- Jennifer Lawrence (Don’t Look Up): +1000
- Marion Cotillard (Annette): +2000
- Emma Stone (Cruella): +2500
The same sort of deal here from Best Actor (Musical or Comedy). Rachel Zegler and Alana Haim are neck and neck for this award, while there is a steep drop off after them.
There is a slight issue on MyBookie with Akana Haim’s option, as it partially says Jennifer Lawrence as well. I would say to either choose the option for Alana Haim only or avoid it all together.
West Side Story is another remake of the original 1957 Broadway production. The teenage rivalry gangs find themselves in a hard place with an ex-member of one falling in love with the sister of the other.
Zegler’s role as Maria earned her the highest spot on the odds leaderboard.
Critics are calling #WestSideStory “One of Steven Spielberg’s best films”! See the film that is one of the most nominated of the year, including Best Picture, now playing only in theaters! https://t.co/AN7uRkUKNw pic.twitter.com/uERi5eQ4d3— West Side Story (@WestSideMovie) December 29, 2021
Will it be enough to win the award? We will have to wait and see if she can beat out Alana Haim and the others to find out.
Best Picture (Drama)
- Belfast: +100
- The Power of the Dog: +200
- King Richard: +330
- Dune: +1200
- CODA: +1600
There were a ton of great films this year and these 5 are in the mix for Best Picture (Drama). We have a tight race considering the top 3 and there is no clear favorite. This is shaping up to be one of the closest races throughout the entire night of the 2022 Golden Globes.
Belfast is the current leader on this list, but not by much. Rotten Tomatoes awarded this film with an 87%, while the audience score was higher at 91%.
The Power of the Dog was rated much higher on the Tomatometer at an impressive 95%, but the audience was not even close to that high at 61%.
King Richard was rated very highly on the Tomatometer and on the Audience score. The film got a solid 91% from Rotten Tomatoes, while the Audience score was nearly perfect at 98%.
Dune and CODA might be in for a very tough battle, as the other three movies are favored to win way more than they are. Personally, King Richard is looking like a very valuable bet to make at this point thanks to its great reviews.

Golden Globes Betting Strategy
You should have a solid strategy when betting on the Golden Globes. Placing random bets on your favorite movies or TV shows may not actually work out.
You must take into consideration the other movies that you may not have watched as well. You can very well bet on your favorite movies and TV shows, and they might win, but that isn’t a reliable enough way to look at it.
Here are some overall tips to help you with your Golden Globes betting strategy.
Pay Attention to the Odds
You can find some betting tips in the odds if you take a closer look. There is usually a favorite with a close contender, followed by some long shots. The favorite is not always going to win, check out the biggest Golden Globes upsets in history for a quick reminder.
There is a big difference between him and the next nomination being Steve Martin at (+600). That means that Sudeikis is probably going to win this one barring any huge surprises. I would steer clear of upset bets if the favorite is that steep.
Bet on What You Know
Now I already said you shouldn’t bet on your favorites, and that’s still true. But if you honestly think your favorite movie or TV show has a great chance of winning in their category, then go for it!
Honestly, you shouldn’t bet on things that you have no idea about. For example, if you love drama films and barely watch any musicals, then I would steer clear of betting on musicals.
Not placing a bet is always better than losing a bet. Always be sure that you know a decent amount of information before you are placing your bet.
Betting on the 2022 Golden Globes
If you are a big fan of the Golden Globe Awards, I would strongly recommend betting on them. The highly anticipated feelings of “who will win” will be amplified even more if you placed a bet. It makes it a ton of fun and you have a chance to win some real money.
The 2022 Golden Globes should be another incredible night of award giving. We will get a nice lookback on all of the 2021 films that were great and look forward to another exciting year.
