BATE Borisov vs. Torpedo-BelAZ Zhodino Belarusian Premier League

The new league leaders travel to play the most decorated Belarusian club this weekend, and it will be an interesting test of how good this Torpedo-BelAZ Zhodino side really is. BATE may not be quite as all-powerful as in years gone by, but it still poses a massive threat to any other club with aspirations of taking the title.

BATE has also started to win games after a very sluggish start to the season, so all eyes will be on this game.

BATE Borisov vs. Torpedo-BelAZ Zhodino Odds

BATE Borisov to Win-250
The Draw+364
Torpedo-BelAZ Zhodino to Win+640

BetOnline has taken no notice of Torpedo’s current position in pricing this game and has backed BATE to continue its winning streak and take back its more usual role at the top of the table. The odds are probably little unfair on Torpedo, considering who it has already beaten this season, but an away win seems very unlikely here.

Match Preview

The new Belarusian Premier League season kicked off with a whole host of shocks and surprises, and BATE Borisov was no exception. The former champion lost its first two games but has now started to pick up some points in an attempt to get over the disappointment of giving up its league crown last year.

There will still be too many goals being conceded for manager Kirill Alshevsky’s liking, but at least his side is winning games now. Stanislav Dragun is scoring from midfield, and the policy of not bringing in too many new players over the break finally looks like its working.

Torpedo will hope that it can stop that resurgence and continue its fine form that has seen the Zhodino side climb to the top of the table after four games. This is a club that has never finished higher than fourth, so it is unchartered territory in many ways.

Narrow victories have been the order of the day for the visitors, and that will probably be the case once again if it is to get the better of BATE. Only Dinamo Minsk has scored against Torpedo in the league this season, but that could change in what is likely to be an enthralling game on Saturday.

BATE Borisov vs. Torpedo-BelAZ Zhodino Pick

  • BATE Borisov to Win

The odds for a draw or a Torpedo win look enticing, but I feel that BATE is on its way back to being one of the main challengers for the Belarusian title this season. Dynamo Brest showed last year that BATE’s success is not guaranteed, but coming up empty handed in 2019 will have hurt these players, and the race for the title could be very close this season.

A win at home over Torpedo will keep that scenario alive.
