It has been a strange start to the new season for BATE. The club had become almost perennial champions until Dinamo Brest claimed its first title last year, and the opening rounds of the new campaign have been nothing to celebrate for Belarus’ most decorated club.
There have been two successive losses to kick off proceedings, and head coach Kirill Alshevskiy will be looking at the visit of newly promoted Rukh Brest as a perfect opportunity to pick up BATE’s first points of 2020.

BATE Borisov to Win-361
Rukh Brest to Win+908
This is the most one-sided game of the weekend, according to BetOnline, who has disregarded BATE’s awful start to the season and put faith in the team that has been so successful over the years. I’m inclined to agree with its assessment, even though there would be some very healthy returns from a winning Rukh Brest wager.
The opening day of the new Belarusian Premier League season saw a whole host of strange results, and BATE’s 3-1 loss to Energertik-BGU was one of the ones that really stood out. But if early-season nerves against an attacking team could explain that defeat away, the follow-up loss to Slavia Mozyr was a real shock.
BATE only lost four games in the entire 2019 season, and that was enough to hand Dinamo Brest the title. It will be interesting to see if Anton Saroka is given another chance up front here, as he has not opened his goal account yet this season. Something needs to change quickly for BATE in that department.
It was a good season for the city of Brest last year. Dinamo might have won the Premier League, but Rukh was promoted to the top flight for the first time in its short history via the playoffs. The club has cut all ties with Dinamo now and is looking good so far, winning one and losing one of its opening two games.
The fact that the mighty Dinamo Minsk was Rukh’s first victim must have made the situation even better. But the defeat to Energetik-BGU will have brought the team back down to Earth. The good thing is that Rukh has nothing to lose from this one, as all the pressure will be on BATE.
BATE Borisov vs. Rukh Brest Pick
BATE Borisov to Win
Surely BATE won’t lose three games in a row? The start to the season has been an absolute nightmare for all involved with the club, and I just can’t see BATE falling once again, especially to a club that has only been around for a couple of years and was promoted just last year.
Expect this result to be more predictable, but this season may be a tough one for BATE.
We have more previews for the third round of the Belarusian Premier League, as you can see below.
