NASCAR DFS Picks for the 2020 Bass Pro Shops Night Race

Denny Hamlin hopes to defend his title when the race gets underway for the 2020 Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race on Saturday, September 19th.

The best of the best hit up Bristol Motor Speedway in hopes of landing a big win, and the top NASCAR betting websites rightfully have Hamlin as the favorite to win.

Is it as easy as backing Hamlin here? I’m not so sure. Hamlin won here in 2019, but he hasn’t always been in his best form at Bristol.

This could be a great spot to overlook the betting favorite, and that may apply to how we build our NASCAR DFS lineups this weekend, as well.

Let’s take a look at three drivers that stand out in my NASCAR DFS picks for the Bass Pro Shops Night NRA Race, and wrap things up with my favorite lineup for the event.

Chase Elliott ($10.7k)

Hamlin is the defending champion, and there are other studs to target, but the guy I want to pay up for the most is probably Elliott.

He’s dazzled as much as anyone in 2020, cracking the top-10 18 times, and snagging three wins. Elliott is not cheap and he’s been all over the place lately, but he did crack the top-5 in two of his last runs.

Elliott has had a lot of success at Bristol, too. The No. 9 Chevrolet driver is seeking his first win at the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race, but the 24-year old is getting closer with 5th and 3rd place finishes here over the past two seasons.

Clint Bowyer ($8.4k)

I will admit that I may not cram Bowyer into my top NASCAR DFS lineup just to do it, as he’s not exactly cheap, and he’s starting out of the 11th slot. That leaves him very little wiggle room to pan out if things don’t go just right.

That said, he has been the poster boy for consistency lately. He has 11 top-10 finishes on the season, and four have come in his last six races.

Bowyer has also been excellent at Bristol, which is a huge reason he makes the cut for Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race sleepers. He’s never won, but this is his track, as he’s finished 7th and 6th in his last two runs at this event, and 8th or better at his last four appearances at Bristol Motor Speedway.

With his recent form and the track and event history working in his favor, he’s a driver that needs to be on your radar.

Daniel Suarez ($5.4k)

Suarez is a deep sleeper, but he’s a nice punt if you want to rack up some mid-range drivers, and/or cram two studs into your NASCAR DFS lineups.

He didn’t really work out the last time I vouched for him, but he’s always done a solid job at Bristol. He’s finished 8th, 18th, and 15th at this specific event, and he’s been 18th or better each time he’s driven at Bristol Motor Speedway in the Cup Series.

In the Xfinity Series, he has four top-six finishes here.

Suarez clearly likes this track, and while he’s been rather ho-hum on the year, I can see him paying off all the way back in the 29th spot.

My Favorite NASCAR DFS Lineup for September 19th

  • Chase Elliott ($10.7k)
  • Daniel Suarez ($5.4k)
  • William Byron ($7.9k)
  • Austin Dillon ($7.8k)
  • Alex Bowman ($7.4k)
  • Kyle Busch ($10.4k)

I’ve touched on Elliott and Suarez, and while I like Bowyer a lot, I won’t force him into this Bass Pro Shops Night Race DFS lineup. In fact, if his consistency and success here is going to make him remotely high-owned, I’ll gladly pivot to other drivers.

One of those drivers is William Byron, who saves me a little cash, and is arguably an even better play. Byron hasn’t had near the success Bowyer has had at Bristol, but he has had a good year with two wins and 11 top-10 runs.

Byron has also been in terrific form. He finished 21st his last time out, but was 5th or better in his previous three events.

Dillon and Bowman are two more drivers who tend to be rather reliable, safe plays, but are both pretty cheap given their talent and upside. Dillon doesn’t have an amazing track record at Bristol, but did finish 13th at this event twice in the past four years.

Dillon already has a win under his belt for 2020, has 12 finishes inside the top-10, and is in good form with a 4th and 2nd place run over his last two races.

Bowman is seeking his second win of the year, and he keeps getting close. He finished 9th in his last race, but has finished well inside the top-10 in each of his last four races.

Lastly, I’ll get my second stud and pay up for Kyle Busch. Busch has been awesome all year long, racking up 16 placements inside the top-10. He’s finished 6th and 7th in his last two races, yet is still looking for his first win of 2020.

I think Busch has a really good chance at ending his drought here, but even if he doesn’t, he’ll come close. Pairing him with Elliott – and three other steady drivers – gives us a strong NASCAR DFS lineup that could go the distance.

Using Suarez and eating $400 in salary could help to make this squad different enough in the event it does climb to the top of a GPP, too.

Hopefully my favorite NASCAR DFS picks help you this week. For the betting side of things, check out our 2020 Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race betting preview.
