The opening season of Flashpoint was successful and the CS:GO competition is going to be back for a second season. The prize pool is $1,000,000 once again and some of the top teams in the world will compete for their share.
The show starts on November 10 and we know the full list of squads that will be part of it. You can check my Flashpoint Season 2 betting guide for more general information, while this post is focused on the most likely winners.
I share my thoughts on the top contenders for Flashpoint Season 2 and their chances to win the CS:GO tournament.
There was no better CS:GO squad in the world than BIG in the summer of 2020. The Germans dominated the competitive scene, winning multiple tournaments in the process. The team has lost some steam since, but it remains among the best in the world.
BIG just earned a spot in the Blast Premier: Fall 2020 Finals after a solid performance in the Regular Season and Flashpoint Season 2 is the next big target.
In the absence of squads like Vitality, Astralis, and Heroic, I view BIG as arguably the strongest team in the competition. The consistency of the side is remarkable and the guys know how to deliver under pressure.
The $500k prize for the top spot should be able to bring the best of them during Flashpoint Season 2.
Another European team that deserves a place on the list of the top contenders for Flashpoint Season 2 is OG. The squad also qualified for the Blast Finals last week, beating the likes of Evil Geniuses and Na’Vi (twice) in the process.
OG has been a constant presence in the top CS:GO tournaments in 2020 and has looked on the brink of winning a major trophy several times already. The team seems destined to grab a title at some point and it won’t be a complete shocker if that happens before the end of the year.
The tactical awareness and leadership of Aleksib, combined with the lack of obvious weaknesses could be enough to come out on top during Flashpoint Season 2.
OG is one of the best squads when it comes to adapting to tournaments with a long format and they are one of my favorites for a deep run in the upcoming event.
You don’t normally expect much from teams that had to go through qualifiers, but that’s not the case with Virtus.pro. The squad has been unbeaten since the end of September and some of the most recent wins included triumphs over Na’Vi, forZe, and Heretics.
It’s been an impressive run that certainly boosted Virtus.pro’s confidence. The team is one of the dark horses for Flashpoint Season 2 too and it could go all the way under the right circumstances.
What I like the most about Virtus.pro is that the guys can deliver under pressure. The past month or so featured plenty of matches that went to a third map and VP always came out on top. That requires confidence and I’m sure that we’ll see that character on display during Flashpoint Season 2.
You don’t often see Dignitas mentioned as a big threat nowadays after the team has looked way behind the leading CS:GO squads in 2020. And yet, the organization added two new members to the roster recently and that could be the key to the future.
Dignitas currently features a nice mix of young blood and experienced veterans like f0rest and friberg. The new squad might need some time to get it right, but Flashpoint Season 2’s format is long and we might see the best of the guys by the time it’s finished.
It will be hard to overcome to likes of BIG or OG so soon, but if the main favorites fail to show up, Dignitas has the means to punish them and snatch the title.
I believe these four teams are the top contenders for Flashpoint Season 2 and I expect a deep run from each of them. The rest of the field has looked out of form recently and it will be hard to improve fast enough to challenge.
And yet, a prize pool of $1 million is enough of a reason to believe it’s possible. Do you think that any of the other squads could win Flashpoint Season 2? Let me know in the comments below.
