Early 2022-23 NHL Stanley Cup Finals Odds with Analysis
It’s been over 20 years, but the Colorado Avalanche finally won their third Stanley Cup in franchise history. They’ve had the talent to win over the last few years or so, but they couldn’t finish the job.
That all changed in 2022, as they defeated the two-time reigning champions, the Tampa Bay Lightning, in 6 games. With the 2021-22 season officially in the books, it’s time to look at the odds of the 2023 NHL Stanley Cup Finals.
If you’re a hockey fan or an avid sports bettor, you know that NHL futures odds are some of the best ways to invest in your favorite team(s). The best online hockey betting sites already have the odds to win the 2023 Stanley Cup, so let’s see which teams we should be betting on for this year.
Early 2022-23 Stanley Cup Finals Odds
Here are the top 10 teams on the early 2023 NHL Stanley Cup Finals odds list. Every single one is available to bet on, so make sure you head over to the best betting sites in the USA to see the complete list.
For example, these odds are from BetOnline. They offer a welcome bonus of 50% of up to $1,000 for your first deposit. You can load up your account, place your bet on who will win the 2023 Stanley Cup Finals, and use that extra money for other bets.
Coming in as the Stanley Cup Finals 2023 favorite will be the defending champions in the Colorado Avalanche at (+400). It’s common to see the reigning title winners be the opening favorites to win the following season across all major sports, so the Avalanche has the lead for now.
Despite the Tampa Bay Lightning precisely doing that in the last two seasons, it isn’t easy to repeat. The Lightning and Penguins (2016, 2017) have been the only teams in the 21st century to defend their crown from the previous season.
Speaking of the Lightning, it’s no surprise to see them at the top of the Stanley Cup Finals betting odds too. As I said, they’ve won in 2020 and 2021 and took the Avalanche to 6 games in 2022.
With that being said, the offseason is a crucial point for every team in the NHL. The NHL Draft is possibly the most impactful event in addition to free agency. There should be a lot of moving pieces, which could shift the NHL Stanley Cup 2023 betting odds as well.
You can bet on the 2022 NHL Draft, so check out our guide below for more information.
Can the Colorado Avalanche Repeat as Champions?
Before making our predictions, we have to ask ourselves if betting on the early Stanley Cup Finals 2023 favorite is worth it. As I said, defending your title is not easy, and the odds are the least profitable of any available team.
That said, it’s certainly not out of the picture for the Avalanche to pull it off. They have more than enough talent to do exactly that. Colorado might even be on the verge of a powerful dynasty right before our eyes.
There are several reasons why the Avs are at the top of the early Stanley Cup Finals betting odds. Here are some important players that are still under contract for them for this upcoming season, including their 2023 salaries.
- Nathan MacKinnon ($6.85 million)
- Mikko Rantanen ($9.25 million)
- Gabriel Landeskog ($7 million)
- Cale Makar ($9 million)
- Samuel Girard ($5 million)
- Devon Toews ($4.1 million)
Those are the players we know are on the 2022-2023 roster for the Avalanche. That’s a pretty solid core to build around, but the more significant issue will be what players they could lose in the offseason. Colorado’s free agents proved they could win the Stanley Cup, so they can take this opportunity to cash in with a new team.
Here are the essential players that are now unrestricted free agents for the Avs with their 2022 regular-season point totals.
- Nazem Kadri (87)
- Andre Burakovsky (61)
- Valeri Nichushkin (52)
In addition to these top-tier players, their starting goalie, Darcy Kuemper, is also hitting the open market. However, they do have the 7th most cap space in the league right now, which should be enough to re-sign these players or move in another direction.
At the end of the day, there’s a good argument for either betting for or against the Stanley Cup Finals 2023 favorite in the Colorado Avalanche.
Who Is Colorado’s Top Challenger?
If you aren’t entirely sold on the Avalanche’s chances to repeat, which other team has the most intriguing odds of winning the 2023 Stanley Cup? There are a lot of great teams out there, but the number one challenger to the Avalanche has to be the Florida Panthers at (+1000).
This might surprise some, considering the Panthers’ Stanley Cup Finals betting odds for next season are ranked as the 4th best in the NHL. That’s behind the Avalanche, Lightning, and Maple Leafs.
Their playoff exit was quite disappointing after being swept by the Lightning in the second round. That could be used as extra motivation, though, as they look to prove that they are one of the very best teams in the league once more.
Defense is where the Panthers need to improve. They hired Paul Maurice after their season was finished, so hopefully, he can help them take a step forward in the goal prevention department.
Unlike the Avalanche, the Panthers don’t have as much room to work with in the salary cap. As a result, they’ll need to make some moves and grab valuable defensemen in the offseason if they want to improve.
Colorado was in a similar spot to the Panthers recently. If the Panthers can follow in their footsteps, they can be the eventual winner of the 2023 Stanley Cup Finals.
The Panthers were the league’s best team in the regular season. They have the talent to win the championship, but they’ll have to iron out some of their lineups first. So, let’s look at some other teams with valuable odds to win the 2023 Stanley Cup.
Best Value Bets for the 2022-23 Stanley Cup Winner
The thing about betting on the 2023 NHL Stanley Cup Finals odds is that you want to make sure you are getting the most bang for your buck. Betting on a team with (+400) odds might not be worth the year-long wait for the payout.
Instead, it would help if you looked at some teams offering more value. For example, if you are going to say goodbye to $100 for a whole NHL season, a payout of around $1,500 would be worth more than just $500.
Here are three teams with incredible value in their early Stanley Cup odds:
New York Rangers (+1400)
The Rangers were among the most entertaining teams to watch last year, especially at home. Rangers fans go wild for their team, which makes watching them fun. If they can bring home a Stanley Cup, Madison Square Garden might cause an earthquake.
New York has a lot of top-tier players that are under contract beyond this season. So they should be a very competitive team over the next couple of seasons or so, and they could also be the next Stanley Cup champion.
Here’s a look at their core players that will lead them to a lot of wins over the next few years.
- Igor Shesterkin
- Artemi Panarin
- Mika Zibanejad
- Chris Kreider
- Barclay Goodrow
- Adam Fox
All these players are at or entering their prime, so the Rangers should try and capitalize on that. It all starts with their netminder Igor Shesterkin. Shesterkin won the 2022 Vezina Trophy thanks to an incredible year.
He saved 93.5% of shots, held his opponents to just 2.07 goals per game, and finished the regular season with a stellar 36-13-4 record. The Rangers are one of the league’s best defensive teams in the league because of their goalie. The offense is important, but the defense does win championships.
In the offseason, they will have to address a couple of issues. Ryan Strome and Andrew Copp are unrestricted free agents, ranking 20th in cap space. They will have to work to re-sign these two key players or replace them with new and improved ones.
Don’t forget about the Kid Line either, which could take another step forward this year.

At the end of the day, the Rangers were one of the most impressive teams last season. Add in the possibility of an improved offense, and they might be the most underrated 2022-23 team. If the Rangers are your early NHL Stanley Cup Finals prediction, you could be in for a big year.
Calgary Flames (+1800)
How about a team comparable to the Rangers on defense and scoring 41 more goals in the regular season? That would be none other than the Calgary Flames. I’m surprised that the Flames are below the Rangers by a good chunk in their early Stanley Cup odds.
I understand that they were bounced in the playoffs early, but the Edmonton Oilers were not an easy competition. Calgary will be looking to make it past the second round this upcoming season and possibly even win the Stanley Cup.
Their talented offense and tough defense make them one of the complete teams in the NHL. So, if you are looking for a bit of a sleeper pick with incredible value, the Flames could be your best bet.
It’s more important that they go after Gaudreau since he’s the unrestricted free agent and Tkachuk is restricted, but they’ll want to ensure their best players are taken care of.
I doubt that’s an issue, though, as Calgary ranks 6th in cap space right now. They can re-sign these players and then look to add some value in free agency.
Tampa Bay couldn’t win the Stanley Cup this year, but they did in the last two. They owe a lot of credit to their defense, and I like to think of Calgary as a team comparable to Tampa Bay in that aspect.
If they get aggressive in the offseason and at the trade deadline, Calgary could be a significant threat to win the 2022-23 Stanley Cup.
Edmonton Oilers (+2000)
If you’re a bettor or fan that likes to rely on superstar players, look no further than the Edmonton Oilers. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl make for two of the best players in the NHL, let alone on the Oilers.
McDavid scored a whopping 123 points in the regular season, while Draisaitl scored a very respectable 110 himself. That ranked 1st and 4th out of all NHL players, respectively.

Edmonton wasn’t able to make it the furthest in the playoffs (lost in Western Conference Finals to Colorado), but that didn’t stop McDavid and Draisaitl from scoring the most and second-most playoff points.
They are the top duo in the NHL and can take over a game anytime. That said, depth is the most important thing for a team to have if they want to win the Stanley Cup.
Like the Panthers, the offense is not an issue for the Oilers. They scored 285 goals in the regular season, which ranked 7th (tied) best in the NHL. On the other hand, their defense allowed 251 goals and ranked 18th in the league.
Watching McDavid and Draisaitl play in the Stanley Cup Finals would be incredibly entertaining. They have had some insane highlights over the years and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. They could be an intriguing bet for this year if they can get some strong support players.
Predicting the NHL Stanley Cup Champion in 2022-2023
Our early look at the odds of the 2023 NHL Stanley Cup Finals could be something you look back on and regret later down the road. I understand the risk of season-long bets, but the value is incredible. Maybe make a parlay across the major sports for an insane payout in a couple of years.
Isn’t that what gambling is all about? Everyone dreams of what they would do if they win the lottery, so how awesome would it be to do that by using the NHL Stanley Cup 2023 betting odds?
They have a lot of exciting players on their team and the best goalie in the league in Igor Shesterkin. If they take that next step, they could be crowned the champion of the NHL by next year.
