2022 Winter Olympics Men’s Ice Hockey Betting – Why the ROC Will Win Gold
When is the last time you looked at Beijing 2022 odds for the men’s hockey tournament?
If it was before the NHL announced that it would not be releasing players after the 2022 All-Star Game, you might be in for a surprise. Also, if you were looking forward to Team USA challenging as one of the top dogs, the absence of key players means they will be a little light of elite talent.
You can still bet on the Winter Olympics men’s ice hockey tournament, of course. The only difference is that the odds table has diverged, with the ROC now the favorite for gold in place of Canada.
Will the Russians win the ice hockey tournament at the Winter Olympics? It looks likely that they will go on to defend their title. I’ll be discussing why a little later.
Before that, let’s cast a glance over the latest odds Beijing 2022 odds for the men’s ice hockey tournament.
Latest 2022 Winter Olympics Men’s Ice Hockey Odds
The following odds for the men’s ice hockey tournament at Beijing 2022 come courtesy of Bovada.
I’ve cut things off at the top ten candidates to win the gold medal, but you can find a full list of contenders on their site.
The odds for who wins the gold medal in the men’s ice hockey tournament at Beijing 2022 have changed significantly.
If you look over this early preview of the men’s tournament, you’ll find that Canada and the USA were initial favorites to win gold. The ROC, who were third favorites back in early December, are now priced at +132.
Canada is +500 with the United States priced at +1250. With that said, both nations come with even wider odds elsewhere. The Russians are better priced here than with some other bookies. So, it might be a good idea to shop for lines with our recommended sites.
Depending on who you are betting on to win Olympic gold in the men’s ice hockey tournament, it could be worth spending a couple of minutes comparing odds.
Rating the ROC’s Chances – Why the Russians Will Win Gold
Gold medalists at Pyeongchang 2018, the ROC will head back to Asia with eyes on back-to-back championships.
This time around, they will have to do without Kirill Kaprizov. The Minnesota Wild star is a victim of the National Hockey League (NHL) decision to prevent its players from traveling to China. Igor Shestorkin and Ilya Sorokin of the Rangers and the Islanders, respectively, will also miss out.
In fact, a few of the top stars of 2018 will not be on the plane. Instead, the ROC will be turning to the likes of Matvei Michkov and Danila Yurov to bring the gold home. The Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) is considered the second-best championship on the planet and will look to show its key talents off in this side.
The abrasive and physically tough Russians will be looking to keep things steady at the back and build from there. With many of the best attacking talent missing from the USA and Canada, we could see this being key to why the ROC wins gold at Beijing 2022.

Most of the players to feature in the Russian roster will come from the KHL. They have yet to reveal the squad that will travel, but you can find their training roster, above.
Expect names such as Andrei Kuzmenko, Alexey Marchenko, Sergei Andronov, and Mikhail Grigorenko to be on the plane. If you’re betting on men’s Olympic hockey at Beijing 2022, it’s hard to look past the ROC as top candidates.
As far as betting advice going into the Winter Olympics goes, the following preview is worth a read.
Other Beijing 2022 Men’s Hockey Contenders – Will There be an Upset?
I don’t think the term “upset” is in the lexicon of many ice hockey supporters that can remember Team USA beating the Soviets in 1980.
Priced at +10000 to win, the Americans pulled off one of the greatest longshots wins in sports betting history with the “Miracle on Ice” at Lake Placid.
If the United States are to win the gold at Beijing, I’m not sure it would count among the greatest upsets in Olympics history. It would, however, be a very significant victory.
Here is a look at a few contenders that are ahead of Team USA as things stand.
- Odds: +330
- Previous Gold Medals: None
- Coach: Jukka Jalonen
Without participants from the NHL and NHLPA, Finland will field a weaker roster than it should have in Beijing.
Aleksander Barkov and Sebastian Aho will be major losses. Despite that, the 2019 World Championship gold medalists are second favorites to win the men’s ice hockey tournament at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
Standing at #2 in the official IIHF World Rankings, the Finns will be looking toward the likes of captain Marko Anttila to do the business.
The men’s Olympic ice hockey odds for 2022 had them at +750 before the NHL’s announcement in December. Now, the Scandanavians are shorter at +330 to win gold.
- Odds: +370
- Previous Gold Medals: 2
- Coach: Johan Garpenlöv
Gold medalists at Albertville 1992 and Turin 2006, the Swedes are not great value at +370.
Although among the top betting picks to win the men’s gold medal at Beijing 2022, the team will need a solid run. Without the likes of Henrik Lundqvist, Henrik Zetterberg, and Niklas Kronwall — who have all retired — that’s going to be much easier said than done.
?? After the results at the last #IIHFWorlds and in #PyeongChang2018, @Trekronorse hopes to bounce back in #Beijing2022 with a roster of players shining in the @SHLse, @KHL and @NLSLOfficial. Can they get back to the podium?— IIHF (@IIHFHockey) January 21, 2022

A lot will ride on the shoulders of the new crop. The likes of Dynamo Moscow’s Oscar Lindberg, who would have been looking at breaking the hearts of his employers, will be watching on with hope.
- Odds: +500
- Previous Gold Medals: 9
- Coach: Gerard Gallant
The pre-tournament favorites to win the men’s ice hockey gold medal at the 2022 Winter Olympics before December 22, Canada is now +500.
There will be no Alex Pietrangelo. Instead, fans will be looking to a man that is tipped to replace him in the future — Owen Power. The NCAA rearguard is some talent, and this could be his chance to prove his potential on the biggest stage of them all.
Connor McDavid and Sidney Crosby might not be on the ice. Still, the Canadians will put up a fight and could do better than expected.
After all, there is a lot of pride on the line!
