2022 US Open Cup QFs Betting Preview with Odds and Predictions

The 2022 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup quarterfinals are on the horizon. Between June 21 and 29, the remaining eight teams will battle it out for a place in the last four.
You probably won’t be surprised to learn that six Major League Soccer teams remain in the competition. LA Galaxy, Nashville SC, New York City, New York Red Bulls, Orlando City, and Sporting Kansas City are all still in contention for the trophy.
Elsewhere, there a two non-MLS teams hoping to upset the 2022 US Open Cup odds. Those teams are on the USL Championship side – the Sacramento Republic and Union Omaha of USL League One – the third tier of US soccer!
Today, I will be looking at the latest odds for the 2022 US Open Cup winner. I will also be sharing my predictions for the quarterfinals before providing my final US Open Cup prediction.
Before we go any further, though, we need to discuss where to bet on the US Open Cup.

2022 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup Cup Odds (Outright Winner)
I took these outright winner odds for the 2022 US Open Cup from the BetOnline sportsbook. As you can see, BetOnline views New York City (+100) as the clear favorite to lift the trophy.
LA Galaxy (+350) and New York Red Bulls (+500) are seen as NYCFC’s nearest challengers. Funnily enough, the New York rivals clash in the quarterfinals. The winner of that tie will stand an excellent chance of going all the way.
Naturally, Sacramento Republic (+5000) and Union Omaha (+5000) are the rank outsiders. The only two non-MLS teams remaining in the competition will have to produce something special to upset the US Open Cup odds for 2022.
Now that we’re up to speed on the 2022 US Open Cup odds let’s assess the quarterfinal draw before predicting the outcome of each tie.
Schedule for the 2022 US Open Cup Quarterfinals
The quarterfinal action gets underway on Tuesday, June 21, with the Galaxy hosting the Sacramento Republic. We then have the small matter of the Hudson River Derby on Wednesday, June 22, and the clash between SKC and Union Omaha.
We have to wait until the following Wednesday for the quarterfinals to conclude, as Orlando and Nashville go head-to-head in Florida. You can check out the full 2022 US Open Cup quarterfinals schedule below.
- LA Galaxy vs. Sacramento Republic (Tuesday, June 21)
- New York Red Bulls vs. New York City (Wednesday, June 22)
- Sporting Kansas City vs. Union Omaha (Wednesday, June 22)
- Orlando City vs. Nashville SC (Wednesday, June 29)
Although the bookies have yet to release their US Open Cup quarterfinals odds, we can learn a lot from the outright winner odds for the 2022 US Open Cup. LA Galaxy, NYCFC, SKC, and Orlando are all favored to advance.
Be sure to keep an eye on the best online sportsbooks for the US Open Cup quarterfinals odds. In the meantime, please keep reading to discover my US Open Cup predictions for the quarterfinals and beyond.
My 2022 US Open Cup Quarterfinal Predictions
It’s time to dive into my predictions for the US Open Cup quarterfinals. Below, I cover all four ties and attempt to predict who will reach the semifinals. I will then wrap things up by sharing my final US Open Cup prediction for 2022.
LA Galaxy vs. Sacramento Republic Prediction
Sacramento Republic has already exceeded expectations this year as the only USL Championship team left in the competition. But can the Californians mock the US Open Cup quarterfinals odds?
Mark Briggs’ boys kicked off their US Open Cup campaign with a 6-0 thrashing of Portland U23 before knocking out Central Valley Fuego (2-1) and Phoenix Rising (2-0). They dispatched the San Jose Earthquakes in the previous round, beating the MLS outfit 2-0.

In the USL Championship, Republic sits sixth in the Western Conference – eight points behind first-place Colorado Springs. Only two sides in the West have suffered fewer defeats this season.
As for the Galaxy, they find themselves fifth in the MLS Western Conference. The five-time MLS Cup champions have won seven of their 14 league games this year, meaning only first-place LAFC has claimed more victories.
Funnily enough, the Galaxy beat LAFC 3-1 to book their spot in the US Open Cup quarterfinals. Having crushed Austin FC 4-1 in their last MLS encounter, they should prove to be too strong for second-tier Sacramento.
- My Prediction for LA Galaxy vs. Sacramento Republic: LA Galaxy to Win
New York Red Bulls vs. New York City Prediction
The Hudson River Derby is one of the fiercest rivalries in Major League Soccer, so it’s always a spicy occasion. That said, there will be an extra bit of spice when the two New York foes meet in the US Open Cup quarterfinals.
The Red Bulls have already seen off two MLS clubs to reach the last eight, dispatching DC United (3-0) and Charlotte FC (3-1). However, they suffered a 2-0 loss to Charlotte in their most recent MLS outing.
On the flip side, New York City knocked out the New England Revolution in the previous round. NYCFC enjoys a six-game winning streak in all competitions, thanks to that victory.
When you look at the bigger picture, the Bronx Blues have avoided defeat in each of their past 11 games. As a result, they find themselves atop the Eastern Conference – one point clear of second-place Philadelphia and three points ahead of fourth-place RBNY.
Valentin Castellanos has already bagged 11 goals and five assists this season. In comparison, Thiago Andrade (6 goals, 3 assists), Santiago Rodriguez (5 goals, 7 assists), and Talles Magno (5 goals, 4 assists) has also starred in the attack.
I’m confident that Castellanos and co. will be too hot for the Red Bulls to handle. Of course, RBNY will put up a decent fight. But I expect the blue side of NYC to claim the Big Apple bragging rights.
- New York Red Bulls vs. New York City Prediction: New York City to Win
Sporting Kansas City vs. Union Omaha Prediction
It seems crazy that a team from the third tier of the US soccer system has reached the quarterfinals of the US Open Cup. But Union Omaha isn’t here simply to make up the numbers; the Nebraskans will do everything in their power to upset the US Open Cup QFs odds.
The Owls will fancy their chances of overcoming Sporting KC, having already knocked out two MLS teams en route to the quarterfinals. After beating Chicago Fire on penalties, they secured a famous 2-1 win over Minnesota United in the previous round.
Still, the QFs may prove to be a step too far for the third-tier outfit. After all, no MLS team has claimed more Lamar Hunt US Open Cup titles than SKC.
TEAMS WITH MULTIPLE US OPEN CUP TITLES | ||
---|---|---|
Team | US Open Cup Titles | Years |
Chicago Fire | 4 | 1998, 2000, 2003, 2006 |
Seattle Sounders | 4 | 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014 |
Sporting Kansas City | 4 | 2004, 2012, 2015, 2017 |
DC United | 3 | 1996, 2008, 2013 |
FC Dallas | 2 | 1997, 2016 |
LA Galaxy | 2 | 2001, 2005 |
As the table above details, the Wizards have lifted the trophy on four occasions over the years – most recently in 2017. They will be confident seeing off Union Omaha after clinching three of the past eight titles.
Granted, Peter Vermes’ men are enduring a difficult MLS campaign. But they know what it takes to go all the way in the US Open Cup. Union Omaha should be no match for the top-flight giant.
- My Prediction for Sporting Kansas City vs. Union Omaha: Sporting Kansas City to Win
Orlando City vs. Nashville SC Prediction
This is arguably the most difficult quarterfinal to predict. With just a single point separating the teams in the Supporters’ Shield standings, there is very little between Orlando and Nashville right now.
Orlando’s US Open Cup campaign began with a 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Oscar Pareja’s men have since dispatched two MLS sides – Philadelphia Union and Inter Miami – to reach the quarterfinals.
On the other hand, Nashville beat Atlanta United 3-2 in the round of 32 before defeating Louisville City 2-1 in the round of 16. It’s fair to say that Gary Smith’s boys have enjoyed a favorable route to the last eight.
This is destined to be a close-fought battle between two evenly matched teams. However, there is no hiding the fact that Nashville is in better form than Orlando at the moment.
With Hany Mukhtar (8 goals, 4 assists) and CJ Sapong (6 goals, 3 assists) leading the way for the team from Tennessee, I can see Orlando’s US Open Cup journey ending at the quarterfinal stage.
- Orlando City vs. Nashville SC Prediction: Nashville SC to Win
Who Will Win the US Open Cup in 2022?
If my US Open Cup quarterfinals predictions come to fruition, LA Galaxy, New York City, Sporting Kansas City, and Nashville SC will be the semifinalists. But who will lift the trophy?
At this moment in time, it isn’t easy to look past New York City. The 2022 US Open Cup odds suggest that NYCFC is the strongest team left in the competition – and you can’t exactly argue with the bookies’ viewpoint.
The Wizards have the easiest quarterfinal tie possible, as they host third-tier Union Omaha at Children’s Mercy Park. I fully expect them to make light work of the Owls, meaning they will only be two wins away from securing the silverware.
My safe US Open Cup bet is New York City. But if you’re feeling lucky, why not go back to Sporting Kansas City to go all the way?
