Best Soccer Transfers You Need to Bet on This Summer (2022)

| June 22, 2022 7:12 am PDT
soccer players, question marks, kicking a goal

The 2021-22 season is over for all the big European soccer leagues. So, let the transfer madness commence!

Every summer, countless players switch clubs. Some transfers are as discreet as a bull in a china shop, whereas others come out of the blue. Either way, betting on soccer transfers can land you a tasty profit.

Many of the top soccer betting sites have released their 2022 soccer transfer odds. Accordingly, I scoured the bookies’ prices to find the best possible value. Read on to discover my soccer transfer predictions.

Who will sign Robert Lewandowski? Where will Gareth Bale go? Could Christian Eriksen make an emotional return to Tottenham? And will anyone prize Declan Rice away from West Ham?

Join me as I go over ten summer soccer transfers worth betting on.

Robert Lewandowski

Robert Lewandowski
  • Barcelona (1.33)
  • Paris Saint-Germain (6.00)
  • Chelsea (11.00)
  • Liverpool (15.00)
  • Manchester United (17.00)

Last month, Robert Lewandowski stunned the soccer world when he publicly stated his desire to leave Bayern Munich this summer.

The Polish striker joined Bayern from Borussia Dortmund in 2014. Since then, he has fired the club to eight consecutive Bundesliga titles and UEFA Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup triumphs.

Lewandowski has scored an outrageous 344 goals in 374 games for Bayern Munich. On top of that, he has scored 76 goals in 132 appearances for Poland. He could even win the 2022 FIFA World Cup Golden Boot at that rate.

Naturally, Lewandowski won’t be short of suitors this summer. But where will he go?

According to the soccer transfer odds, Barcelona is the frontrunner to secure Lewandowski’s signature. Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United are also in contention, but Camp Nou is his favored destination.

At the end of the day, a move to Barcelona makes sense. The Catalans need reinforcements in attack, while PSG, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Man Utd already have multiple forwards in their ranks.

  • Pick: Barcelona (1.33)

Christian Eriksen

Christian Eriksen
  • Tottenham Hotspur (1.80)
  • Manchester United (2.20)
  • Newcastle United (21.00)
  • Leicester City (34.00)
  • Everton (34.00)

The fact that Christian Eriksen’s name is being mentioned among this year’s summer soccer transfers is a miracle in itself.

Just over 12 months ago, the Denmark international suffered a cardiac arrest while representing his country at the European Championship. Fast-forward to today – he is fully fit and ready to start the next chapter of his remarkable career.

After bagging 32 goals and 65 assists in 163 games for Ajax, Eriksen racked up 69 goals and 90 assists in 305 games for Tottenham Hotspur. In 2020, he joined Inter Milan and won the Serie A title.

The 30-year-old spent the second half of the previous campaign at Brentford. However, with all due respect to Brentford, Eriksen needs to be playing at a higher level.

An emotional return to Tottenham option, but I can see Eriksen signing for Man Utd before the start of the 2022-23 Premier League season. The Red Devils are in need of a squad rebuild – and Eriksen could be the perfect addition.

  • Pick: Manchester United (2.20)

Declan Rice

Declan Rice
  • No Transfer (1.30)
  • Manchester United (4.33)
  • Chelsea (5.50)
  • Manchester City (7.00)
  • Newcastle United (26.00)

When it comes to discussing which players will get transferred this summer, Declan Rice’s name invariably gets mentioned. Why? Because he is one of the most highly-rated young midfielders in the game.

Earlier this year, West Ham manager David Moyes slapped a £150 million price tag on Rice. Very few clubs can afford to meet that valuation, meaning only the wealthiest owners will be prepared the splash the cash on Rice.

At just 23, the midfielder has already made 193 appearances for West Ham United. He also has 32 international caps for England under his belt, proving that he is ready for a big-money move.

Having recently led the Hammers to the UEFA Europa League final, Rice may opt to stay at the London Stadium. Of course, the allure of Premier League giants such as Man Utd, Chelsea, and Man City is huge. But he is still young.

EPL transfers always grab the headlines, but I expect Rice to stay put. He is destined to join an elite club in due course. However, I can’t see any club forking out £150 million this summer.

  • Pick: No Transfer (1.30)

Gareth Bale

Gareth Bale
  • Cardiff City (1.36)
  • Getafe (4.50)
  • Newcastle United (11.00)
  • Nottingham Forest (11.00)
  • Any MLS Club (12.00)

There are plenty of potential summer soccer transfers on the cards, but the Gareth Bale saga is undoubtedly one of the craziest situations in the sport.

During his nine-year stay at Real Madrid, Bale won everything. But after securing five Champions League crowns, three La Liga titles, and three Club World Cup triumphs, the world-class winger is favored to join… Cardiff City.

As far as 2022 soccer transfers go, Bale’s potential move to Cardiff is up there with the strangest. Sure, Bale was born in the Welsh capital. But Cardiff plays in the Championship – the second tier of English soccer.

A move to Getafe is also a possibility, while Newcastle is another potential destination. However, I like the look of Nottingham Forest at 11.00.

Forest is back in the Premier League after gaining promotion via the Championship play-offs. The Tricky Trees will be looking to bolster their squad for the season ahead, so they will surely consider a move for Bale.

With the World Cup on the horizon, the 32-year-old wants regular first-team action in the lead-up to the tournament. Forest can offer Bale consistent game time – and Bale can offer Forest goals and assists in return.

  • Pick: Nottingham Forest (11.00)

Jesse Lingard

Jesse Lingard
  • West Ham United (2.25)
  • Newcastle United (3.75)
  • AS Roma (4.33)
  • Sevilla (7.50)
  • Inter Milan (10.00)

Jesse Lingard is set to leave Man Utd when his contract expires on July 1, meaning he is among the soccer players that will get transferred this summer. But who will sign Lingard?

The soccer transfer odds at the best online gambling sites suggest that West Ham, Newcastle, and AS Roma are the frontrunners, with Sevilla and Inter also in the mix. In my eyes, though, West Ham is in pole position.

Let’s not forget that Lingard enjoyed a hugely successful loan spell at West Ham during the 2020-21 campaign, bagging nine goals and five assists in 15 Premier League appearances.

Games Goals Assists Minutes Minutes Per G/A
15 9 4 1,335 95

The 29-year-old struggled for game time last season, making just two EPL starts for the Red Devils. Needless to say, a player of Lingard’s caliber needs to be playing consistently.

Ultimately, Lingard to West Ham makes perfect sense. The Hammers already know that Lingard can produce the goods in the claret and blue jersey. As for Lingard, he knows that Moyes will give him plenty of game time.

  • Pick: West Ham United (2.25)

Luis Suarez

Luis Suarez
  • Aston Villa (2.38)
  • River Plate (2.63)
  • Atalanta (5.00)
  • Fiorentina (5.50)
  • Lazio (6.50)

As you can see, Aston Villa and River Plate are expected to battle it out for Luis Suarez’s signature. A move to Italy with Atalanta, Fiorentina, or Lazio is also possible. But there are two clear frontrunners here.

Suarez is on the verge of leaving Atletico Madrid following two years in the Spanish capital. As one of the best forwards of his generation, he will be one of the highest-profile summer soccer transfers this year.

With Steven Gerrard managing Aston Villa, it is easy to understand why Suarez is linked with the Villains. Gerrard and Suarez played together at Liverpool between 2011 and 2014, during which time they cemented their status among the best EPL players in history.

Ranking the Top 20 English Premier League Players in History

Who are the best Premier League players of all time? Frankly, you could spend hours trying to answer that question. Ever since the league’s inauguration back in 1992, countless world-class stars have showcased their talents in the top tier of English...

You can also understand why River Plate is one of the favorites to sign Suarez. The forward hails from Uruguay, meaning he could favor a return to South America.

That said, it wouldn’t be a massive shock if Suarez moved to Italy. Having starred in both the English Premier League and Spain’s La Liga, he may want to prove himself in Serie A.

With that in mind, Fiorentina’s price of 5.50 stands out to me. Aston Villa already has several top-class forwards. On the flip side, Fiorentina needs a striker following Dusan Vlahovic’s mid-season switch to Juventus.

  • Pick: Fiorentina (5.50)

  • Barcelona (2.88)
  • Arsenal (5.00)
  • Tottenham Hotspur (5.50)
  • Liverpool (10.00)
  • Newcastle United (13.00)

When it comes to making soccer transfer predictions – and betting on soccer transfers for real money – it pays to listen to people in the know. After all, the sheer volume of transfer rumors makes it challenging to find trustworthy information.

One person you can trust is Fabrizio Romano. Boasting over 8.7 million followers, Romano has one of the best soccer accounts to follow on Twitter. The journalist invariably breaks transfer news before anyone else, giving us invaluable insight.

So, when Romano posted the following Tweet, I instantly checked the bookies’ soccer transfer odds for Raphinha’s prices.

Although Arsenal and Tottenham are reportedly interested in Raphinha, it is clear that Barcelona is in the driver’s seat. As per Romano, the Spanish giant agreed on a deal with the player’s agent back in February.

Despite the threat of relegation, Raphinha managed to rack up 11 goals and three assists in a struggling Leeds United team last season. It goes without saying that he is destined for bigger and better things.

I’m confident Barca will sign the Brazilian winger before the 2022-23 campaign starts.

  • Pick: Barcelona (2.88)

Oleksandr Zinchenko

Oleksandr Zinchenko
  • Everton (2.50)
  • Arsenal (4.50)
  • West Ham United (13.00)
  • Newcastle United (13.00)
  • Tottenham Hotspur (15.00)

Oleksandr Zinchenko has been an excellent servant for Man City since arriving at the Etihad Stadium in 2016. He may not be the biggest name in the squad, but he has helped the club win four EPL titles, four EFL Cups, and one FA Cup.

However, the Ukrainian has fallen down the pecking order recently. As a result, he has been linked with several Premier League transfers.

The soccer transfer odds indicate that Everton is the favorite to secure Zinchenko’s signature, followed by Arsenal. West Ham, Newcastle, and Tottenham are viewed as outsiders.

Last season, Everton finished sixteenth in the EPL table – four points above the relegation zone. At the opposite end of the standings, Arsenal finished fifth – two points shy of the Champions League places.

I think Zinchenko is far too good to play for a relegation-threatened team. The versatile left-footer has proved he belongs at the top of the game, so I expect him to sign for Arsenal this summer.

  • Pick: Arsenal (4.50)

Ruben Neves

Ruben Neves
  • Barcelona (2.75)
  • Arsenal (5.00)
  • Manchester United (6.00)
  • Newcastle United (13.00)
  • Tottenham Hotspur (15.00)

As you may have noticed, Barcelona is favored to sign many players this summer. The Catalans have experienced damaging financial problems in recent years, but they are shopping in the transfer market once again.

Another player on Barca’s radar is Ruben Neves. The Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder has been at Molineux since 2017, but it feels like he is ready to join an elite club.

When predicting transfers in soccer, it makes sense to analyze the squads of all the potential suitors. So, who needs Neves the most?

With Sergio Busquets, Pedri, and Gavi at Barcelona, does Xavi need another hard-working midfielder? I don’t think so. Elsewhere, Arsenal already has Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka, and Sambi Lokonga occupying Neves’ preferred position.

By contrast, Man Utd has been crying out for a tough-tackling midfielder for years. Paul Pogba is set to depart Old Trafford, leaving Scott McTominay and Fred to pick up the pieces. Neves could fill the Pogba-shaped hole in United’s midfield.

  • Pick: Manchester United (6.00)

Tammy Abraham

Tammy Abraham
  • Liverpool (3.50)
  • Newcastle United (4.00)
  • Arsenal (4.33)
  • Southampton (5.00)
  • West Ham United (5.00)

Funnily enough, one of the biggest 2022 soccer transfers could involve a player who only switched clubs in 2021. The man in question? Tammy Abraham.

After failing to cement a place in Chelsea’s starting XI, Abraham swapped London for Roma last year. Under Jose Mourinho, the striker has reignited his career in Italy.

During the 2021-22 campaign, Abraham netted 26 goals in all competitions – including 17 in 37 Serie A games. He also fired Roma to UEFA Europa Conference League glory, scoring eight goals in 12 UECL outings.

Competition Games Goals Assists
Serie A 37 17 4
Conference League 12 8
Coppa Italia 2 1 1
UECL Qualifiers 1
Total 52 26 5

Having already bagged 74 goals across the top two tiers of English soccer, Abraham clearly knows what it takes to find the back of the net. So, it’s no wonder Liverpool, Newcastle, Arsenal, Southampton, and West Ham are linked with him.

From my perspective, a move to West Ham makes the most sense. It is no secret that Moyes needs another striker to compete with Michail Antonio so that he can make a bid for Abraham.

  • Pick: West Ham United (5.00)
