As we approach the business end of the 2022 Premier League Darts campaign, the competition is beginning to heat up. With 12 nights of pulsating action behind us, there are just four rounds remaining before the play-offs.

Defending champion Jonny Clayton finds himself atop the table after reaching three of the past five finals. However, Michael van Gerwen, James Wade, and Peter Wright remain within touching distance of the current frontrunner.

The top darts betting sites have updated their 2022 Premier League Darts odds ahead of the run-in. Accordingly, I have decided to examine the latest prices and find the best PL Darts picks for the rest of the season.

You can find my 2022 Premier League darts prediction and the end of this post. Before we get to that, let’s check out the PL Darts odds and analyze the contenders.

Latest Premier League Darts Odds (2022)

  • Michael van Gerwen (3.00)
  • Jonny Clayton (3.50)
  • Peter Wright (4.50)
  • James Wade (5.50)
  • Gerwyn Price (12.00)
  • Joe Cullen (21.00)
  • Michael Smith (67.00)
  • Gary Anderson (251.00)

I found these updated Premier League Darts betting odds at Betway. If you’re looking for the best PL darts odds online, look no further than Betway’s sportsbook.

As you can see, there are four clear favorites at this moment in time. Betway views Machael van Gerwen (3.00) as the slight favorite, but Jonny Clayton (3.50), Peter Wright (4.50), and James Wade (5.50) are not far behind.

Gerwyn Price (12.00) remains in contention for the title, as does Joe Cullen (21.00). Although Price sits second in the PDC Order of Merit, the world #2 finds himself seven points outside the top four in the Premier League.

Michael Smith (67.00) heads into Night 13 as a big underdog, while Gary Anderson (251.00) is the rank outsider. They will need a minor miracle in order to qualify for the play-offs.

Current 2022 Premier League Darts Table

Before we take a closer look at the contenders, we need to assess the PL Darts table. This will give us a good indication of who to back when it comes to locking in those Premier League Darts predictions for 2022.

Jonny Clayton

Michael van Gerwen

James Wade

Peter Wright

Joe Cullen

Gerwyn Price

Michael Smith

Gary Anderson

Clayton is sitting pretty at the summit of the PL Darts standings with 29 points to his name. The reigning champ claimed victories on Night 2, Night 8, and Night 11 before reaching – but losing – another final last time out.

Like Clayton, van Gerwen also has three triumphs under his belt. MVG sits level with James Wade on 25 points – three points behind Clayton and five points clear of Wright.

Cullen and Price find themselves just outside the top four, having picked up 20 points and 17 points, respectively. With ten points to his name, Smith leads Anderson by three points.

Analyzing the Premier League Darts Betting Favorites for 2022

The 2022 Premier League Darts odds at Betway imply that van Gerwen, Clayton, Wright, and Wade are in a league of their own. It’s time to find out why they are the frontrunners to lift the trophy this year.

Michael van Gerwen (3.00)

Although van Gerwen trails Clayton by four points in the standings, the Dutchman is the bookmakers’ favorite to secure the silverware. Why? Because he already has five Premier League titles to his name.

“Mighty Mike” won the first of his PL titles in 2013 before notching four consecutive triumphs between 2016 and 2019. That tells you everything you need to know about his love affair with this tournament.

Phil Taylor

Michael van Gerwen

Gary Anderson

James Wade

Raymond van Barneveld

Glen Durrant

Jonny Clayton

After reaching the semi-finals on Night 2 and Night 3, van Gerwen won Night 4 and Night 5. Since then, he has reached three finals. If he carries on the way he’s going, he will secure a play-off spot in the not-too-distant future.

MVG is already viewed as one of the greatest darts players of all time. Winning another Premier League title will only enhance his standing in the sport.

Jonny Clayton (3.50)

By his own high standards, Clayton made a slow start to the tournament. Despite reaching the first two finals, he only managed to reach one semi-final between Night 3 and Night 7.

However, the defending champion has rediscovered his best form in recent weeks. “The Ferret” has qualified for the semi-finals in each of the previous six rounds and has also featured in three of the past five finals – winning on two occasions.

  • Michael van Gerwen: 69
  • Jonny Clayton: 30
  • Peter Wright: 83
  • Gerwyn Price: 77

As you can see, only van Gerwen has a better average than Clayton. Given van Gerwen’s recent domination of this tournament, Clayton’s will be pleased with his numbers.

Not only did Clayton win the Premier League title last year, but he also triumphed at the World Grand Prix, Masters, and World Series of Darts Finals in 2021. As a result, he is now regarded one of the best arrowmen on the planet.

Peter Wright (4.50)

Wright has won just about everything there is to win over the past few years. Nonetheless, the two-time World Champion is still searching for his first Premier League crown.

Since 2019, “Snakebite” has won no fewer than eight major events. But the PL title continues to elude him. Having lost to van Gerwen in the 2017 final, he will be desperate to make his mark on the tournament this year.

Wright triumphed on Night 1 but has failed to secure another victory since then. Believe it or not, the reigning world champ has suffered five semi-final exits across the previous seven rounds.

Thanks to his consistency, Wright rarely misses out on the semi-finals. But if he wants to get his hands on the top prize, he will need to up his game.

James Wade (5.50)

It could be argued that James Wade is playing some of the best darts of his career right now. The 39-year-old made a slow start to the tournament, but after reaching four of the last five finals, he is now among the favorites to lift the trophy.

After finishing as the runner-up on Night 8 and Night 9, Wade triumphed on Night 10 and Night 12. Last time out, he claimed a hugely impressive 6-5 win over Clayton in Dublin.

Best Checkout Percentages in 2022
  • James Wade: 43%
  • Michael van Gerwen: 41%
  • Michael Smith: 41%
  • Gary Anderson: 41%

When I published my 2022 Premier League Darts betting preview, Wade was the bookies’ rank outsider at 21.00. Fast-forward to today – he is priced at 5.50 to win the title.

If you backed Wade prior to the start of the tournament, then you could land a tasty profit if he goes all the way. But even if you’re late to the party, backing Wade now at 5.50 still looks like a great option – judging by his recent performances.

Could an Outsider Upset the 2022 PL Darts Odds?

Having analyzed the 2022 PL Darts betting favorites, it’s only right that we also look at the outsiders. There are some huge names in the bottom half of the table, so we can’t write off the chasing pack.

Gerwyn Price (12.00)

Price made a promising start to the campaign but has struggled for consistency of late. Since triumphing on Night 3, the Welshman has only reached the semi-finals on three occasions and was even forced to withdraw from Night 5 due to COVID-19.

Still, there is no hiding the fact that Priced is ranked #2 in the world at the moment. The 2021 World Champion also won the Grand Slam of Darts last year, so he knows what it takes to win silverware.

Crucially, “The Iceman” remains within touching distance of the top four. If he can reach a couple of finals between now and the end of the regular season, he could sneak into the play-offs. If he gets there, you would be a fool to write him off.

Joe Cullen (21.00)

It’s fair to say that Cullen is enjoying a solid debut Premier League Darts campaign. I mean, the 32-year-old has reached three finals – winning one and losing two.

As a result, Cullen is the closest outsider to the top four. But despite sitting five points outside the play-off places and two points ahead of Price, Cullen’s odds to win the 2022 Premier League are far higher than Price’s.

Of course, Cullen has not won the titles that Price has claimed over the years. But he is better placed to challenge for a play-off berth at the moment. Having won The Masters earlier this year, Cullen will be confident of beating the Premier League Darts betting odds.

Michael Smith (67.00)

Smith is the only player who has yet to win a round this year. Although he reached the final on Night 5 and Night 6, he remains ten points outside the top four ahead of Night 13.

To make matters worse, “Bully Boy” has failed to reach the semi-finals in five of their previous six rounds. He would need to win at least two of the final four rounds – and hope that other players slip up – to stand any chance reaching the play-offs.

Gary Anderson (251.00)

Between 2011 and 2016, “The Flying Scotsman” claimed two Premier League titles as well as back-to-back World Championship Crowns. Despite his best efforts in the PL this year, he looks like a shadow of his former self.

Granted, Anderson won Night 6 in Nottingham. But he has only reached the semi-finals on two occasions this year. It’s no wonder that he finds himself 13 points adrift of the top four!

Anderson may be responsible for some of the greatest darts moments of all time, but I can’t see him producing any more memorable moments this season.

My 2022 Premier League Darts Prediction

Although van Gerwen is the bookies’ current favorite, Clayton and Wade are throwing the best darts at right now. While MVG failed to reach in the semi-finals on Night 10 and Night 12, Wade beat Clayton in the previous final.

In my eyes, it feels like the momentum is with Wade at the moment. Not only has “The Machine” reached four of the last five finals, but he has also won two of the previous three.

Wade is my current 2022 Premier League Darts prediction, but that could change in the coming weeks. With MVG, Clayton, and Wright also on course to reach the play-offs, Wade won’t have it all his own way between now and the end of the season.

Be sure to keep an eye on our darts blog as the campaign unfolds. If I find any worthwhile Premier League Darts betting opportunities, I will definitely share them with you!
