MLS Cup Odds Update and Analysis for 2022

Can you believe that we are already approaching the halfway point in the 2022 Major League Soccer regular season?
With Week 14 on the horizon, it feels like the perfect time to check out the latest MLS Cup betting odds. A lot has changed since the top soccer betting sites released their opening prices, so we need to stay up to speed.
In addition to examining the latest 2022 MLS odds, I will be looking at the current standings, analyzing the favorites and sleepers, and sharing my updated MLS Cup prediction.
So, who will win the 2022 MLS Cup? Let’s start by weighing up the MLS betting odds.
Latest 2022 MLS Cup Odds
According to the Major League Soccer odds at BetOnline, Los Angeles FC (+550) is in pole position to win the 2022 MLS Cup. The Californians find themselves atop the overall standings after winning eight of their 13 games this year.
BetOnline views New York City (+700) and Philadelphia Union (+1000) as LAFC’s nearest rivals. NYCFC and Philly occupy the top two places in the Eastern Conference, having recorded just four losses between them this season.
Seattle Sounders, Orlando City, LA Galaxy, FC Dallas, and New York Red Bulls are all priced at +1600, while New England Revolution, Portland Timbers, Real Salt Lake, CF Montreal, and Nashville SC are priced between +1800 and +2200.
Even teams like Atlanta United (+2800), Columbus Crew (+3300), Colorado Rapids (+3300), and Minnesota United (+3300) remain in contention for the title. The current MLS Cup odds may suggest otherwise, but there is still a long way to go.
Now that you’re up to speed on the latest 2022 MLS odds, it’s time to study the standings.
Current Major League Soccer 2022 Standings
Philadelphia sits at the summit of the Eastern Conference after suffering a solitary defeat in 13 games. It is worth noting that every other team has registered at least three losses this season.
As you can see, New York City is keeping pace with the Union. Orlando, Montreal, and RBNY also remain within touching distance of Philly, while Cincinnati and Charlotte occupy the final playoff places in the East.
EASTERN CONFERENCE (TOP 7) | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Team | Games | Wins | Draws | Losses | Points |
Philadelphia Union | 13 | 6 | 6 | 1 | 24 |
New York City | 12 | 7 | 2 | 3 | 23 |
Orlando City | 13 | 6 | 3 | 4 | 21 |
CF Montreal | 13 | 6 | 2 | 5 | 20 |
New York Red Bulls | 13 | 5 | 5 | 3 | 20 |
FC Cincinnati | 13 | 6 | 1 | 6 | 19 |
Charlotte FC | 13 | 5 | 1 | 7 | 16 |
Over in the West, LAFC is sitting pretty atop the standings. The Californians have won more games than anyone else this year, so it’s no surprise that they find themselves atop the bookmakers’ MLS title odds.
All three Texas teams – Austin, Dallas, and Houston – are on course to clinch a playoff spot in the Western Conference. They are joined by Real Salt Lake, LA Galaxy, and Nashville in the top seven.
WESTERN CONFERENCE (TOP 7) | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Team | Games | Wins | Draws | Losses | Points |
Los Angeles FC | 13 | 8 | 2 | 3 | 26 |
Austin FC | 13 | 7 | 3 | 3 | 24 |
FC Dallas | 13 | 6 | 4 | 3 | 22 |
Real Salt Lake | 13 | 6 | 4 | 3 | 22 |
LA Galaxy | 13 | 6 | 2 | 5 | 20 |
Nashville SC | 13 | 5 | 4 | 4 | 19 |
Houston Dynamo | 13 | 5 | 3 | 5 | 18 |
Let’s take a closer look at the 2022 MLS Cup betting favorites. Once I’ve assessed the frontrunners, I will check out a few potential sleepers that could upset the 2022 MLS odds.
Analyzing the 2022 MLS Cup Betting Favorites
If the latest MLS betting odds are anything to go by, LAFC, New York City, and Philadelphia are the teams to beat right now. Can the three frontrunners live up to expectations? It’s time to analyze the current MLS Cup betting favorites.
Los Angeles FC (+550)
Steve Cherundolo’s boys lost just one of their opening ten games this year, picking up seven wins and two draws along the way. Despite winning one of their previous four outings, they remain at the summit of the overall standings.
When I shared my 2022 MLS award predictions, I backed Carlos Vela to win Comeback Player of the Year. Having already bagged six goals and two assists this season, the legendary Mexican is well on his way to claiming that award.
Elite company. 💯

Thanks mainly to Vela’s exploits, the 2019 Supporters’ Shield winners are the second-highest scorers in the league. If they carry on the way they’re going, they could go one better this time around.
New York City (+700)
After securing the 2021 MLS Cup, it’s fair to say that New York City made a slow start to the 2022 campaign. The defending champions managed to win just one of their first five games, suffering three defeats in the process.
Since then, however, Ronny Deila’s men have been immense. Not only have they won six of their past seven MLS outings, but they have also kept six clean sheets! As a result, Sean Johnson has achieved more shutouts than any other goalkeeper in 2022.
- Sean Johnson, New York City – 7
- Andre Blake, Philadelphia Union – 6
- Pedro Gallese, Orlando City – 6
- William Yarbrough, Colorado Rapids – 6
- Jonathan Bond, LA Galaxy – 5
- Gaga Slonina, Chicago Fire – 5
At the opposite end of the field, Valentin Castellanos (7 goals, 1 assist), Thiago Andrade (4 goals, 1 assist), Santiago Rodriguez (2 goals, 4 assists), and Talles Magno (2 goals, 4 assists) have helped the Boys in Blue become the joint-top scorers in the East.
Philadelphia Union (+1000)
Philadelphia has suffered fewer losses than any other side this season. Following a run of just one defeat in 13 games, the Union occupies first place in the Eastern Conference.
Granted, five teams in the East have scored more goals than Philly this year. But if Andre Blake continues to rack up more clean sheets, there is no reason why the Union can’t challenge for the MLS Cup.
Potential MLS Cup Sleepers for 2022
All best Major League Soccer betting sites view LAFC, New York City, and Philadelphia as the current favorites for the title. But with more than half of the season remaining, a lot can change between now and the end of the campaign.
Thanks to BetOnline’s generous MLS Cup betting odds, there are plenty of sleepers to keep an eye on. In my eyes, the following teams stand an excellent chance of beating the MLS championship’s odds.
Seattle Sounders (+1600)
It is no secret that Seattle has made a below-par start to the 2022 MLS season. But after becoming the first Major League Soccer club to win the CONCACAF Champions League, the Sounders are clearly a top team.

— Major League Soccer (@MLS) May 5, 2022
In fact, when ranking every Major League Soccer expansion team, I put Seattle right at the very top of the pile. Let’s not forget that they have reached four of the previous six MLS Cup finals, triumphing in 2016 and 2019.
Due to their CONCACAF Champions League commitments, the Sounders have games in hand over everyone else in the West. It is surely only a matter of time before they find themselves in playoff places.
FC Dallas (+1600)
Only four teams have accumulated more points than Dallas this season. Better still, just five sides have scored more goals. Paul Arriola (4 goals, 3 assists) has shone following his move from DC United, but there is no denying that Jesus Ferreira has been the star of the show.
TOP GOALSCORERS – 2022 MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER | ||
---|---|---|
Player | Team | Goals |
Jesus Ferreira | FC Dallas | 9 |
Sebastian Driussi | Austin FC | 8 |
Adam Buksa | New England Revolution | 7 |
Valentin Castellanos | New York City | 7 |
Jeremy Ebobisse | San Jose Earthquakes | 7 |
Ferreira finds himself atop the Golden Boot leaderboard after netting nine goals in 13 appearances. This year, the USMNT forward has notched one hat-trick and two braces, putting Dallas in an excellent position to challenge silverware.
New England Revolution (+1800)
It is easy to forget that New England claimed the 2021 Supporters’ Shield in record-breaking style. I mean, the Revs have made a wildly inconsistent start to the 2022 campaign – registering four wins, three draws, and five losses.
However, Bruce Arena’s men have lost just one of their last six MLS outings and have won four of their previous seven in all competitions. Consequently, they are now only one point outside the top seven in the East. I expect them to kick on from here on out.
FC Cincinnati (+4000)
There is no hiding the fact that FC Cincinnati is one of the worst teams in MLS history. Having collected three consecutive Wooden Spoons, the Ohioans were not expected to get anywhere near the top prize this year.
But after winning four of their past five MLS outings, Pat Noonan’s boys are on course for a playoff spot. With Brandon Vazquez (7 goals, 2 assists) and Luciano Acosta (5 goals, 1 assist) leading the way, Cincy could mock the 2022 MLS odds.
My Updated 2022 MLS Cup Prediction
As we approach the midway point in the 2022 Major League Soccer regular season, it feels like any number of teams could lift the trophy on November 5.
According to the latest 2022 MLS Cup odds, LAFC is in pole position. But it is important to remember that there are still several months between now and the playoffs. Can the 2019 Supporters’ Shield winners finally get their hands on the top prize?
That said, plenty of outsiders could upset the MLS Cup betting odds. Make sure you keep an eye on teams like Seattle, Dallas, and New England when making your MLS Cup prediction for 2022.
That concludes my MLS Cup odds update ahead of Week 14 if you’re looking for more general tips and strategies for predicting a league champion, head over to our soccer betting guide.
