The Catalans made a terrible start to the previous campaign by their own high standards. After winning just four of their opening 12 games, they found themselves all the way down in ninth place.

The Green and Whites claimed fifth place last season, finishing three points clear of sixth-place Sociedad and six points ahead of seventh-place Villarreal. They also racked up more victories and more goals than Sevilla.

Having won the 2021-22 Copa del Rey, Betis will be hungry for more silverware. Thankfully, the club is managed by the uber-experienced Manuel Pellegrini – who led Manchester City to the 2013-14 English Premier League title.

Maybe it’s the soccer romantic in me, but I would Valencia to win the La Liga title once again.

Valencia dominated Spanish soccer in the early 2000s, clinching two top-flight titles in three seasons between 2001-02 and 2003-04. They even reached two UEFA Champions League finals during the same era.

Since then, the fallen giant has registered eight top-four finishes but has failed to lift the trophy. Having bagged a hat-trick of third-place finishes in the 2010s, could this finally be the season that Valencia returns to the summit of Spanish soccer?

So, who will win La Liga in 2022-23?
