Thanks to the top cricket betting sites, you can already bet on IPL 2022. The leading online sportsbooks have released their Indian Premier League odds, meaning bettors can now wager on a wide variety of markets.

In this IPL cricket preview, I will be sharing my 2022 Indian Premier League predictions. My IPL cricket predictions cover all the bases, including the title winner, top run-scorer (Orange Cap), top wicket-taker (Purple Cap), MVP award, and a whole load more.

If you’re planning to bet on the Indian Premier League in 2022, my IPL predictions could help you win some money. Without further ado, let’s get this show on the road!

2022 IPL MVP Award Prediction – Rashid Khan

My first 2022 Indian Premier League prediction concerns the Most Valuable Player (MVP).

Many legends of the game have been crowned the IPL MVP since the tournament’s inception in 2008. From Sachin Tendulkar to Chris Gayle and from Andre Russell to Virat Kohli, only the very best players clinch the crown.

Harshal Patel scooped the prize last season, along with the Purple Cap. The Royal Challengers Bangalore paceman claimed a whopping 32 wickets in 15 IPL Indian Premier League cricket games – eight more than his nearest challenger.

I’m backing Rashid Khan to win the IPL MVP award this year.

Between 2017 and 2021, the Afghan superstar racked up 93 wickets in 76 IPL cricket matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad – cementing his status as one of the world’s best T20 players.

After disagreeing on terms with SRH, Rashid recently joined Gujarat Lions. Given his unrivaled ability with bat and ball, the gifted 23-year-old will be among the new franchise’s standout players.

The ICC Men’s T20I Player of the Decade is destined to shine in 2022. If he carries on the way he’s going, he could even go down as one of the greatest Indian Premier League players of all time.

Ranking the Best Indian Premier League Players of All Time

Ranking the best IPL players of all time is no easy task. I mean, just think of how many top-quality stars have lit up the Indian Premier League over the years. Since the IPL’s inception in 2008, the greatest T20 cricketers on the planet have smashed an...

Delhi Capitals Will Finish Top of the Table

Delhi Capitals finished atop the Indian Premier League standings last year thanks to a dominant regular season. There were several outstanding IPL cricket teams in 2021, but DC claimed more regular-season wins than any other side.

The Capitals won ten of their 14 IPL Premier League matches, posting an eye-catching net run rate of 0.481. Although they failed to reach the final, they were a force to be reckoned with throughout the campaign.

Indian Premier League bold predictions are always fun to make. In my eyes, backing DC to finish top of the table AGAIN is a bold IPL prediction. But I wouldn’t be overly surprised if it happened.

I mean, the Capitals’ squad is stacked. Here are just some of the standout names on the roster.

  • Prithvi Shaw
  • David Warner
  • Mandeep Singh
  • Rovman Powell
  • Axar Patel
  • Mitchell Marsh
  • Rishabh Pant
  • Tim Seifert
  • Kuldeep Yadav
  • Mustafizur Rahman
  • Anrich Nortje
  • Shardul Thakur
  • Khaleel Ahmed
  • Lungi Ngidi
  • Chetan Sakariya

DC finished top of the table in 2009 and 2012 before failing to make the playoffs between 2013 and 2018. However, they have since recorded finishes of 3rd (2019), 2nd (2020), and 1st (2021).

In recent years, the Capitals have been one of the most consistent IPL league teams. If you’re partaking in Indian Premier League betting in 2022, backing DC to finish atop the IPL standings could prove to be a smart move.

KL Rahul Will Be the Top Run-Scorer (Orange Cap)

From one of the most consistent Indian Premier League teams to one of the most dependable IPL players. The next of my 2022 Indian Premier League predictions concerns KL Rahul.

Over the past few years, Rahul has been one of the standout batters in the Indian Cricket Premier League. Following stints at RCB and SRH, the lethal opener took his game to another level at PBKS – scoring runs for a run.

Although Punjab Kings finished third from bottom in 2020, Rahul managed to clinch the Orange Cap. He scored 670 runs in 14 IPL league matches that season and even smashed a top score of 132*.

Player Team Innings Runs Sixes
KL Rahul PBKS 13 626 30
Faf du Plessis CSK 16 633 23
Ruturaj Gaikwad CSK 16 635 23
Glenn Maxwell RCB 14 513 21
Moeen Ali CSK 15 357 19

As the table above details, Rahul also hit the most sixes in last year’s tournament. After bludgeoning a colossal 30 maximums, he finished just nine runs behind CSK’s Ruturaj Gaikwad on the run-scoring leaderboard.

The 29-year-old left PBKS during the offseason. Since then, he has joined Lucknow Super Giants, one of the two new IPL franchises for 2022. Rahul will captain LSG, teaming up with international superstars like Marcus Stoinis, Jason Holder, and Quinton de Kock.

Rahul looks set to thrive in his new role, so much so that he could finish IPL 2022 as the top run-scorer. As soon as the 2022 Indian Premier League schedule gets announced, Rahul will be looking for opportunities to dominate his rivals.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Will Finish Bottom of the Table

When making IPL predictions, it is always difficult to pick the bottom team. Every squad is full of world-class players, making Indian Premier League cricket so special.

That said, the Sunrisers were undoubtedly the worst IPL cricket team last season. Not only did they pick up the fewest wins (3), but they also suffered the most losses (11). With a win percentage of just 21%, they finished four points adrift at the bottom of the IPL standings.

To make matters worse for the Sunrisers, they lost a host of star players in the IPL 2022 Auction. This year, they will be without David Warner, Jason Roy, Rashid Khan, Jason Holder, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

With both Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans joining the Indian Cricket Premier League in 2022, the competition will get even more challenging. Having lost multiple standout performers, SRH looks set to struggle.

This is by no means one of my favorite 2022 Indian Premier League predictions, as the Sunrisers are still a good team. But I can see them finishing at the bottom of the table for the second season.

Jasprit Bumrah Will Be the Top Wicket-Taker (Purple Cap)

Despite being one of the top IPL cricketers, Jasprit Bumrah has never secured the Purple Cap. The paceman was named the Player of the Match for his display in 2019 final, but he has yet to take the most wickets in a single IPL tournament.

The 28-year-old joined Mumbai Indians in 2013 and has claimed 130 wickets in 105 Indian Premier League matches across the past nine seasons. Last year, he broke into the top ten on the IPL’s all-time wicket-taking leaderboard.

After finishing seventh in the 2018 Purple Cap standings with 17 wickets, Bumrah secured fifth place in 2019 by taking 19 wickets. In 2020, he claimed a mammoth 27 scalps – only to finish three wickets shy of Kagiso Rabada.

Having racked up 20+ wickets for the second campaign in a row last season, there is a sense that Bumrah is on the verge of clinching his first-ever Purple Cap.

When you see my predictions for the IPL 2022 title winner, you will understand why I’m backing Bumrah to pick up the most wickets this season. I’m expecting big things from both Bumrah and Mumbai Indians this year.

Mumbai Indians Will Win the 2022 IPL Cricket Title

My Indian Premier League predictions for 2022 would not be complete without my pick for the title winner, right?

It is no secret that Mumbai Indians endured a below-par campaign last year. Despite finishing level with fourth-place KKR on 14 points, they missed out on the playoffs for only the fifth time in their history due to their inferior net run rate.

I headed into the 2021 season as the back-to-back champion, but things didn’t go to plan. However, I’m confident that Mahela Jayawardene’s team will bounce back in style this year.

Indian Premier League Winners Since MI’s First Title

  • 2013: Mumbai Indians
  • 2014: Kolkata Knight Riders
  • 2015: Mumbai Indians
  • 2016: Sunrisers Hyderabad
  • 2017: Mumbai Indians
  • 2018: Chennai Super Kings
  • 2019: Mumbai Indians
  • 2020: Mumbai Indians
  • 2021: Chennai Super Kings

As you can see, MI has won five of the past nine IPL titles. The Mumbai franchise has dominated the competition since clinching its first crown back in 2013, becoming the most successful IPL team of all time in the process.

As well as Bumrah, MI can call upon superstars such as Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard, and Suryakumar Yadav. You can get bet your bottom dollar that those guys will be eager to make amends for last season’s shortcomings.

You may think this is one of my boldest Indian Premier League predictions for 2022, but there is no reason why Mumbai can’t regain the trophy this year.
