Betting Preview for the Big 12 NCAAF Conference (2022)
There has been much news surrounding the Big 12. Oklahoma and Texas depart for the SEC following the 2024 season, while the Big 12 adds four teams for the 2023 season.
That’s big news, but it doesn’t impact their 2022 status. Everyone needs to set their focus on winning the 2022 Big 12 title. Oklahoma and Texas should be at the forefront of the battle.
How do the Big 12 college football odds view each team? Let’s start my betting preview with the top Big 12 betting sites for 2022.

Big 12 Title Odds for 2022
The Big 12 Conference odds have Oklahoma as the favorite. Oklahoma endured a tough offseason, but they made enough moves to claim the top spot ahead of the 2022 season.
Texas, Oklahoma State, and Baylor represent their biggest challengers. Texas has an intriguing battle at quarterback, with top recruit Quinn Ewers holding the edge. Still, their offense revolves around running back Bijon Robinson.
Which sleeper can battle the top contenders? Kansas State and TCU have the best odds, but Iowa State was a top-five team in 2021. West Virginia added quarterback J.T. Daniels to their offense.
Why Is Oklahoma the Big 12 Favorite?
It’s hard to understate Oklahoma’s dominance in the Big 12. Last year was the first time since 2014 they failed to win the championship. It won’t be easy reclaiming the top spot in 2022.
Oklahoma took a hit with Lincoln Riley going to USC. Then, it got worse when quarterback Caleb Williams and wide receiver Mario Williams transferred from Oklahoma to USC.
First, Oklahoma hired former defensive coordinator Brent Venables as head coach. That should help an Oklahoma defense that has been lackluster in the past few years. Then, Oklahoma landed quarterback Dillon Gabriel from UCF. Check out his 2020 numbers.
- 60.0 Completion Percentage
- 3,570 Passing Yards
- 32 Touchdowns
- 4 Interceptions
I didn’t examine his 2021 numbers because he suffered a collarbone injury after three games. He may not be as good as Williams, but he helps Oklahoma’s Big 12 NCAA football odds.
My favorite 2022 college football win totals have Oklahoma going over because of an improved defense. It’s no secret they lost talent on both sides, but Venables brought in multiple transfers.
Will it be enough to win the Big 12? That’s debatable, but the Big 12 college football odds give them the edge.
Top 2022 Big 12 Contenders
The uncertainty surrounding Oklahoma makes the Big 12 wide open for the 2022 season. Texas, Oklahoma State, and Baylor are their biggest challengers. Let’s discuss the two teams that can defeat Oklahoma.
Oklahoma State (+500)
Oklahoma State came inches from the 2021 Big 12 Championship and likely appearance in the CFP. Oklahoma State had a great season behind a dominant defense. Unfortunately, it won’t be the same in 2022.
Defensive coordinator Jim Knowles left Oklahoma State to assume the same role with Ohio State. Oklahoma State lost talent, but they still have a fearsome front four with Brock Martin and Collin Oliver.
We’ll need to see more from Oklahoma State’s offense if they want to replicate their 2021 season. They’ll rely on a big season from quarterback Spencer Sanders.
- 62.0 Completion Percentage
- 2,839 Passing Yards
- 20 Touchdowns
- 12 Interceptions
Sanders is a threat in the run game, recording 668 rushing yards and six touchdowns. He’ll need to cut down on interceptions if Oklahoma State wants to have a top-tier offense.
It certainly doesn’t help that their leading rusher and receiver went to the NFL. Sanders should have a solid season, but who will help him on offense? He should have more protection with a better offensive line.
Mike Gundy will have trouble replicating his 2021 season, but Oklahoma State’s defense should make them a top pick with best football betting apps.
Oklahoma State was the best chance for the Big 12 to make the 2021 CFP. Baylor made sure that wouldn’t happen, as a goal-line stand clinched their first Big 12 Championship since 2014. The Big 12 title odds give them a solid chance to repeat.
The offense is the biggest question mark for Baylor ahead of 2022. They had solid numbers last season but lost over 75 percent of their production, including wide receiver Tyquan Thornton.
Last season, Baylor boasted the best offensive line in college football. They look strong again, with tackle Connor Galvin and center Jacob Gall.

Will that be enough to keep their offense in the top half of the Big 12? They need to replace their top running back and wide receiver. Quarterback Blake Shapen should boost their passing game.
Baylor’s defense allowed the 10th fewest points per game last season. That unit should be strong again, with Siaki Ika and Dillon Doyle making the preseason All-Big 12 first-team.
Ultimately, Baylor needs every unit to show a slight improvement. They can’t have improved quarterback play, but everyone else remains on the same level. That’d go a long way toward improving their odds of winning the Big 12 Conference.
Top Sleeper Bets for the Big 12 Championship
The 2022 Big 12 Championship may be the most wide-open race in years. It only makes sense to take a chance on a sleeper. Check out my favorite value picks for the Big 12 title.
Kansas State (+1000)
Kansas State has gone seven straight years since finishing top 25 in the AP Poll. That streak may or may not continue, but Kansas State could be a tough team to beat in the Big 12.
Former Nebraska transfer Adrian Martinez takes over as the Kansas State quarterback. Martinez is a dual-threat quarterback, recording 2,301 rushing yards in four seasons at Nebraska. He’ll have to cut down on turnovers, though.
Running back, Deuce Vaughn should have another strong season. Bijon Robinson is the best running back in the Big 12, but Vaughn is a close second.

Martinez and Vaughn will be a dangerous duo for opposing defenses. Their impact alone helps Kansas State’s Big 12 Championship odds. It’ll help to be behind one of the top offensive linemen in Cooper Beebe.
Last season, Kansas State allowed 21.0 points per game. Many players are returning from that unit, giving them a strong chance for another good season. They’ll need to address their secondary.
Kansas State has the formula to compete for the Big 12 Championship. They have a pair of dangerous weapons on offense and respectable defense. My 2022 Big 12 season preview has them making a run.
Gary Patterson had a successful 22-year tenure with TCU, finishing top 10 in the AP Poll seven times. The 2022 season marks a new era, with former SMU head coach Sonny Dykes replacing Patterson.
TCU hasn’t made a Bowl Game in four years, but their odds to win the Big 12 Conference show they’ll be in contention. Do you believe they’ll make a run in Dykes’ first season?
Dykes has traditionally been an offensive-minded coach. We should see that on display, with TCU boasting a top-tier quarterback in Max Duggan. Take a look at his 2021 numbers.
- 63.9 Completion Percentage
- 2,048 Passing Yards
- 16 Touchdowns
- 6 Interceptions
Quentin Johnston should emerge as Duggan’s top target. An improved passing game would go a long way towards competing in the Big 12.
TCU’s defense was a big letdown in 2021. New defensive coordinator Joseph Gillespie returns key contributors, including cornerback Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson. He recorded 41 tackles, seven passes defended, and two interceptions in 2021.
TCU’s Big 12 Conference odds prove that we’ll see improvement in 2022. I believe we’ll see a strong offense, but can their defense do enough to win the Big 12?
Big 12 Conference 2022 Prop Bets
We didn’t have a chance to cover every Big 12 team. I don’t have high hopes for Texas Tech and West Virginia, as my prop bets have them going under 5.5 wins.
Joey McGuire takes over as head coach of Texas Tech. McGuire will have his hands full with a Texas Tech defense that has been awful over the last five years. They come into the 2022 season with question marks surrounding the quarterback position.
Texas Tech shouldn’t have an issue with a Week 1 matchup against Murray State. However, they have a tough slate before the Big 12 plays.
- Week 2: Houston
- Week 3: NC State
A road matchup against a strong NC State team will yield a loss. Houston is coming off a 12-2 season and should be a top 25 team. Texas Tech plays Oklahoma and Texas at home. Two losses mean they must win three road games to clear this projection.
West Virginia doesn’t have a new head coach, but they could be looking if Neal Brown has another down season. He’s 17-18 over his last three seasons as he looks to turn things around.
J.T. Daniels gives them a stable option at quarterback, but a questionable defense and tough schedule have West Virginia facing an uphill battle.

They’ll likely open 2-2, with losses to Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech. Then, they face a brutal home stretch that includes Oklahoma, Baylor, Kansas State, and TCU.
Perhaps they’ll steal one game. They could score a road victory over Iowa State and Texas Tech. They would need one more road win over Oklahoma State or Texas. The Big 12 NCAA football odds aren’t in their favor.
West Virginia should have a solid offense, but a weak defense has me taking the under on their win total.
Who Will Win the Big 12 Championship in 2022?
The Big 12 college football odds give four teams a solid chance to win the conference. Oklahoma’s roster turnover leaves them vulnerable compared to recent seasons.
I’ve been higher than most on Oklahoma throughout the offseason. I believe they’ll have a strong defense, with Dillon Gabriel leading the offense.
I wouldn’t blame you for taking a chance on a sleeper. The best college football betting sites give you great value for the Big 12 Championship.
